The movie Highlander was quite enjoyable and probably one of my favourite 'quotable' films to repeat on the school playground back in 1986 - 'There can be only one!'. The game adaptation of Highlander however is neither clever nor entertaining. Apart from the big name and the music, it has very little to offer. If you're looking for a martial arts game, there are many other programs that serve you better than this movie adaptation. Unfortunately, Highlander was a massive letdown. Lets check out why ๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ•น๏ธ๐Ÿ‘Œ

Highlander, for the Commodore 64 - and the 1986 cult film Highlander is the basis of this adaptation, which reduces the film to its swordfighting scenes. Tak...

If youโ€™ve never played Omega Race in any of its incarnations, imagine Asteroids after a rough night outโ€ฆ clumsy, hard to control, and prone to ricocheting off walls instead of gracefully disappearing off-screen. Instead of pulverising rocks, youโ€™re blasting ships, though with about as much precision as a toddler with a water pistol. Hardcore arcade fans will probably love this very early Commodore 64 title ๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ•น๏ธ๐Ÿ‘Œ

Time to fire up the time machine and head back to 1988 with 'Zone Trooper'! It was slapped together back then and promptly buried in a time capsule labelled 'Do Not Open until 2025'. Well, now it's open and once again I find itโ€™s a masterclass in randomness. It's a thrilling saga of dodging un-dodgeable enemies who are about as threatening as a soggy noodle. No matter how well you play, youโ€™ll bumble through about ten screens before meeting an anticlimactic end. A true masterpiece... of mediocrity. Get it fired up anyway haha, give it a whirl ๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ•น๏ธ๐Ÿ‘Œ

Thanatos is a relatively simple continuous scrolling game which many will feel is a bit too 'jerky' to play, however I thought this game still has a good atmosphere & charm about it, even if it is can be ridiculously difficult in places! One for the library though. Happy New Year everyone... we're back! ๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ•น๏ธ๐Ÿ‘Œ

Santaโ€™s got a real sleighmare in 'The Official Father Christmas'! His trusty ride has been scattered across the North Pole, and instead of helping, the elves are channelling their inner Grinches by snatching parts from under his nose. Canโ€™t trust anyone these days! Merry Christmas everyone ๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ•น๏ธ๐Ÿ‘Œ

The Bitmap Brothers delivered a captivating puzzle game with Cadaver. Future titles like Speedball 2 and Gods would be eagerly anticipated by gamers of the 1990s. However, Cadaver came with a warning: embarking on an adventure with your dwarf protagonist may leave you immersed far longer than planned! A very true fact indeed as I was completely hooked on this classic Amiga title back in the day ๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ•น๏ธ๐Ÿ‘Œ

They Stole a Million, for the Commodore 64, stands out as a truly original and engaging experience. What I found most appealing is how the game cleverly combined strategy and planning with an intuitive gameplay loop! Itโ€™s not just a run-of-the-mill action game... youโ€™re required to use your brain a little and think through the logistics of a heist! Give it a whirl! ๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ•น๏ธ๐Ÿ‘Œ

In the tiny world of motorbike-jumping games on the Commodore 64, 'Eddie Kidd Jump Challenge' revs ahead of the pack! Thereโ€™s something strangely rewarding about crashing over and over, just to nail the jump and get that little bit closer to nailing it perfectly. The main sprite itself, despite its pixelated charm, evokes a strong sense of nostalgia. So yeah, as a nostalgia fix, it's as good as any game...even if the critics might not agree! Fire it up and give it a whirl ๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ•น๏ธ๐Ÿ‘Œ

The Muncher, for the Commodore 64, was an ambitious but underwhelming attempt at a โ€˜Rampageโ€™-style game. While the concept of playing the villain and smashing buildings is fun, the ex*****on unfortunately falls short. It's an okay time killer, but it just wasnโ€™t chewy enough to satisfy my gaming appetite. Still... give it a whirl anyway and... bon appรฉtit! ๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ•น๏ธ๐Ÿ‘Œ

No upgrades, no fancy career modes โ€” just pure, chaotic fun on a budget. 'Slicks', from Codemasters, was the racing equivalent of a bag of chips: simple, sometimes a little salty, but oddly satisfying. Slicks also boasted a chaotic two-player mode that was perfect for settling grudges with my brother โ€” on the track, at least! Did you still have your C64 when this was released back in 1992? ๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ•น๏ธ๐Ÿ‘Œ

Pinball Dreams was a masterclass in digital pinball, delivering an experience remarkably close to the real deal back in 1992. It's impeccably crafted, featuring stunning visuals, immersive sound design, and delightful graphical flourishes. Drop everything and get this game fired up on your Commodore Amiga! ๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ•น๏ธ๐Ÿ‘Œ

As a concept.. โ€˜Pneumatic Hammersโ€™ had a lot going for it. It had decent graphics, a very original plot and smooth scrolling - but it could be quite frustrating because of the pixel perfect grabbing of the gold nuggets and might prove too complicated for younger gamers - But for all of you who may have wondered 'what the heck do I have to do in this darned game' well... Let me explain what the game was all about, in the first place! ๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ•น๏ธ๐Ÿ‘Œ

The real star of Rocket Ball is its playability. Sure, the gameplay is a wild, fictional mashup, but it's refreshingly straightforward and easy to get into. The action scrolls as smooth as butter, the controls are snappy, and mastering the art of dodging, defending, and teamplay feels like training for a virtual Olympics. If sports games are your jam and you haven't tried Rocket Ball, stop depriving yourself... Get it fired up on your Commodore 64! ๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ•น๏ธ๐Ÿ‘Œ

'Everyoneโ€™s a Wally' from Mikro-Gen will keep you busy โ€” and confused! The bonus song by Mike Berry is catchy enough to stick in your head for days, whether you like it or not. The game itself? Scarabaeus - also known as 'Invaders of the Lost Tomb' across the pond! A challenge for the thoughtful gamer who likes a mixture of action and strategy!
