The Book Fairies are sharing copies of Legendary Lighthouses of Britain by Roger O’Reilly in some beautiful locations, and this book fairy has taken it as her mission to drop the books at the lighthouses featured!! Today was the turn of Trevose head lighthouse, after preciously dropping at Newlyn and Godrevy!

Who will be lucky enough to spot one?

About the book:

This is a unique celebration of 100 of the most dramatic and storied lighthouses along the coasts of Britain. Illustrated with fantastic retro art by award-winning artist Roger O’Reilly, this guide to the sentinels that guard Britain’s shores is aimed at walkers, art lovers, maritime and countryside enthusiasts, and anyone who just loves lighthouses!

From the Lizard in Cornwall to Muckle Flugga at the northern tip of the Shetlands, and out to the forbidding rock stations that lie offshore in the path of ferocious and unforgiving seas, Roger O’Reilly has selected the very best of Britain’s lighthouses with all their sea legends, folklore and tales of ghosts, shipwrecks and endurance.

Including:

Souter on the Sunderland coast, reputed to be haunted by Grace Darling’s niece Isabella, who lived here in the late 1880s…

Ardnamurchan in the far west of Scotland, so remote that its builders came down with scurvy...

Trinity Buoy Wharf – who knew there was a lighthouse in the heart of London…?

Smalls, off the Pembrokeshire coast, where in 1801 one keeper died and the other went mad…

Here comes my book choice for this month. I really hope you’ll enjoy it...

On the 10th of January we start reading ‘The Endless night’ by Agatha Christie!

About the book….. 📖

– combining love, death and melodrama blended together as only Agatha Christie can.

Gipsy’s Acre was a truly beautiful upland site with views out to sea – and in Michael Rogers it stirred a child-like fantasy.

There, amongst the dark fir trees, he planned to build a house, find a girl and live happily ever after.

Yet, as he left the village, a shadow of menace hung over the land. For this was the place where accidents happened. Perhaps Michael should have heeded the locals’ warnings: ‘There’s no luck for them as meddles with Gipsy’s Acre.’

Michael Rogers is a man who is about to learn the true meaning of the old saying ‘In my end is my beginning…’

Will you be joining us in reading this classic murder mystery? are you still reading Decembers choice ‘The Paris daughter’ by Kristin Harmel?

The Book Fairies are getting festive with Charles Dickens and hiding books at key places in London and all around the UK… Who will be lucky enough to spot one of two copies of A Christmas Carol left at Hannafore today? 🧚🏻‍♂️💚

About the book:

A Christmas Carol is the most famous, heart-warming and chilling festive story of them all. In these pages we meet Ebenezer Scrooge, whose name is synonymous with greed and parsimony: ‘Every idiot who goes about with “Merry Christmas” on his lips, should be boiled with his own pudding, and buried with a stake of holly through his heart’. This attitude is soon challenged when the ghost of his old partner, Jacob Marley, returns from the grave to haunt him on Christmas Eve. Scrooge is then visited in turn by three spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Future, each one revealing the error of his ways and gradually melting the frozen heart of this old miser, leading him towards his redemption. On the journey we take with Scrooge we encounter a rich array of Dickensian characters including the poor Cratchit family with the ailing Tiny Tim and the generous and jolly Fezziwig.

“It’s all fun and games until the magic gets out of hand.”
Who will be lucky enough to spot this copy of A Little Trickerie by Rosanna Pike hidden by a book fairy today?
About the book:
Listen. My one-time friend Maria did tell me once: “Make your own paradise, Tibb, since this world is no sweet place for people like us.”
Born a vagabond, Tibb Ingleby has never had a roof of her own. But her mother has taught her that if you’re not too bound by the Big Man’s rules, there are many ways a woman can find shelter in this world. Now her ma is dead in a trick gone wrong and young Tibb is orphaned and alone.
As she wends her way across the fields and forests of medieval England, Tibb will discover there are people who will care for her, as well as those who mean her harm. And there are a great many others who are prepared to believe just about anything.
And so, when the opportunity presents itself to escape the shackles society has placed on them, Tibb and her new friends conjure an audacious plan: her greatest trickerie yet. But before they know it, their hoax takes on a life of its own, drawing crowds - and vengeful enemies - to their door...

The Book Fairies are sharing copies of The Proof of My Innocence by Jonathan Coe!

Who will be lucky enough to spot a copy? Two copies have been left in the hall for Cornwall this evening for some lucky finders!

About the book:

Post-university life doesn’t suit Phyl. Time passes slowly living back home with her parents, working a zero-hour contract serving Japanese food to holidaymakers at Heathrow’s Terminal 5. As for her budding plans of becoming a writer, those are going nowhere.

That is, until family friend Chris comes to stay. He’s been on the path to uncover a sinister think-tank, founded at Cambridge University in the 1980s, that’s been scheming to push the British government in a more extreme direction. One that’s finally poised to put their plans into action.

But speaking truth to power can be dangerous - and power will stop at nothing to stay on top.

As Britain finds itself under the leadership of a new Prime Minister whose tenure will only last for seven weeks, Chris pursues his story to a conference being held deep in the Cotswolds, where events take a sinister turn and a murder enquiry is soon in progress. But will the solution to the mystery lie in contemporary politics, or in a literary enigma that is almost forty years old?
