Two compact Serage IP cameras fitted today for security, covering the exterior access points and a very compact internal wide angle camera covering both rear BiFold glazed entrances to the property. The two external cameras offer full colour at night and will zero in on pedestrians and faces. Needless to say the customers love having the ability to check their property when out and about.

Have had many calls from people losing their Freeview TV channels for periods of time, but in most cases their signal will return and I have advised them not to retune the TV and to just wait for it to return. See below a link to the video explaining why this happens.

Television signals can be affected by high pressure atmospheric conditions, which generally brings fine weather or morning fog. This may result in temporary pixilation which will pass once the weather conditions change. Matt Taylor from BBC weather explains why.

Seems this atmosperic issue is widespread throughout the Midlands and South of England. So hopefully it should be back to normal in a few days. We stress not to retune your TV.

Looks like were having some real Freeview reception issues at the moment in certain locations especially on the coast due to very high pressure signals from the main Rowridge transmitting station on the Isle of white is causing issues with the main transmitter at Stockland Hill so please do not re tune your TV sets until this weather clears and your signals should be back to normal soon.

Information on current TV reception issues from a colleague's website, these should disappear after this coming weekend.

We're getting lots of enquiries about poor freeview reception over the last few days. The cause is atmospheric high pressure tropospheric ducting.

Reception should be back to normal after this weekend.

Today's installation of a Starlink dish in South Oxfordshire, nice unobtrusive cable run and excellent internet speeds. Customer had ordered a longer cable, as the standard would not have been long enough.

Italian channel changes on Hotbird 13 East, many customers have found that they are unable to watch their favourite Italian channels since the new year.

This is because they have ceased broadcasting the free to air "mainstream" channels in standard definition and the only remaining free to air versions are of Rai1, Rai 2 and Rai 3 in High Definition.

You can update your old standard definition receiver to an HD version to receive these, or obtain a Tivisat receiver and card. These can be bought at a premium in the UK, but many ask an italian resident relative to obtain one for them at a more reasonable price.

This Month, 30th of June sees the switching off of COM7 multiplex on Freeview, the frequency will now be used for 5G mobile.

Affected channels are as in the image below. Most channels on the affected multiplex will disappear completely for at least the short term, but probably altogether.

As of 22nd of June, some TVs and Freeview PVR boxes will have flashed up a message saying a retune of the TV is required as the Channel Map has changed. It is due to several channels being removed, a few HD and +1 channels. This is due to the government allocating further space to 5G communications.

Covid 19 and Service Calls

During this crisis we are all naturally concerned about exposure to the virus and the possibility of spreading it. As a responsible tradesman I will not put my customers, myself, or my close family at risk by ignoring social distancing protocols.

I will be carrying out service calls after making a risk assessment, taking into account health and safety.

If someone in your household is exhibiting symptoms, or a family member is particularly at risk, then of course I will be unable to carry out any work which involves entering the property, unless that person can be isolated from the working area.

For anyone receiving their TV from Hannington Transmitter (Meridian and Southern), there is the possibility of weak signal whilst engineering work is carried out. This may in some areas, cause periodic breakup (pixellation), or occasional loss of picture or sound.

Freeview interference and signal dropout today.

Received many calls today, as did my installer coontacts, reference Freeview not working, or breaking up badly.

There have been exceptional atmospheric conditions affecting the South East, which hopefully will lessen over the next couple of days. If you've had this problem, don't retune, if you sit it out, good reception will return.

Sky UK will be overhauling the structure of the epg system on March 1st 2018.

The main changes will be that the PSB channels on 101 to 105 will be forced to carry the HD version where it exists and the various +1 services will be moved to their own section of the epg. Also the documentaries section is to be abolished with the channels integrated into entertainment.

Digital UK | 700MHz clearance

Coming to our area early 2018. This may involve the fitting of a masthead or set back filter, even if you've already had one fitted to remedy 4G interference from the recent 800Mhz clearance. If you receive your signal from Crystal Palace (London Region), you'll probably not experience problems, but if your signal comes from Hannington between Basingstoke and Newbury, there is potential for renewed interference.

Yesterday's installation of an 88cm dish for reception of Astra 4.8 degrees East (Ukranian channels) and Eutelsat Hotbird 13 East (Russian channels). Tucked away in roof gully, fixed on a non-penetrating mount with two x 2 way DiSEqC switches to feed two receivers.

A couple of good examples of why we don't bolt brackets onto chimneys, but use corner brackets with lashing kits. Also you certainly don't fix into mortar joints.
