Livewire1350, UEA’s student radio station, is one of the longest established and best respected student radio stations in the country. It was founded in 1989, opened by John Peel, and is run by UEA students, broadcasting to its very own University campus, the Norwich area and anyone else! Every day from 8am-midnight we bring you varying shows with a range of musical styles, as well as the latest m
usic and student news. As well as the radio station we host loads of great live events. Hearing Aid, Livewire’s biggest charity event, is a day of fun games to raise money for a charity of our choice. We also hunt for the best unsigned band in our Livewire Unsigned competition, not to mention a whole host of DJ nights and club nights, including Homesick Beats. Livewire is also famous for its previous Station Manager turned Radio One DJ, Greg James. Greg managed the station in 2005 while a student at UEA and won a Student Radio Award for Best Male Presenter the same year. Shortly after he joined Radio One and is now presenting the 4-7pm weekday slot for the station. With great music, great DJs and great entertainment Livewire really is an essential part of the UEA experience.

Music Team Member Tom Porteous, went to the group ‘Jockstrap’ play at …
Georgia Ellery and Taylor Skye gave an intimate, mesmerising, and mystical performance at the tucked away venue in The Fine City.
Ellery and Skye are both graduates of London’s prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama and have made a career of tearing down their academy walls.
The duo stopped in Norwich during their UK tour after the release of their critically acclaimed debut album I Love You Jennifer B.
The Norwich Arts Centre was the perfect venue for the twosome with Skye on production and keyboard and Ellery on vocals, violin, and guitar. It's a sold-out Friday night show, and anticipation is high as the curiously energetic support act, Babymorocco, gets the party started.
At 9pm, Jockstrap strolled onto the stage, the lights hum a blood red and the droning beats of the title track Jennifer B start to play with dry ice from the smoke machine creeping up the pillars of the old church venue.
Anticipation from the audience as they creep forward and wait for Ellery to grasp the mic. Once she starts singing, it becomes clear that Ellery’s vocals are a thing of haunting beauty as she gracefully moves around the stage giving the perfect aura to the performance.
For most of the set, Skye remains boxed in by his production equipment - I was in particularly glad that they did not sorely focus on their new album and performed some of their older songs including some songs from their earlier EPs Love is the Key to the City and City Hell which have some of the stranger but some of my favourite tracks from the duo included.
A highlight of the gig was when they ended on the club banger - ‘50/50’ which sent the NAC crowd bouncing.
After it finished the duo left the stage which leaves the crowd chanting “one more song!” And so, Jockstrap return for just that as the chords start playing for the very sexy Taylor Skye remix of, I Want Another Affair as the crowd cheers and reignites frenzy of bounces. Leaving the venue, I hear everyone’s great words about the performance with one audience member saying “that was the best £12 I have ever spent.” �
Overall, Jockstrap did not disappoint their live performance had creativity, talent and a sound that even people that have never even heard of the duo can appreciate.
Georgia Ellery’s presence on stage was amazing as she radiated early Jim Morrison energy. They are clearly going to be a force to be reckoned with over the next few years with them doing it like no one else, I am very much looking forward to what they bring next!

This BHM we want our members, listeners & our campus community to discover, champion and celebrate black musicians and people in the audio industry.
As much as the music we listen to originates from black culture we also want to take this month to highlight the black people within the audio industry who often go uncelebrated.
Each week we’ll be highlighting black people within the industry and also hope to talk to musicians that walked the campus which we now do!

A HUGE congratulations to the a-level students all over the country for receiving their results today!! You all worked so hard and it has definitely payed off. Time to celebrate your great achievements and you should all be proud of yourself.
If it hasn’t gone as planned, don’t stress. You all tried your best which is all anyone could ask for and things will fall into place, we promise! Trust the process and remember, everything happens for a reason.
For those of you confirming a place and joining us at UEA in September, we are looking forward to meet you all. It is going to be a fun year ahead and we are excited to share it with you. UEA is a wonderful place to be and we wish you luck with this exciting path you’re about to go on. Hopefully see you soon,

It’s the end of a fantastic year of student radio here at UEA, and we would like to invite you all to celebrate with us!
