The “kinda” here is REALLY important, make sure you read ⬇️

We all have choices, that’s something we should all agree on. Right?

HOWEVER, the same choices (like going to the gym) aren’t fair for us all.

For example, I live a 1 minute walk away from the gym. Whereas you might live a 30 minute walk. We have the same choice, but is it fair? No.

When it comes to obesity. The answer isn’t as simple as “it’s a choice or it isn’t a choice”, it’s way too complex for that.

There are many socioeconomic, physiological, psychological and biological reasons why these choices aren’t fair.

For example ⤵️
•Genes influence your weight by around 40-70%
•I don’t have kids so I have more time and energy to focus on my health. You might have kids so don’t have as much energy

I could really go on about why our choices aren’t fair…

So the message here is that someone, most probably, isn’t CHOOSING to be obese. Could they make healthier decisions? Maybe, but you wouldn’t know. Plus, it shouldn’t bother you either because people can live their lives how they want.

Be understanding, be compassionate, be empathetic and be kind. You don’t know the drivers behind someone else’s decision making.

Organic VS Non organic 🥑

Which should you choose? 🤔

Organic food is CLAIMED to be much healthier and essential if you’re trying to live a healthy lifestyle, said by those with health privileges.

The main reasons being that organic food has:
•No pesticides
•Has more nutritional density

But that they fail to mention is that that organic food can cost 50% MORE than normal veg… that would take a £250 shop to a total of £500.. in this economic climate, that’s not realistic for MOST families ❌

Also, research shows normal food is just as HEALTHY as organic food AND organic food still USES PESTICIDES 🤦‍♂️

Look here’s the short of it. ‘Organic’ is largely a marketing term. You can achieve all your health goals by NOT eating organic foods. It’s more important to just follow a healthy diet, organic or not 👍

Processed food is still REAL food 📣

The amount of times I hear people labelling foods as good and bad or even clean and junk because of processing 🤦‍♂️

Firstly, different foods can be placed in a grade system based on their level of processing. This list is as follows:
🟢Group 1 - unprocessed or minimally processed foods (seeds, fruits, whole meats).
🟡Group 2 - processed culinary ingredients (salt, sugar, butter and oils).
🟠 Group 3 - processed foods (canned fish, cheese, bread, frozen and canned veg).
🔴 Group 4 - ultra processed foods (fizzy drinks, packaged snacks, ready meals, basically anything with a large ingredient list).

By seeing this you can start to understand that just because something is processed DOESNT mean it’s unhealthy.

For example having a meal with canned tuna and frozen vegetables could be a healthy well balanced meal, even though it’s technically processed…

Even when it comes to ultra processed foods, they can still play a role in a healthy diet! Now I’m not saying they should make up your WHOLE diet (duh) but they still serve a purpose.

When you’re short on time, low on money, fancy a meal out, forgot to plan or you just fancy a takeaway then you’re probably going to eat ultra processed foods.

They may not be as high in nutrients as whole foods but they still have nutritional value.

At the end of the day, I’m not getting a takeaway as a ‘healthy choice’ BUT this doesn’t matter as 80% of my diet is filled with ‘healthy choices’ so it doesn’t hurt.

Plus I challenge you to eat a diet that contains NO processed foods (just group 1), it’s not practical…

Before you get mad and leave a paragraph, take time to read the caption ⬇️

We *technically* all have the same 24 hours, the key word being technically.

HOWEVER, the choices we make each day are not equal due to us all having different life circumstances. Therefore it’s unfair to assume that because we all have 24 hours, everyone should be able to do what you do.

Let’s use an example of myself and an old client of mine.

My client was aiming to get to the gym 5/6 times a week, however, he would struggle with consistency and often ask how I managed to keep up with what I do.

The mix of his inconsistency and comparison made him feel as though he wasn’t doing enough and that he was lazy.

I worked in a gym and would workout 6 times a week. Having full control of my diary and being in the gym pretty much all day meant that it was EASY to get a workout in.

My client however worked full time, often did overtime, lived a 20 minute drive away from the gym, had a family to look after and would often drive his kids back and forth to clubs. Making it HARD for him to get a workout in.

Him even attending the gym 4 days a week was impressive!

The takeaway from this is not to compare your progress or effort level with others. Just because someone may be doing ‘more’ than you doesn’t mean you’re not working hard or that you’re lazy.

The truth is that my client was more dedicated AND worked harder than me!
