We were delighted to sponsor this year’s Young Muslim Writers Awards at the School of Advanced Study, University of London. A HUGE congratulations to all those young writers who were shortlisted for this prestigious award 👏🏼

This Hands UKteracy initiative , presented in association with is an excellent platform that harnesses the creative talent of our young 5-16 year old Muslims across the country, encouraging them to be bold and courageous with their pen, and unapologetically themselves. We were impressed to see such depth, wit and tenacity in their different forms of writing.

‘My dad was among the first generation pioneers of da’wah and islamic pastoral care and education. He expressed it first through imamati, and eventually shifted to establishing our islamic bookshop, which at different times was situated in both masjids of Tooting before our present high street location - he wanted to reach all the people who didn’t, couldn’t or wouldn’t go to a masjid, Muslims and non-muslims alike. He taught us how to be da’ees in any capacity, and his intention was to partake of the good deeds of everyone he served. He was always firm on his mission and loved our community deeply.

In his latter years, he poured himself into charity work, especially in our hometown in Noakhali, Bangladesh, building orphanages and masjids, and providing aid to needy families. He struggled with disability and illness for many years, but it didn’t stop him from continuing this work, even when he could no longer get out of bed. After a long and difficult battle with bile duct cancer, Allah took him back to Himself, and we ask Him to accept every effort he made in His way…’
