“Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is likely a key part of the short-term solution for reducing the aerospace industry’s carbon footprint. However, there are significant challenges, particularly in the production bottleneck and the infrastructure needed on the ground to store and supply SAF to aircraft,” Stephane Lagut, EY Global Advanced Manufacturing & Mobility Assurance Leader and EY Global Aerospace & Defense Sector Leader, stated.

“While the vast majority of current aircraft engines can accommodate SAF, its actual utilisation remains very low—less than 1 percent, if we check the numbers."

60 Seconds With … Sebastian Cosgrove, Director of Global Customer Service at Air Canada Cargo ⚡

1️⃣What quote has most resonated with you?

Doubt can motivate you, so don’t be afraid of it. Confidence and doubt are at two ends of the scale, and you need both. They balance each other out. – Barbra Streisand.

2️⃣What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Don’t be afraid to ask questions. I pass this advice on to all new employees that it’s better to ask than to guess a response.

3️⃣What’s something we wouldn’t know about you from your CV?

I rode a dragon boat on a Japanese team weekly during the summer months in Toronto.

4️⃣What hobby have you always wanted to try but never got around to?

I tend to switch hobbies frequently once I get bored of something. One that I’ve been interested in but haven’t tried yet is adult Lego-building (it’s a thing but a very expensive hobby) as well as adult camping.

5️⃣If you have not pursued a career in airfreight, what other field would you have liked to go into?

I’m a certified French teacher by trade; however, I knew early on that I didn’t want to formally teach. If I hadn’t gotten in airfreight, I would have enjoyed Marketing or HR.

Throughout the journey DHL Express provided Chocolat with VIP service, transporting her in a custom-built crate supported by a team of specialist keepers, aircraft engineers, cargo handlers, security personnel, and pilots. Throughout the trip Chocolat snacked on fresh fruit, nuts and sweet potato.

Her journey, which was carefully planned to reduce the amount of time she spent in transit, began at Nairobi Airport on August 15th, included a brief stop in Bahrain, and concluded with a seven-hour flight to East Midlands Airport, where she arrived on the morning of August 16th. From there, she was transported by road to her new home at Monkey World.

There were border closures which affected both the movement of people without proper visas and the transport of goods. However, trucking routes have reopened, alleviating the backlog that had accumulated.

The port of Chittagong had also faced closures, causing significant congestion and delays in container handling. Reports indicated high utilisation, making it difficult to efficiently unload arriving ships. This congestion has led to a backlog of vessels waiting to dock, with reports suggesting around 50 vessels were affected as of last week. These issues are expected to improve as labour availability stabilises and operations normalise.

“There has been considerable speculation about the potential impact on Bangladesh’s exports, particularly in the garment industry,” Judah Levin, Head of Research at Freightos, explained.

60 Seconds With … Elfi Chik, General Manager of Sales North Asia at Jettainer

1️⃣What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

I tend to think back, ahead and a lot. If I allow myself to just dwell on these thoughts, I would fail to take action when I should and miss out on opportunities when they present themselves. Therefore, the best piece of advice for me is “be ready and live in the moment”.

2️⃣What’s something we wouldn’t know about you from your CV?

"My surname “Chik” means planting and is one of the rarest surnames in China. According to an online article in relation to the Chinese dictionary of surnames, people surnamed “Chik” constitute 0.05 percent of the national population".

3️⃣What is the most adventurous thing you have ever done?

It took me some time to decide whether it should be visiting the Mount Everest Base Camp in Tibet, China or travelling solo to Iceland for nine days. I think the latter deserves the crown because it meant a lot to be able to believe in myself, run ten kilometres at the annual Reykjavik Marathon and experience the whole process on my own.
