๐Ÿ›’ New Convenience store opens at Sherford.

A new convenience shop has opened at Sherford; run by the same resident that is behind the townโ€™s award-winning coffee shop. A welcome addition to the growing town, it provides an essential service for residents, as well those living, working or visiting Sherford.

Sherford Convenience Store is a temporary facility to give the community easy access to day-to-day essentials and fresh produce. Created from a modular unit, it has been fully fitted out with shop facilities, including fridges and a till point. Plans are also in progress for the permanent โ€˜local centreโ€™ that surrounds it, with plans expected to be submitted in the coming months.

The building has been provided by the Sherford Consortium โ€“ a partnership between Taylor Wimpey and Vistry Group, which includes Linden Homes, Bovis Homes* and Countryside Partnerships, responsible for the creation of Sherford. The new shop can be found right at the heart of the community; next door to Sherford Vale school, Sherford Community Hub, and House of Brews.

The shop opened its doors on Monday 28th October, following a short โ€˜soft launchโ€™ period for local residents. It will open six days a week (excluding Sunday). Its opening hours will be Monday 2pm to 6pm; Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 8:30am to 11am - 2:30pm to 6pm; Thursday 8:30am to 10am - 3pm to 6pm; and Saturday 9am to 2:30pm.

Sherford Convenience Store will be run by Sherford resident, Joanne Hilton, who also operates the award-winning Sherford coffee shop, House of Brews that opened in 2021. It quickly earned a reputation for quality local produce, use of local suppliers, and outstanding customer service. Having already built a thriving business within the community, and eager to expand the offering, Joanne and her team hope to continue their success with the new shop.

Richard Harrison from Taylor Wimpey, part of the Sherford Consortium said: โ€œA shop has always been one of the most requested amenities at Sherford, and it fantastic to provide a solution ahead of the local centre being developed. We have no doubt that this is a welcome and useful addition to the community. Joanne has already built a successful business at Sherford and we look forward to seeing the same ethos carrying over into the new shop.โ€

Joanne Hilton, Sherford Convenience Storeโ€™s operator, added: โ€œSherford is our home and we are thrilled to be opening another much-needed business here. Running the coffee shop for the last three years has put in us at the heart of this growing community and we know how keen everyone has been to have a shop. The ability to pop to a local shop and grab essentials is helpful for so many people. Sherford is growing - we now have a convenience store, coffee shop, community centre and school all right next door to one another - and we are glad to be a part of it.โ€

Match Report: Plymouth Albion RFC 16-21 Rams โ€“ 26th Oct 2024 ๐Ÿ‰

Plymouth Albion were handed their second defeat in two games at the hands of unbeaten Rams leaving them with four wins and four losses from their opening eight matches in the league.

Despite the scoreboard, Albion can hold their heads high after they pushed Rams right to the end and almost squeezed out a victory in the dying embers of the match, in what was a great game to watch for the neutrals. Head coach Ryan Lamb was full of praise for how his side attacked the game.

โ€œThe boys put in a massive shift, we spoke about it during the week, keeping in the fight and we did that really well today but didnโ€™t get the reward. I felt a few big decisions went against us in key areas of the field, but Iโ€™m not going to get into the boys because they put in a massive shift and deserved more from it.

โ€œThree penalties from five yards away and then you get held up over the line on the last play of the game so itโ€™s frustrating, but fair play to Rams, they did what they do, they stick to it and it works for them, but Iโ€™m gutted for my boys because I think they deserved a lot more from thatโ€

โ€œWeโ€™ve got a week off next week, the boys have had a tough block of eight games to start the season in what is a very tough league, so weโ€™ll rest up and come back refreshed in a couple of weeksโ€.

Albion got off to a bright start to the game, taking the lead after ten minutes, after a moment of magic from Tom Putt, who marked his 100th appearance for the club with an incredible cross field kick which found the hands of the ever reliable Craig Duncan, who was able to run over the try line unopposed to give the home side the early lead.

However, the lead didnโ€™t last long, as ten minutes later the away side were level, as a penalty in the middle of the park led to Rams having a lineout deep in Albionโ€™s 22, which Max Hayman took and then collected at the back of the maul, which drove towards Albionโ€™s try line, before Hayman then broke away from the maul and powered through a tackle to draw the away side level once more.

Albion, however, would take a lead going into the half time interval, with Tom Putt converting two penalties to give Albion a 13-7 lead, and narrowly missing one from the halfway line with the last kick of the half, which saw the home side ahead by six at the break.

Rams only needed four minutes to take the lead at the start of the second half, after some incredible defensive work by the home side on their own try line, it looked as if they had done enough to stop the Rams onslaught but Dan Swain was able to stretch his arm just far enough to edge the ball over the try line amidst two or three tackles on him to give his side a one point lead.

Albion were back ahead not long after as Tom Putt was able to slot home another penalty to retain his side a two point lead with half an hour to go. Unfortunately for Albion, just ten minutes later the away side were back in the lead after Dan Hayman picked up his second try of the afternoon, bulldozing his way through the Albion defense to put his side 5 points ahead with 20 minutes to go.

Albion werenโ€™t going to sit back and let Rams walk away with the points, and kept fighting until the final minute, when it looked like Gabe Mead had gone over from a rolling maul to give Albion an incredible late winner. However, to the disbelief of the over 1000 fans inside the Brickfields, the try was chalked off for being held up on the line, and Plymouth Albion sunk to a heartbreaking 21-16 loss.

Albion now have a weekโ€™s break before their next game on the ninth of November, when they travel to Rotherham to try and return to winning ways.

22/10/2024

Plymouthโ€™s favourite comedy walking tour is going indoors! Join three multi-award winning comedians for an evening of stand-up and silliness as they explore the lighter side of life in Britainโ€™s Ocean City. Itโ€™s daft, funny and not to be missed.

In 2021, three Plymouth comedians were forced out of work by the pandemic. In an attempt to stay sane and put spicy spuds on the table they banded together to create Plymouth Comedy Tours . A walking tour company with the difference where they took groups around the city, telling jokes rather than facts.

Three years on Plymouth Comedy Tours have welcomed over 1000 guests, been given over 150 five-star Tripadvisor reviews and has been featured on BBC Radio 4โ€™s Front Row as a cultural highlight in the city.

Now, for 2 nights only, they have decided to bring the PCT magic indoors! Our three comics will take to the stage at the Barbican Theatre to explore a different side of Plymouth. Laughing at the good, bad and ugly of our underrated seaside city.

Discover more about the โ€˜Real Plymouthโ€™. Find out about life in the city, exploring Plymouth traditions, the way of life and the people who live here. Expect jokes, questionable โ€˜factsโ€™ and plenty of mentions of the โ€˜Private Shopโ€™.

The three comics involved are Suzy Bennett, David Arnold and Christian Russell-Pollock. All three comics perform nationwide, have won a host of comedy awards and have supported some of the UKโ€™s biggest comedy names.

Two shows on 29th and 30th November - ๐ŸŽซ from the Barbican Theatre

Run Plymouth Launches new Christmas Event : Reindeer Run 2024 ๐ŸฆŒ

This Christmas will see the launch of the newest addition to the Run Plymouth calendar, Reindeer Run 2024, a festive fun run around the cityโ€™s Central Park. Taking place on Sunday 15 December, the event promises a fun, magical event experience for both experienced runners and families alike.

Participants, wearing their own set of reindeer ears provided as part of race entry, will navigate around the stunning green space in the heart of the city, choosing between a full 5k route perfect for the more experienced runner, or a shorter 2k fun run open to participants as young as four. With ยฃ1 of every entry fee going directly to charity, the event offers a unique combination of fun and community, reflecting Run Plymouthโ€™s commitment to inclusivity and legacies of positive impact.

Suzi Cumberland, Managing Director of Ta**us Events, said: โ€œReindeer Run 2024 is all about bringing families and communities together for some festive fun. Offering different distances allows us to appeal to both the seasoned runner and first-time participant, offering the whole family the chance to get into the Christmas spirit and get active at the same time.โ€

Participants will enjoy festive decorations as they make their way towards the finish line and be rewarded with a specially-designed finisher medal commemorating their achievement. And, as part of a partnership with Plymouthโ€™s Winter Wonderland, all entrants will receive complementary and exclusive early access to the site to take in the stalls and festive atmosphere.

Jack Fry of Plymouth's Winter Wonderland Central Park 2024 said: โ€œReindeer Run 2024 promises to be an exciting addition to the cityโ€™s festive calendar, perfectly complementing our magical winter festival. All participants will enjoy free early entry and exclusive discounts to use across our stalls and rides, offering a true festive delight for all ages.โ€

Reindeer Run 2024 is the newest addition to the wider Ta**us Events portfolio, known for delivering established events such as Britainโ€™s Ocean City Running Festival under the Run Plymouth brand. Attracting over 15,000 participants annually across the various events, it continues to strengthen its position as one of the South Westโ€™s leading mass participation organisers and event agencies.
