Next on our line up for this Friday we also have joining us! Alice Dudley is an indie folk singer-songwriter whose songs are nostalgia-driven, rose-tinted, and only slightly bittersweet. Her lyrics feature the signature blend of romantic optimism and sadness that every twenty-something year old carries in their heart, wrapped up in a haunting vocal that will take your hand and guide you to safety.

Bundled up in her lyrics are feelings of nostalgia, vulnerability, and gratitude for the little things in life. The summer you wish would never end, the relationship you thought would last forever, the inevitable changing of the seasons - Dudley’s introspective lyrics perfectly capture the mixed feelings of a chapter in life drawing to a close. Best summed up in a review by Indie Howl, her music invites you in to a “pretty little melancholic dream”.

Alice will be joined by and our residency artist .elless ✨Doors 7:30pm, grab your tickets below! 🎟️

This Friday we are joined by who will be presenting her debut EP From The Understory, which explores our evolutionary journey and interconnectedness with plant life through vocal harmonies, electronics and analogue textures. The music was developed as part of Alice’s residency at the Eden Project, Cornwall – home to the world’s largest indoor rainforest.

Alice is joined by artists Dazey, zha and Jacob Norris, who together sing harmonies inspired by groups such as Dirty Projectors and Deep Throat Choir. The pieces will be woven together with interludes by writer Natasha Kaeda, whose storytelling will explore our relationship with the ecosystems we live in.

Alice will also be hosting a songwriting workshop this Saturday at along with Dazey, zha and Jacob Norris.

has joined us for their residency this week and we can’t wait to see their creations!
You can see Saoirse perform their project Lamium at this Thursday! They will be joined by and for a night of folklore, the land and the feminine.

We did a Q&A with to get to know them a little better, read below to find out about their musical influences!

What/who are your musical influences? Favourite musical genres?

I take the most direct influence from electronic music, especially downtempo and ambient stuff. I'm a big fan of Burials Anti-Dawn release, it's so textural and experiential, these grand spellbinding soundscapes and private whispers of narrative. This is an album that I think to be Perfect and rare.
I also take lots of influence from Folk songs. I love celtic folk vocal patterns and string movements. I appreciate that songs, tales, poetry and instrumentals are all passed down and altered generationally, allowing for new life to be breathed into them.

We’re super excited for this gig, tickets available at the link below! 🌿

Announcing our fourth residency artist .elless! Ava will also be joining us in April and we’re ready for an exciting month ⚡️

Ava (Jamie) Elless (they/she) is a composer, researcher-designer, performer and artist from Birmingham. Her music often blends alternative and experimental notation practices with graphic design principles and q***r liberation politics. She draws inspiration from medieval European music, worldwide folk traditions, ambient and drone music, natural acoustic phenomena, and sonic storytelling. Primarily a violist, keyboardist, vocalist and bassist, her debut EP ‘string music’ is due to be released in late-Spring 2023. She loves writing, lavender, her friends, looking out the window, long walks, being too silly and drinking water.

Stay tuned for updates on our upcoming gigs 👀

We want to welcome as our third residency artist of the year! Saoirse will be joining us in April and we’re so excited to see what they create.

Lamium is a project by artist Saoirse Horne which explores genres of folk and ambient, using field recordings alongside acoustic musings to provide sonic honourings of wind and weather lore.

🚨Don’t forget to grab your tickets for our gig this Saturday 11th! 🚨We have a dreamy line up of amazing female-led talent including .olamusic, and . Link in the bio for our Eventbrite!

To get to know our headline act and residency artist a bit better, we hosted a Q&A discussing topics such as musical influences, aspirations and creative processes. Keep an eye on our page for a full upload of our interview with K.óla soon!

What do you aspire to do with your music?

I hope to sneak some melodies and lyrics into people's hearts, to help them deal with strange emotions. But the thing I love about my music is how it has given me wings to travel and meet amazing people, to know more of the world and understand myself better. If I use big words: I hope to be a portal, a source of inspiration (and a rockstar).

What/who are your musical influences? Favourite musical genres?

I am a huge fan of Björk, how she is always renewing herself with every album but still always sticking to her core. There is a british artist called Jerkcurb, which I admire for making super beautiful music and also artwork beside his musical universe. I like Connan Mockasin, for his style and weird vibes. I have also been diving a bit more into more hyperpop artists like Charli XCX, Caroline Polachek, Eartheater.
I am just very fond of good pop music, with elements of grabbing melodies and some quirkiness about it, and strong visual worlds.

We’re excited to announce .olamusic as our headlining act for our upcoming gig on 11th Feb! ✨

Since 2017, Katrín has been releasing music and making art under the name K.óla, creating songs that contain playful melodies and sincere lyrics. She is currently living in Copenhagen, studying Music Creation at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory. Next up on the lineup for 11/02 we have the gorgeous and band! ✨

Brit school alumni Caitlin is a neo-soul inspired artist, with soulful vocals and unapologetically honest lyrics that speak beyond her years. The bands rhythmic variations paired with Caitlin’s jazz chords create a unique variation of neo-soul. Bassist Lucia Sorell’s playing is reggae influenced and she now works with neo-soul improvisation and melodic techniques in her basslines. Drummer Max has been playing since he was seven years old and has toured up and down the country. His technical skills and off beat rhythm accent the neo-soul style. The band has been selling out venues in Falmouth and are making a name for themselves throughout all of Cornwall. They’re also working on an EP that is due to come out this summer!

Can’t wait to see them grace the stage, in support of our headline act who we will announce shortly! 🔥

We have an exciting gig at the coming up on the 11th of February, showcasing some incredible female talent.

Kicking it off we have the stunning (she/her) who is a singer/songwriter currently based in Falmouth. Mia crafts her own work through delicate production and broad collaboration, consistently expanding and experimenting with her sound. With inspiration from Alice Phoebe Lou, Wolf Alice and Ben Howard, her music is a formation of vulnerable lyrics, swooning electric guitar riffs and layered, ethereal vocals smothered by elevated orchestral elements. She uses her perspective of the world and her surroundings as her creative drive.

We are so excited to have her on this line up, get your tickets below!

We’re super excited to announce Billie Maree as our first residency artist in February!

Billie draws inspiration from her connection to the polarities of the human experience; the dark and the light. Her poetic words aim to invoke an inner understanding of ourselves. Each song contains its own essence, allowing them to take on a blend of genres. New to putting her music out into the world, she is currently in the process of recording her first Album and performing as much as possible.

Keep your eyes peeled this week for more info on our residency artists and upcoming events! 👀

SIRENS Studio is offering 2 music/sound based residency opportunities in association with Fish Factory Arts for 1 week each (with additional days optional) in February & April 2023. Dates included below:
1st Feb 2023 - 8th Feb 2023
8th Feb 2023 - 15th Feb 2023
1st April 2023 - 7th April 2023
8th April 2023 - 14th April 2023

These residencies are aimed at anyone who identifies as a marginalised gender. SIRENS Studio is a community based project that acknowledges the difficulties that diverse genders have in the music industry, specifically recording studios. The residencies are restricted to people aged 18-25 due to being funded by Youth Music’s Incubator fund for young people. Please only apply if you fit this criteria. (This is also open to duos or bands).

During the residency you will have access to the following spaces:
- SIRENS Studio - recording studio with access to a sound engineer for 12 hours total, the space is available for 24/7 unsupervised practice and recording for the full week (we will give you a short induction to the space at the beginning of your stay)
- Opportunity to do a gig in the performance space at Fish Factory Arts
- Accommodation in the Little Fish Studios residency room, with kitchen and toilet (showering facilities down the road next to SIRENS Studio). Please note this is on the first floor and not suitable for people with mobility needs - other accommodation may be arranged

We have workshop spaces available, so during your stay there is the opportunity of running an informal free workshop for members of the community. This is not a requirement but we would love to know a skill you have that you can pass on to the community.

You will be paid £800 to include expenses and travel cost.

See info in the post for instructions on how to apply! Please send your submissions by 30th December 2022.
