Yesterday we had the opportunity to meet with Denis Bradley from Northlands Addiction and Treatment Centre who gave Derry City & Strabane Area Commander Chief Superintendent Nigel Goddard and Assistant Chief Constable Bobby Singleton a valuable insight into the impact of addiction in our community. We talked about what we, as a Police Service, can do to prevent people becoming involved in illegal drug use, and build better and safer communities.

Well, that was different. Thanks to the enthusiastic and remarkable staff from the SeaMonitor project - supported by the SEUPB - who took part in our first online communications workshop. It was certainly challenging and hopefully rewarding.

'Face-to-face,' 'body language', 'eye contact'? We're going to have to reassess how we communicate and reexamine the way we communicate in 'the new normal'. It's going to be difficult; it's going to be challenging; Leapfrog is here to help.

Mehrabian's theory suggests 7% of communication consists of the words we use, 38% is down to tone and a whopping 55% consists of body language. Of course, sometimes 55% is a gross underestimation.

Yappy New Year from Leapfrog Communications. Remember, it's good to talk.

16/12/2019

Communication emerged as a decisive factor in the 2019 General Election. Those with clear, simple, accessible were successful, while those with unclear or confused messages struggled. As President Ronald Reagan said: "If you're explaining, you're losing."

And now for some good news! In the midst of all this winter chill, it was great to be part of an uplifting and heart-warming event at the beautiful Bishop's Gate Hotel Derry, celebrating the North West’s many Peace IV Programme peacebuilding projects. Thanks to Sue Divin and Special EU Programmes Body - SEUPB for inviting Leapfrog Communication to join you, and thanks to all who participated so eagerly.
Hopefully our training session will encourage and help these groups to promote their great work — increasing understanding and building better relationships throughout our community.

Why do Northern Ireland people find it so hard to recognise their achievements, and use them to their advantage?
Leapfrog is delighted to have spent the past two days working with some remarkable and inspirational men and women - helping them with job interview skills and encouraging them to believe in how much they have to offer. Thank you to James and Darren from the Sollus Centre Bready. 02871 841892 and to the Peace Impact Programme, backed by The International Fund for Ireland, for supporting our training. Thank you too to the The Everglades Hotel for looking after us all so well.

What a privilege to be invited to chair a Q&A with the Dalai Lama as part of the Children in Crossfire ’s 20th anniversary celebrations. Compassion in action was the main focus of his message to the Millennium Forum Theatre & Conference Centre audience, but gender equality was among the other issues he addressed. Thank you to CIC Director Richard Moore for giving me the opportunity to meet this engaging and truly inspirational figure.

A little bit of history's created in Letterkenny as Shaun Doherty steps down after 27 years presenting on Highland Radio. The popular broadcaster helped make Highland Ireland's favourite local radio station.

They were all scarily quiet to start with but by the end of our session at St Columbs Park House, these students were entertaining us all with their presentations on 'How we would improve the future for the young people of Derry/Londonderry'.
Thank you to Leanne, Aoife, Chris, Lauren, Chloe and Leah from St Mary's College, St Cecilia's College and Lisneal College for all your hard work. Hope you enjoyed our Presentation Skills Training and will find it useful in your futures. Best of luck.

That was some week! We had the opportunity to work with some amazing and inspirational people and to learn from them, as well as to share our own skills. From Coleraine to Belfast to Derry to Craigavon to Magherafelt - we got around. Thanks to Aware NI , the Education Service of Northern Ireland Assembly , Lismore Comprehensive School, Sperrin Cultural Awareness Association and Women Aloud NI of course (although that was pleasure rather than work) - for welcoming us throughout a busy week. 'Feet up' time now, for today anyway.

01/01/2016

Happy New Year to all who've worked with Leapfrog Communications - and all who've yet to have the pleasure. Wishing you all peace and prosperity.

If the wisdom, learning, experience and hope which we witnessed at this conference could be bottled and shared across the world, it would be a better place. Congratulations to Garden of Reflection for organising an inspirational event.

Spent an amazingly busy day with a lot of 'ordinary' women who all proved to be exceptional in their own ways.
We ensconced ourselves in the Hive Studio at the Rath Mor Centre, and recorded three half-hour online broadcasts for the 'Unheard Voices' programme - talking about women as agents for change, the role of women in healing & reconciliation after the Troubles, and the importance of university expansion for this generation of young people.
Details of when the broadcast are available to follow...Thanks to ALL who participated.

Some big political names warming the bench in today's big contest at Ballymena Showgrounds, refereed by Paul McFadden.
Among those waiting to take the field for the Stormont Select were the DUP's flying right-winger, Paul Frew; the SDLP's tenacious tackler John Dallat; the UUP's midfield general Robin Swann; the TUV's uncompromising defender, Jim Allister; and the prolific Sinn Fein striker Daithi McKay.
The politicians were up against some of their toughest opponents yet -- students from Carrickfergus College; Cullybackey High School; Downshire School; St Louis' Grammar School; St Mary's Limavady; and St Patrick's College.
The Showgrounds showdown was organised by the Northern Ireland Assembly's Education Service
An exciting score draw.

Living in a divided society, protecting minorities and dealing with diversity were all on the agenda yesterday when we travelled to Dublin to work with Dundrum Further Education College.
Staff invited us in to talk to Intercultural Studies / Communications students about my book 'Belfast Days' and the importance of communication.
It was gratifying and encouraging to witness the students' enthusiasm for learning from the mistakes of the past.

Honoured to have been given the opportunity to interview the Chair of Insightful Learning, Laila Atshan, for today's Lunchtime Event at Derry's Garden of Reflection. A warm, engaging and truly inspirational woman. And it wasn't all work either - enjoyed a great night's craic - and beautiful food - with Laila and others at the Cedar Lebanese Restaurant. Thanks to all.

No chance of us in Leapfrog having time to think about Christmas shopping or Black Friday (thank goodness)! We just finished work today on a big project with a great organisation, Citizens Advice Northern Ireland - but not before we'd facilitated a Let's Talk event at a very foggy Stormont yesterday.
A panel of politicians were quizzed by lively, argumentative and well-informed students from Methodist, St Malachy's, Strathearn and Victoria Colleges (Belfast). Subjects included: Why's the political class out of touch with social attitudes? Wouldn't Stormont be more effective if we had an Opposition? Should the number of MLAs be cut?
BUT - the most heated exchanges were around the question, Why aren't there more women in NI politics?
Great craic all round - but informative too. Thanks for having us.

Students attending today's launch were urged to 'learn to plan and learn to choose' when making decisions about their subject and career choices. We hope they and their teachers will view the 4 films which Leapfrog Communications have produced and see some of the exciting Science and Technology opportunities available in the North West.

A briliant organisation. We're lucky to have it in Derry. Best wishes.

At last! The S.T.E.A.M. Careers Film we produced for the Foyle Learning Community was launched today at St Columb's College. Thanks to the 14 local companies which feature in the films - and especially to E & I Engineering and Seagate for supporting the project.
