Hi all! so we saw in the news that the Marcus Garvey (Lenton business Centre, Rayleigh HQ... whatever you like to refer to it as) is shutting and the tenants have bene given 28 days to vacate the premise. This came as some shock to us, but we have confirmed that Little is safe and we can continue to carry on.
We have completely Gutted that any businesses/organizations inside the main building have just 28 days to fined new premises. That will mean a death nail for much of them. There will be Jobs lost, livelihoods lost, small business, charities and community groups going to the wall!
In the current climate its baffling! What kind of fire risk could bring this about the closing of two buildings that are not connected to each other? Why is this suddenly a thing? What are the Council going to do to rehome the effected Tenants? What support and compensation if any will you help defend these organizations from going under for this issue that shouldn't be their problem? Why did some of the businesses find out via the Nottingham Post? Why only 28 days?
The theme of thought from around the business centre. Is that this is some kind of manufactured excuse to empty the site to sell off and redevelop. Whilst I don't believe this. The fact that a fire risk, that could condemn two separate big buildings that have stood for decades, I must admit seems hard to wrap my head around.
These folks we have spent time with in the yard laugh and joking on Sunny days in the yard! Hearing about the clever ways they have come up with earning a crust! or communities they are supporting.
Sorry for in advanced MPS for tag'ing you in this. Most likely you'll be blind sided by this too. But I can't seem to find any local councillors to help. But if you could help support these businesses and charities! If not to remain in the building. But get some clarity and support relocating so the don't go to the wall! We'd be forever grateful!
