Dovestone WI is encouraging all women to go out and vote ahead of the General Election on Thursday, July 4th.
Women fought hard and some even sacrificed their lives to win the right to vote.
The group is gathering today (July 2)at 5pm at the Church of St Ann Lydgate to meet the Pankhurst van and rally support for voting.
A fitting tribute now honours one of Saddleworth’s ‘remarkable sons’.
A blue plaque to Roger Tanner is now in place at Saddleworth museum. Members of the area’s Round Table and 41 Club decided to pay tribute to the man who died aged 100 and had such an impact on the place he called home.

A slice of history passed through Saddleworth today!
The vintage steam locomotive ‘Braunton’ (34046) made a brief but spectacular stop in Stalybridge on Monday, June 3, before heading towards York.
Departing from Crewe, this majestic engine will also journey through Mossley and Greenfield giving rail enthusiasts a chance to witness this marvel in action! 🚂

The doors have been opened on a new village store and Post Office after people living
around it got together and took it on.
When the only shop in Dobcross was threatened with closure as postmaster Brian Hodgkinson announced his retirement, villagers worked to buy the lease.
From approximately 800 homes, more than £60,000 was raised to secure its future.
Now Dobcross Village Store is open for business after the efforts to save it resulted in
the ceremony on Saturday, April 6
Five decades of Morris dancing in Saddleworth are being celebrated as the area’s team marks its 50th anniversary.
Saddleworth Morris Men are essentially touring the area to celebrate the landmark
Three of the original members still perform with Saddleworth Morris Men – Pete, Ronnie Yates and John Dunning.

Greater Manchester Police are at the scene of an incident in Greenfield this evening (Friday, January 12)
Oak View Road is currently closed along with access to the bridge by Greenfield Cricket Club after a car collided with the bollards.
There appears to be some damage to the wall at the bridge entrance (from Ladhill Lane side)

A trail of tractors of all colours, sizes and covered in festive decorations are taking part in a charity event this Christmas Eve.
The popular annual run, organised by Saddleworth Tractor Group will pass through Saddleworth’s villages, raising money for Oldham Roundthorn Salvation Army and Oldham Foodbank.
