Police have found the body of a woman while searching for a missing 73-year-old.

The body was found in the Alver Valley area of Gosport today. A missing persons appeal was launched to find Marcia Mitchell from Lee-on-the-Solent after she initially disappeared on Sunday evening at 9.30pm (September 1).

She was last seen on CCTV in Headley Close yesterday morning (September 2).

The identity has yet to be verified, though Marcia’s family have been informed. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said: “Officers searching for missing 73-year-old Marcia Mitchell from Lee-on-the-Solent have sadly discovered the body of a woman in the Alver Valley area.

“Formal identification has not yet taken place, but Marcia’s family have been informed and are being supported by police. Officers will now prepare a file for the coroner.“We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who shared our appeals. Our thoughts are with her family.”

Police are appealing for information to help find missing woman Marcia Mitchell.

The 73-year-old from Lee-on-the-Solent has not been seen since about 9.30pm last night (1 September) at her home address.

Marcia is described as white, about 5ft tall, with short white hair in a bob, slim build, possibly wearing white trousers and white trainers.

Officers investigating a road traffic collision within the Portsmouth area are appealing for witnesses.

Emergency services were called at 10.55am on Friday 23 August, following a collision involving a White Nissan Primastar van and a red and cream Lambretta motorcycle on the A27 westbound off-slip for Portsbridge roundabout, Hilsea.

Police have cleared and reopened the road in both directions following the earlier fatal collision, it's reported that a male in his 60s was struck in the collision but the circumstances around it are still being investigated.
