This a story of my first ever trip to Gran Canaria, Spain. Sometimes inspiration comes easily but it takes so much patience to create a piece!

Family portrait
Oil Paint on wooden board
Commission

You never know how strong you are until being strong is your only choice.
I meet my clients with a ‘Yes’ attitude. That means getting out of the comfort zone and respecting others needs and aspirations.

The last oil painting I was commissioned to make was in 2015. Oil dries slowly and it changes the whole approach to painting process for me.
This was a tough journey starting with choosing to paint on board instead of the usual stretched canvas. Lengthy wood prepping process hoping the paint will stick. I am grateful that I managed to complete this artwork and receive gratitude from the client.

I don’t know much about the people that I paint. And yet every portrait, every stroke is filled with imagination and interpretation of who they might be and who they might be to each other.
We don’t choose our family. It is a rather strange union where unconditional care for each other is almost expected. How interesting that people from the same genetic tree turn out to be so different.

Often this difference is so vast that we only realise that we are The Family when we come together.
I enjoy oil painting a lot. My art-inspiration grandfather Van Gogh would be proud that I in this digital age took time to work in this olden technique.

📜Title: At the End of the Day
👨‍🎨Artist: Maxfield Parrish (1870-1966)
🕰Year: 1941
🏛Location: Oil on panel, 38x33 cm

At the End of the Day is one of Maxfield Parrish's most beloved works, perfectly encapsulating his study of color saturation and lighting effects.

The scene depicts a winter evening: the twilight fades slowly, giving way to the night. A road cuts diagonally across the painting, leading the viewer toward a church with its steeple and a few houses glowing warmly from within. It captures that magical moment of transition between day and night, a theme that has fascinated many artists.

Two-thirds of the painting are dominated by the sky, which gradually shifts in color from greenish-blue near the horizon to deep blue higher up. A large bare tree branches out in three directions, occupying much of the composition, while additional trees, some bare and others evergreen, complete the landscape's ambiance.

There is something irresistibly enchanting about the atmosphere Parrish creates. His technique, characterized by multiple layers of pure color, elevates the scene beyond ordinary reality, immersing us in a world of magic.

Before focusing exclusively on landscapes, Parrish achieved great success illustrating fairy tale books. Stripped of human presence, his landscapes retained, or perhaps even amplified, a sense of enchantment that invites the viewer to dream.

In 1936, at the age of 64, Parrish entered a new phase of his career. He began collaborating with Brown & Bigelow, initially producing one landscape per year, then two, for calendars and greeting cards. The collaboration was so successful that it lasted an impressive 27 years. If that’s not magic, what is?

Sakura

Acrylic on canvas
Cherry blossom comes alive so magically and disappears in a blink of an eye. A blooming beauty is worth capturing in all it’s femininity and detail.

The photo of this beauty was taken in Rugby Caldecott Park on a chilly but sunny morning and painted in the beginning of autumn.

Painting babies is quite difficult. Even tough they are by all means personalities of their own, the facial features are hard to capture.
This little one has somehow recognized itself though. I guess it's a win then. 🤩
