With Christmas just around the corner, my mind turned to finding something a little different.

These two pieces are settings of German carols arranged for the Christmas concert in Heilsarmee Gelsenkirchen, Germany on the 3rd of December.

My Heart Rejoicing is an intrada on: All my Heart this Night Rejoices.

Mit den Hirten is a carol about wanting to go with the shepherds:

I will go with the shepherds to see
my Saviour,
my dear holy Christ,
who was born for me.

PRELUDE, SONG & FUNK is a commission from The Saxophone Orchestra, Manchester and their esteemed leader; Saira Clegg.

The three movements attempt to portray different sides of the saxophone personality in three characteristic movements.

PRELUDE salutes the contribution of the classical composers such as Eugene Bozza and Darius Milhaud.

SONG showcases the sensual quality of the instrument in a mock power ballad.

FUNK, is pure filth and the driving riffs are a homage to the years this composer spent at the home of John Dankworth as leader of the Jazz programme.

A little feel-good piece ahead of the winter blues.

Writing music for a special occasion is always an honour. When the occasion is the dedication of your grandson, honour is taken to a new level.

This short piece was written for the dedication service of Noah James Marsh and features two familiar songs; "When you See a Rainbow" (remember God is love) and "The Animals Went in Two by Two." Both tunes are secular in origin but have been claimed by the church for a higher purpose.

Sunrise Service (from African Sketches) by Andrew R. Mackereth. Inspired by an early childhood memory of watching the sun rise on Easter Sunday from the top of Easter Hill, Chikankata - Zambia.

It uses melodies associated with the Easter.
