*Who did this to us?*

A political party just doesn't exist to win elections, it also exists to serve as the spring board with which nations groom leaders for the future. This is why the selection process of who holds a party's gubernatorial ticket is water tight ( at least should be) so that only the best of the best should represent the party.

I watched with disappointment the very incoherent speech of Monday Okpebholo during the inauguration of their campaign council which they conducted a few days ago. I could see the disappointment and fear in the faces of the people. Disappointment because an Edo man wey nor even go plenty school like that should do better than Monday Okpebholo and fear because make him nor blow the roof of the building with bad English.

The man said restoil education. Oga Monday it is restore please not restoil. He said Edo best is Edo jagajaga, bros the students who benefitted from Edo B. E. S. T speak better than you. Afterall, because of Edo Best they came out Best in a competition that no public school has ever won. If na your type of English dem speak Dem for nor win.

I couldn't make any depth of intellectual meaning from the speech. The senator just kept pacing up and down like someone wey p**s dey catch. Bros please stay in one place, compose yourself and speak confidently. Not only was his speech demotivating, it was also empty, nothing to take home. This is a speech that they must have used one week to rehearse after plenty of coaching.

Comparing the best of Apkakomiza's speech to the worst of Asue Ighodalo's speech you can tell that they are not in the same class. Even if Asue Ighodalo has a cold and isn't feeling too well he will make more sense than Apkakomiza even after he has received coaching from the best lecturers in the world. The man wey nor sabi dey compete with the man wey sabi, indeed politics is a leveler.

So APC looked around all the guys who indicated interest in flying their party's gubernatorial ticket and decided that Monday Okpebholo was their best. How na? Anyway I am not surprised about that at all. Hear what their director of publicity Omo-ojo Orobosa said about Adams Oshiomole in his book, 'Breach of Trust' concerning the selection process of getting a candidate for a party " Oshiomole has always projected weaker links than those perceived to be cerebral "

So clearly APC prefers unintelligent candidates to the intelligent ones. Ordinarily people staff their weaknesses such that when you can't speak very well, you look for another who can speak well to stand by you. But in the case of APC they pick someone who stammers and ask the one who is deaf and dumb to be assistant. Candidate nor sabi yarn and deputy only sabi fight, what a lethal combination.

Little wonder why none of the guys who contested that primary with Monday Okpebholo have not been seen in public with him. Where is Prof Osunbor, where is Gideon Ikhine, where is Mike Onolememe, where is Dr David Imuse. All of these guys who are brilliant guys themselves can't believe what APC did.

BREAKING: Orbih accepts to be part of Edo PDP Campaign Council

… As NWC fosters unity, reconciliation

By George Etakibuebu

Things are looking up for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State ahead of the September governorship election as the National Vice Chairman, South-South, Chief Dan Orbih has now accepted his appointment as a member of the State PDP Campaign Council. With the latest development, the PDP in Edo state is now poised to prosecute the campaigns with unity of purpose and ensure the victory of the party’s candidate, Dr Asue Ighodalo.

The decision was arrived at during the 586th National Working Committee Meeting of the party on Tuesday, May 7, in Abuja.

National Publicity Secretary, Hon Debo Ologunnagba, made this known in a statement he posted on the party’s verified X handle on Tuesday evening.

The statement reads in full: “The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at its 586th meeting today, Tuesday May 7, 2024 extensively reviewed all issues concerning our Party in Edo State. The NWC enjoined all leaders, stakeholders and teeming members of our Party in Edo State to, in the overall interest of the people and that of the PDP, close ranks and work together for the success of the Party in the forthcoming Governorship election in Edo State.

“At the meeting, the NWC considered the reaction and or statement credited to the National Vice Chairman (South South), Chief Dan Orbih on the membership of the Edo State Governorship Election Campaign Council.

“After a thorough review of the issues and in the spirit of unity and reconciliation, the National Vice Chairman (South South), despite his initial displeasure over the constitution of the Edo State Campaign Council, reconsidered and accepted his inclusion and membership of the Council.

“The NWC urges the people of Edo State to continue in their massive support and solidarity to our Party and Governorship Candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, ahead of the September 21, 2024 Governorship Election in the State,” Ologunagba wrote.

Orbih had few days after the list was released publicly rejected his inclusion and vowed not to be part of the Council since he was not consulted and contacted before his name was included in it.

Ighodalo Fires Back: Denies Involvement In Shaibu Impeachment Saga

In response to recent accusations by former Deputy Governor Phillip Shaibu, Asue Ighodalo's media team issued a robust statement asserting his innocence and distancing him from any involvement in Shaibu's impeachment process.

The statement, released by the DR Asue Ighodalo Media Team in Benin City on April 29, 2024, categorically refutes Shaibu's claims and labels them as spurious and without merit. According to the statement, Ighodalo played no part in the highly publicized impeachment and subsequent removal of Mr. Shaibu from office by the Edo State House of Assembly.

"We would not usually join issues in response to every passing comment," the statement reads, "but it has become imperative to address the recent allegations by former Deputy Governor Phillip Shaibu."

The media team asserts that Ighodalo had no role or involvement whatsoever in the events leading to Shaibu's impeachment, emphasizing that the claims made by Shaibu are baseless attempts to tarnish Ighodalo's reputation and divert attention from substantive issues.

"We urge the public and the media to disregard these false statements," the statement continues.

Furthermore, the media team reaffirms Ighodalo's commitment to running a gubernatorial campaign based on issues and devoid of distractions, emphasizing his dedication to serving the people of Edo State.

The statement concludes with a firm declaration of Ighodalo's continued focus on his campaign objectives.

As the gubernatorial race in Edo State gains momentum, this statement from Ighodalo's media team adds another layer of intrigue to the political landscape, raising questions about the motivations behind Shaibu's allegations and the potential impact on the electoral process.
