Kris Barras Band 'Secrets' is out NOW!

I had a lot of fun with the ambient guitar parts and synthesis in this track. I love playing around with those glassy-strat tones (check out the verses). It was an incredible vocal performance from Kris. This track set the bar for vocal delivery throughout the rest of the record. It was actually the first vocal we recorded for the album and one of the few that were recorded at Vada Recording Studios. The rest of the vocals, some solos, synths, sound-design and general post-production were completed at Momentum Studios.

Whilst mixing this tune, I had in my mind that I wanted the chorus and post-choruses to feel anthemic, super punchy but almost orchestral sounding without it being obviously orchestral. I used some interesting synth patches from Native Instruments 'Massive' synth engine along with some sound-design based in Output's 'Arcade' plugin to try and achieve this. I also have a basic Hammond organ patch marking the chords in the chorus which is super low in the mix, but adds a great texture. You can barely hear it but it's one of those sounds that you really miss if it's removed.

One of the plugins I've used extensively throughout the record is the NI 'Raum' reverb plugin. It helps create these massive, trance-esque spaces by using interesting modulations like chorusing and general movement on the tail of the reverbs. It's one that I used a fair amount on this tune.
