Sharing a few images taken from our Risograph print workshop yesterday in the studio… 6 creatives, using both collage and drawn elements to make 2 colour designs, duplicated on the RISOGRAPH. As always, so much variety, it’s lovely to see how differently we all work. Well done gang, you made some beautiful prints, I can’t wait to see what you make next! 💚

Risograph Print workshops start NEXT weekend!

Saturday 18th January (10am - 1pm)

Create a set of limited edition, 2 colour Risograph prints using collage, drawing or photography.

A 3hr workshop to discover this unique and quirky print process which offers endless self publishing opportunities.

Suitable for artists and designers who have worked with Riso before and looking to self publish their own limited edition prints or books as well as those who are discovering it for the first time and simply wanting to explore a new way of using their mark making, collage and drawing techniques.

Each participant will create a unique set of 10 x A3 Riso prints, in the colour combination of their choice. Bring prepared artwork (in B&w) or create something on the day using collage elements in the studio.

Print Club marked the start of the year today and we made handstitched sketchbooks!

Following on from a past club session when we covered books in vintage fabrics… this time we attempted a more advanced project with books containing several sections and visible hand stitching. We love that our books can be laid flat for sketching, as well as that we could add in envelopes for stashing found objects.
Thanks to all that came today, braving the cold weather and engaging in the project - it was great to catch up after the holidays too!

The next monthly Print club is on Saturday 1st February, more info can be found on the website with how to sign up to the membership as well as drop in options too.

Thanks to everyone that visited us at the Xmas Market .cornwall this weekend, it was lovely to meet some new people, catch up with friends and share the Riso love 💚
Really excited to showcase our new line of sketchbooks and notecards developed from studio experiments … I’ll post some separate images of these next week.
We aren’t trading at any other fairs this year but if you are interested in any of our handmade sketchbooks, greeting cards, zines or stationery drop in to the studio Mon - Fri (10-2) or DM us and we can supply you with some handy Xmas pressies.
Thanks to the ecopark for such a fun weekend, the lantern parade was so special and all weekend the music was top draw! 🙌🏼

This months print club was all about Suminagashi! We made lots of small prints using acrylic ink floated on top of trays of water, experimenting with different papers and coloured inks. We all got in the zone with this mindful technique of rhythmically dipping alternate brushes onto the water to create natural patterns and spontaneous designs.

I was particularly impressed with the subtle colour combinations achieved on the eco natural papers, plus Chez’s amazing flower design!

Looking forward to using some of these prints in collage projects and also trying out more fabric next time … lots of ideas!

Thanks to the members who came to this session and shared their skills, working as a group is ACE!

Next month we are taking a break as Christmas fairs take over for most of us, see you all on Saturday 4th January (2-5pm). 💚

There are still a couple of places available on our Introduction to Risograph workshop THIS Saturday .
A Risograph printmaking workshop to create your own 2 colour, limited edition A3 prints.

Saturday 19th October 10:00am 1:00pm

During the workshop, we will introduce you to this creative and eco friendly print process, check out printed examples, ink and paper options and learn how to use the Risograph printer. We will create original collages or drawings which will be directly scanned onto the printer for duplication into an edition of 10 x A3 artist prints.

This 3hr workshop offers the perfect introduction to RISO, enabling you to understand this unique and quirky print process with endless self-publishing possibilities. Suitable for artists, designers and photographers interested in producing their own artist prints, zines or publications - or those simply wanting to explore mark making and drawing techniques along with collage and photography - RISO offers plenty of scope for individual creativity.

We have a space becoming available in the studio from 1st November.

A light filled desk space, plus optional bookable use of the communal workshop area for meetings or to run your own workshops.

£45pw includes desk, WIFI, kitchenette, toilet, electric and heating in the winter months.

Roots Press is one of several small businesses working in a large rammed earth workshop .cornwall Porthtowan. We offer a RISO print and design service, bookbinding and run regular print workshops as well as a monthly print club.

Plenty of things to get involved in on site including community events and live music, , campsite and growing projects.

Another great Print Club session, trying our luck on a rainy day with Cyanotype! We got stuck in and learned a lot about exposure times through trial and error - it was great, as always to see how differently we all approached the task with so much creativity in the room!
Thanks to for letting us use her UV lamp (couldn’t have done without!) Josie offers Cyanotype workshops both in the Roots Press studio and beyond, If anyone would like to learn this process from the expert. Thanks to all the artists who came, it was a very inspiring session - lots of ideas forming for mixing cyanotype with RISO, can’t wait to do some more!

The next print club session is on Saturday 2nd November, will let you know which technique we will be exploring in the week before.

If you’d like to join print club, you can sign up for a six month membership plus we are starting a pay per session option for those who want to dip in and out when they can.

Great to have a few new faces this weekend, plenty of room for more next time!

Join us this Sunday .cornwall for some comic book badge making in the Atrium between 1:30 - 3pm.

Choose a character from our vintage comics or draw your own and hand punch it into a mini pin badge for your dungarees or bag. All welcome, lots of things happening over the weekend as we celebrate the Eco Parks 21st Anniversary!!
Angelheart theatre will be performing their latest puppet theatre show in the barn starting 3pm on Sunday - suitable for all :) Tickets through the .cornwall website.

At Print Club today and I found inspiration sketching in the allotments and made a Riso printed zine to welcome the harvest and celebrate the coming equinox.

PRINT CLUB meets on the first Saturday of every month. It is a creative space to experiment with a huge variety of different print techniques. Each print club session has a broad theme and process to get us started, one you may or may not have tried before. Our aim is that, through a few hours of creative play and shared experience, we will each discover a new thread to follow in our own practice, or at least enjoy a bit of time with likeminded folk! 💚

Already a member? No need to book, members simply turn up to a session when they can. Get in touch if you’d like to share an idea or technique to the group, we can make it happen!

Wonderful Wet Cyanotype workshop in the Roots Press studio today led by .

We learned about the history of Cyanotype before experimenting with the process using a range of plant materials, printed elements as well as lots of reactive additions such as turmeric, blackberries, salt, bubbles and pigments.

Josie has so much experience in this field, encouraging you to experiment, to value the beauty of each individual print and to enjoy the surprising results!

There’s a lot to explore here, we will definitely be trying to combine cyanotype and Riso printing in the future, watch this space!

We had a magical time , running the print your own merch tent last week, what a wonderful festival! Everyone really got into the idea of avoiding buying new and brought along their well loved clothes to customise with block prints or screenprint with the festival logo. Massive thanks to Jill for hand carving the stamps, to for his expert screen printing advice and of course the brilliant printing team who made it such a success - Can’t wait to do this again very soon!

What a way to spend a Saturday! This week at Print Club we experimented with woodcut printing. We learned a lot and the results are amazing! That's what Print Club is all about, coming together, sharing skills and getting creative.

We will experiment with different shapes of timber, scorching the wood first and then printing straight from the blocks to hopefully create some beautiful natural patterns.

Just a few of our mono prints from Saturdays print club session, thanks to for bringing the tools and techniques. We all found this to be a useful exercise for quickly sketching out two colour designs… lots of potential! .medine printed some of her fab birds, but I didn’t managed to get a photo (check them out on her profile)…. Another great afternoon, See you all next time !
