Behind the Scenes at Mogwai Media

It's a Saturday.. but also its a bit grey and wet outside so, today, we’ve been knee-deep in admin magic!

We’ve been diligently backing up backups, organising files into the cloud with clear, easy-to-find names (goodbye “untitled file”!) and ensuring that every piece of data is in its rightful place. ☁️

Why all this hustle, you ask? Because a solid backup strategy is crucial! It ensures your precious files are safe from unexpected crashes and can be swiftly retrieved when needed.
So, if you've been thinking about backing up your photos onto a hard drive, or saving precious moments onto the cloud .. this is your sign

Absolutely, it seems like a tedious task (hello, endless files with quick saved names) and I know there are 564 things you would rather be doing .. like washing the microwave or hoovering the bath.. But trust us, an organised admin day is the backbone of smooth operations and a good nights sleep.
Let’s not forget—copious amounts of coffee help keep us going through those “just one more file” moments! (and you all know how the mogwais feel about their coffee)

So here’s a shoutout to all you unsung heroes completing admin work: keep backing up, keep organising, and remember, your future self will thank you.

"When it comes to astrophotography, it's a blend of being out under the stars with a camera and a whole lot of internally chanting the 'please don’t rain, please don’t rain...' mantra. This, while of course obsessively checking the weather forecast and invoking the Gods of the night sky.

Just two hours before these shots, the sky was laden with white fluffy and occasional dark (yet still fluffy) clouds. Mogwai Dave had Cambrian Mountain Dafydd on speed dial, providing regular updates from the heart of the Elan Valley on any slight changes in the weather. It became a close contest between him and the dogs as to who spent more time staring out the window that day (no post arrived, so Dave might have edged out the dogs).

At 6:30 pm, a plan was set. Dafydd and Dave would rendezvous after dark at Caban Coch to see what the night had in store.

Equipped with bobble hats, waterproofs, camera bags, tripods, and snoods (to fend off the ever-present biting midges), they were ready for action.

The ascent up the hill allowed the clouds to part, unveiling a breathtaking night sky filled with stars, meteorites, the Milky Way, and even the International Space Station.

It was an extraordinary evening that reignited a cosmic wanderlust, almost making us forgive this summer’s impersonation of a very .. very ..damp squib.
As the days shorten and the nights deepen, the universe teases us with more opportunities for starlit magic and a bit of celestial mischief…and we for one just cannot wait .

As Carl Sagan put it, "The cosmos is within us. We are made of star-stuff." So, by day, we're snapping portraits, but come nightfall, we're capturing the people and memories of the past and future—all while dodging midges and praying to the weather gods to “please don’t rain.. please don’t rain..”

New Aquatic and Amphibian Life Board at Llandrindod Wells Lakeside.

We are thrilled to see the installation of the new educational board at the lakeside in Llandrindod Wells. In partnership with Countryside Services, we designed this board to highlight the rich diversity of aquatic and amphibian life in our local environment.

Visitors can now enjoy detailed information and illustrations of the various species that inhabit the lake and surrounding areas. This initiative aims to enhance the educational experience for all visitors, promoting awareness and appreciation of our natural heritage.

The aquatic life that lives in Llandrindod Lake is featured on this new information panel on the recently installed boardwalk platform near the bird hide. Add interest to your stroll around the lake by taking a look at the new Aquatic Life sign and Birds information panel in the hide.

Well that was a busy weekend .. the astrophotographer of Mogwai went away for the weekend to take part in his first Spartan race of the year (which he absolutely smashed ) and so, the non astrophotographer was left with the northern lights, a very dark sky and a wing and a prayer …

Devastatingly sad news today.
An outstanding photographer a truly inspirational person and a really nice guy.

It is with deep sadness that we share the news that our fellow astronomer and incredibly talented astrophotographer, Alyn Wallace, has passed away.

Alyn was amongst the very best astrophotographers in the world, his work enthused and inspired countless others.

We pass our deepest condolences to Alyn’s family, friends and associates. The astronomy community has lost one of its brightest stars.
