Three years ago this week, the brilliant 'Dimensions' album from Robert & Isaac as 'Light Of Day' started to land on everyone's doormats and, almost without exception, you all loved it to bits.
You were all more welcoming than any of us imagined and everyone is grateful for the love you shared for this slice of audio heaven.

All three physical versions of the album - amber vinyl / black vinyl / CD - are still available at Burning Shed, via Bandcamp or direct from the label (i.e. me) so treat yourselves, someone you like or fancy to a copy.

PM me if you are interested in buying direct or use the links below. Hint: Robert & Isaac get more if you come to me direct!

Well hello! Things have been so quiet here for the last year or so as real life came back with a vengeance and livings needed to be earned, souls rested and we all just started to get back into the swing of things only to find that the world was a post-pandemic (not that it has really finished) cataclysm of self-entitled, racist morons who couldn't wear a mask to save someone else's life.

If you are one of those people, this may not be for you.

Today we have released the first track by our new acquaintance here at the [last word music] homestead.

Please welcome Du, Königin and check out the first release 'Am7' from the upcoming album, provisionally entitled 'I'.

https://dukonigin.bandcamp.com/track/am7

This is what Du, Königin have to say about themselves. It's informative, if a little oblique but at least they love where they're from:

My home is Düsseldorf
I write in Düsseldorf
We perform in Düsseldorf
We record in Düsseldorf
I love in Düsseldorf
My heart is in Düsseldorf
Everything is Düsseldorf
Neu! Düsseldorf
La Düsseldorf
D.A.F. Düsseldorf
Kraftwerk Düsseldorf
Die Krupps Düsseldorf
Propaganda Düsseldorf
Die Toten Hosen Düsseldorf
Du, Konigin Düsseldorf
Florian, Düsseldorf
Düsseldorf
Düsseldorf
Düsseldorf

Please enjoy and, if you do, please share & buy.

Thank you all,

Simnon

It's fee-free Friday on Bandcamp on 6 May (tomorrow, at the time of writing) and from about 8am UK time Bandcamp will be waiving the fee they charge artists for anything bought on the site so please help the likes of Robert, Isaac & Martin get more dosh.

To help you with the heart rending decision we will be selling a limited number of Light Of Day's 'Dimensions' black vinyl LPs, amber vinyl LPs, CDs and 'La Inmensidad' CD EPs that have been autographed by Robert - thanks to Stephen for lugging them to & from Costa Rica for us. I'll put these on sale when I get up in the morning so keep an eye out & don't miss out: these are VERY limited.

Please note: given some of the covers have travelled thousands of miles across the ocean & back, some corners may be slightly dinted. The records are bought as 'seen'/advised.

Hi all - it's been a bit quiet here at Chez [last word music] but we've actually been beavering away over the last few months: it's amazing for a couple of months of redundancy can do for you.

We’re really pleased to announce that the brilliant Genre Peak will be releasing their next album “Psychopathy” – the first for six years! - through [last word music]! This is fantastic news and we are really looking forward to bringing it to you for – hopefully – late May/June.

For those of you that don’t know Genre Peak, the project has long been the baby of Martin Birke but now the band also includes the excellent Aaron Kinney and features a host of their favourite musicians.

Having worked with some of the world’s most innovative musicians on their previous releases such as Mick Karn, Robert Dean, Steve Jansen & Richard Barbieri (most of the influential 80s band, Japan) as well as Jon Hassell, this release sees Genre Peak hunker down, focusing on their own undoubtable skills, some of their tried and trusted old friends and a huge spectrum of influences.

Martin Birke has reunited with former Casualty Park partner, Aaron Kinney, who is now a full member of the band and brings a brand-new energy to the music composition, performance and production resulting in an album that almost literally ‘fizzes’ with drive and rage. The result is eight tracks that shine with their influences whilst always remaining true to Genre Peak: songs that musically evolve from an identifiable electronic sound but still speak to us of our times, the huge unprecedented and disorientating changes the world is experiencing whilst retaining a core humanity.

For this release Martin has returned to [last word music], the label that released his extraordinary 2020 mini-album “Triptych+” with world-renowned guitarist Robert Dean, a release that strongly resonated with fans of all types of electronic music.

More news as we get it but, for now, here’s a sneak peek at the ‘hot-off-the-press’ promo CD for “Psychopathy”

Hi all.

It's been a bit quiet for the last few months because......COVID, stupid governments, work, redundancy....you name it: there's bound to be an excuse there. ;-)

That doesn't mean that nothing is happening. We are thinking of another 'bijou'/short run release, [last word music] is negotiating and prepping for a new release by an artist new to the label but who will be familiar to many of you and we've ben sorting out all the finances for the releases so far so Robert, Isaac & Martin get their share of the net income.

We've also launched a new range of designs on Redbubble. These are all designs that we considered as t-shirts around the time of the Dimensions release but were ultimately ousted by the ones that make it through. We will add other designs as time goes by (Triptych for starters) so why not add our shop as a 'favourite' on the Redbubble shop so you hear of any new designs as they pop up?

The good thing about Redbubble is that it takes financial risk out of the equation for both the label & the artists by printing to order. And, of course, it has a huge range of different items and colours that we could never hope to produce on our own. As before net income for the original artists on [last word music] will go straight to Robert, Isaac and Martin.

Y’Know When They Say ‘Limited’…? #....lost count.

And the bidding is over! Thanks so much to everyone that supported the auction and, of course to those that submitted bids. All told the bids totalled almost £1,000 which is a staggering level of interest - amazing!!

But there can only be one winner and I'm pleased to say that that person has coughed up the cash and it is all ready to be sent their way. Not going to say who the person is or how much they paid since it is private to them - it's only fair.

And commiserations to those that bid and didn't win - thanks so much and sorry you weren't lucky this time around. Maybe next time.....

What I would like to hear is what you thought about the really limited nature of the release and how we went about selling it. Happy to hear both the good & the bad but please remember that this was an attempt to get something out to fans while there is a lot of disruption in the record industry. We already have a few other ideas about how we can get music to you so we'd really like to hear the feedback.

Thanks all - proud of ya!

Y’Know When They Say ‘Limited’…? #4

What to do….?

It’s easy. This is an auction. You have until midnight UK time on Friday 29 October to send your ‘sealed’ bid to [last word music] via a private message. It isn't difficult - try hovering over our profile image & take it from there. Don’t send them to my personal Facebook account, don’t post them here since they won’t count, and you’ll simply look daft.

These records are basically hand-made: each of them required a cutting engineer to use a lathe to cut the long, continuous groove in the vinyl. That means that every disc is different and it’s a bit like making an acetate or a lacquer (which is then used to create the record stampers) only using different material. As such, they really are not cheap but we want to see if you, Robert's supporters, are interested. If you are then we will look to do more bespoke items like this. If not, well….then the wait for new music will be longer, I guess.

The highest bidder will win the auction and get the record. I’ll write to the winner on the Saturday and give the total price including postage [which will be at cost]. If you pay by late Sunday, then it is all yours and the disc will be posted on Monday or Tuesday. If you don’t pay in time, the next highest bidder gets it and so on…….full instructions will be given at the time.

It’s easy, yeah? Any questions about the disc or its contents, please post hem here so everyone knows.

Happy bidding.

Y’Know When They Say ‘Limited’…? #2

What to do….?

We have a release!

- And it’s a record!!
- And it’s crystal-clear vinyl!!!
- And it’s numbered!!!!
- And…..autographed!!!!!!

And it is extremely limited…….there is only ONE for sale.

Yes. One. Un(e). Una/Uno, Einer, один, Ichi, Egy, 1, I, etc, etc…..

This will be the only physical release of Robert Dean’s ”To The Blue Ocean” for a long, long time and is the only time that this version will EVER be released physically.

Three copies are being pressed in total: one for Robert, one for the label (yes, me) and one for whichever of you gets it. Also, the artist normally gets the lowest numbered copy. Robert has graciously said that whoever buys the record can have his copy.

We’ll get in touch soon to tell you how we are going to give you the opportunity to own this beauty: it looks & sounds absolutely amazing!

In the meantime, take a look at the pics and have a listen to “To The Blue Ocean” here: https://soundcloud.com/lastwordmusicrecords/robert-dean-to-the-blue-ocean

A beautiful solo composition by Robert conjuring up the seeming infinity of the deep, blue, endless sea....

Y’Know When They Say ‘Limited’…? #1

Sometimes they really mean it…..

We really wanted to get some new music from [last word music] out to you but, as you know, we value physical releases over downloads & streaming. Physical product is what keeps artists & smaller labels going rather than the big & nasty digital distributors and aggregators.

The problem is that turnaround times for all physical release basically, well, suck at the moment. Unless you’re Sony, Universal or similar who have block booked pressing plants, there’s currently no chance of getting a CD release out for at least 6 months. And as for records…..you’re going to be waiting at least a year.

That’s a death knell for some labels. Fortunately, we are not-for-profit, I don’t take anything out of the company and so we can survive.

What to do….?
