It was breathtaking to sit and listen to Bernard Gardiner on his wartime experiences flying the Hawker Typhoon.

Today is Top Gun Day!

Yes, it's really a thing!

And if you feel the need for speed, then we can very highly recommend getting your butts down to Ultimate High at Goodwood for their excellent Top Gun Experience.

We made this film with them a couple of years ago and it's easily the most challenging environment that we have filmed in.

We missed a few shots because the camera kept toppling on the gimbal in the cockpit of the camera ship. Do you know why?

Because I was inverted 😎

Client: OK, if you help us build the proposition to the exhibitors & sponsors then we will guarantee half of that and we go 50:50 on all revenue beyond that.

Positions:

Client: small risk of costs if the broadcast concept doesn't sell to exhibitors but it’s Redison will help us build the proposition and it adds value to the wider event

Us: Risk (small loss) v Reward of exceeding our usual fees if we can help the client raise revenue of >150% of our initial estimate.

That's what WIN:WIN looks like to us, all pulling in the same direction. The better the proposition, the better the revenue

Yup. We're onboard with this.

This is a lesson that we have learned over the years in that projects can only be successful if the outcomes benefit all partners in an equitable manner.

It was another busy weekend for us and, once again, it was about aviation.

Flying officer Bernard Gardiner was celebrating his 100th birthday at the The Royal Air Force Club in London and we were asked by the Hawker Typhoon Preservation Group to film an interview with him to record his memories of flying the Typhoon in the Second World War.

It was quite incredible to hear Bernard bring the stories to life and fascinating to get first-hand accounts of what it was like to fly the Hawker Typhoon in the role of the first-ever fighter bomber.

This weekend's Pilot Careers Live event was a great success... 🎉

Busy, buzzing & full of enthusiasm 😊

Partnering with the very talented PCL TV presentation team for the third time, we once again delivered a packed 8 hour live broadcast taking the event to a wide audience of potential pilots ✈️

And we thoroughly enjoyed it too 🤣

So we're testing, testing and testing again this week to be sure that our upcoming broadcast event goes as planned 😎

And in the unlikely case that it doesn't, the mitigation plan will kick in.

This is the part of live event broad casting preparation that we love...

The calm before the storm.

The intricate planning, the second by second run order, the rehearsals.

The construction of the tech stack, the repeated test cycles, the cabling diagrams.

All done in the sure & certain knowledge that, despite all the advance care, something unexpected will crop up on the day 🤣

But that's where our very detailed risk mitigation and contingency planning comes into it's own: a second-nature skillset developed over a number of years running large scale projects.

So, bring it on - we're ready!

It’s out!

It took 3 months to plan, execute and edit but the film for the Exocet car from MEV KIT CARS was released this week.

It was a lot of fun working on this and that fun was doubled because it’s such an excellent product - we can’t think of another car that offers so much fun for the money.

And now the factory build option is available, you don’t even need to pick up a spanner.

A little bit of fun now...

We've added the Canon XF605 camera to our arsenal. We've been using the older XF305 ENG (Electronic News Gathering) camera for our live broadcast and journalism work but with the 4k XFAVC codec, the XF605 is the first crossover camera that we would consider using for any cinematic work.

Yesterday, our CamOp, Siubhan Reid, gave it a test run out around Banbury to see how it matched against our Canon C70.

Until circumstances change and the plan needs to be modified...

And it doesn't matter what the scale and scope of the change is, it's how you deal with it that counts.

We encourage and anticipate change and actively welcome it from our clients!

Something not working as expected? Business case out of kilter with reality?

Great: that's a positive opportunity to re-examine, reset and improve.

So the new plan becomes the plan - until it's not 🤣

Listen... do you want to know a secret?

(Ha - that's the ear-worm for the day sorted!)

But, seriously, the secret of listening sometimes feels like it really is a secret!

We believe that one of the keys to successful engagement with our clients is not just to listen but to hear...

To hear what they actually say: not what we think they said or even what we wish they'd said!

Tuning in carefully and consistently to your client's voice is vital to delivering what they need.

And sometimes hearing their silences can be as instructive as their words.

Careful listening leads to clear communication - and happy clients!

Quote of the month from Post Production crew member: "it's all in the cable..."

"Really? What's all in the cable??"

Why did I ask? Surely a cable is a cable is just a cable?

Head is now spinning after an extended & highly technical lecture on the importance of different types of wires and how our data handling rates have now massively improved as a result of a (costly) new cable!

Bigly mps now achieved apparently...

None the wiser but, as ever, very grateful that we have that level of expertise in the team 😀

And good to know that it's resulted in improved productivity when we're at our busiest 🤣🤣🤣
