The Style team are sad to hear of the passing of Rochdale’s singing jeweller, John Swinden.

John was a true ambassador for his local community, raising thousands of pounds each year for worthwhile charities, particularly Springhill Hospice, East Lancashire Masonic Charity, Dementia UK and Rochdale Children's Moorland Home. He was named Rochdale Man of the Year in 2017 in recognition of his remarkable and relentless fundraising efforts.

John was also a huge supporter of the Save Samantha Appeal. Since the sad news of John’s death on 3rd April, there have been outpourings of love and support for his family, along with hundreds of fond memories posted on social media. Samantha Smith commented that John has been “a saviour, a friend, an entertainer and a true blessing to know”.

John became something of a social media sensation, often entertaining his followers and raising a smile by posting videos of himself singing in his garden, outside his shop J&D Alexander on The Walk, or around Rochdale.

Rest in peace John. Rochdale has lost a diamond.
