Death of our colleague PC Andrew Harper has been confirmed by Thames Valley Police.

This is totally devastating news. All our thoughts - and the thoughts of the entire police family across the UK - are with the family, friends and close colleagues of PC Harper who died last night.

Police officers go to work each and every day to do their duty. We are courageous, caring and compassionate. We confront danger on a daily basis. We know there is a risk when we put on the uniform but we do so as we are proud to protect the public.

Sadly on very rare and horrendous occasions a colleague makes the ultimate sacrifice. We will ensure that heroism is never forgotten.

We are offering our full support to the officer’s family and colleagues at this simply awful time.

Each year the St. George’s Day Club presents the ‘True Englishman’ Award to a very deserving individual, and today was no exception. The award went to Tony Foulds, a kind hearted gentlemen, who for decades has tended to a memorial dedicated to the 10 man crew of a B17 Flying Fortress. The aircraft crashed in Encliffe Park, Sheffield in 1944 with no survivors, and Tony (as a boy) witnessed the incident.

Over several years I have had the pleasure of working with George, a photographer with A Mobile Studios based in Billericay on many occasions. I was thrilled when George and his fiancé Sophie invited me to be their Toastmaster for their Wedding on the 2nd September at Essendon Golf & Country Club. They had a wonderful day captured by Mark & Rachel of Expression Photography and Ride Out Videography. Great to be with you. Last Thursday had the pleasure of attending the Worshipful Co. Of Constructors' Charity Dinner held at the iconic Cutty Sark.
The culmination of detailed planning over many months the Dinner was a great success raising considerable funds. Although their Beadle I was attending as a Toastmaster.

Last Saturday I had the very special pleasure of attending a lovely Wedding in Mechelen, nr Brussels. It was for the son and fiance of a good friend from my days in the International Moving industry - Eddy Bonne. Michael & Marianne were married in Church followed by a spectacular Dinner for 250 people held in the grounds of a local Castle/Manor House. A wonderful day. Thanks for inviting me over Eddy. Great to be with you, Katty, Marie-Rose, Roger, Els & Jan and, of course, the happy couple!

Over the past few weeks have attended several Weddings with a few being at Ye Olde Plough House, Bulphan. On the 27th July I had the great pleasure of being the Toastmaster for Chloe & Jack. A brilliant day enjoyed by everyone there. I met them at one of Ye Olde Plough House's Open Day and Chloe's Dad was kind enough to book. Many congratulations to Chloe & Jack.
Shortly after the Wedding I was delighted to receive the following e mail from her Dad.

'Hello Ted
Now the dust has settled and my head has stopped banging I'm just
taking a few minutes to say thank you for your work at Chloe and Jacks
wedding yesterday. I had a feeling you were going to be worth your
weight when we first met and that's exactly what happened. The weather
was a very tricky thing to deal with and without your participation I
suspect things would have got quite chaotic. In fact it would have
probably been chaotic without the weather problem so well done and
thank you again.

Everybody said how good you were and as the person who instigated hiring
you I soaked up the reflected glory - and why not, I'll take all the
luck I can get!

Many congratulations to Victoria & Grant who celebrated their marriage at Five Lakes, Crowne Plaza Hotel, near. Maldon yesterday. They chose the 19th May as Grant's Grandparents were married that day 66 years ago.Grant presented them with a bouquet and a special bottle of whisky. Best Men's speech was a little different from usual and though I have seen it done before - but not for a long time - it was a This is Your Life! Very good. Thank you for allowing me to share your day.
