Yo! Here's the new project I've just got involved in with a bunch of other local promoters at The Owl Sanctuary. If you could give the page a quick like and check it out, there's gonna be a whole ton of rad times ahead! Here's some words from Sean that will explain the whole thing better than I can...
"The Owl Sanctuary, Rad Times Promotions, Hubs, Off With Their Records , Lift Off and HowlBack Hum are pleased to present Sacred Sounds
In spring last year my friend and local musical legend Andy Sacre left this planet we call home. Prior to his passing he and I discussed the creation of a local musical platform where local bands, groups and promoters could interact, network and share ideas, contacts or music. Andy was really into the idea of community collaboration we spoke about it many times. Sadly his digital idea remained just a dream however its principles are due to become reality through the newest of new musical evenings 'Sacred Sounds.'
Sacred Sounds is a new free entry Thursday at the Owl Sanctuary and is hosted by Rad Times Promotions, Hubs, Off With Their Records, HowlBack Hum and Lift Off. Each individual showcase is the promoters own however their planning and conception is through our collective. We hope to host all of the various musical food groups, which each promoter taking a turn. Here is a little about each organiser;
Off with their Records live
Armed to the teeth with ideas and opinions on how and why the music industry failed to get to grips with the digital revolution, Norwich's own DIY digital record label, Off with their Records, has been working overtime this year pioneering and innovating, leading the charge for a DIY music industry. These live events are part of a new initiative in which the performances are lovingly recorded, mixed, mastered and released to support some of the most interesting and unique artists around.
Rad Times Promotions was founded in early 2014 by local musician Matt Beauchamp, with the intention to be putting on as many free local shows around the city as possible & help Norwich's music scene to progress or at least stay alive in a time when it seemed to be suffering. This eventually evolved into an online blog & small label; posting reviews, interviews & putting out releases including the 'Rad Times Norwich Mixtape' that included over 20 local bands.
HowlBack Hum is the brainchild of local gig promoter Shane O'Connor Who has been organising and promoting the local gig night Howlback Hum since 1999. Howlback Hum nights are held across the City in anything from basements or fields to pubs and bars. "Fundamentally the nights acts as a platform for local bands to get out and play. Our aims are often small and hard to achieve but are special none the less," explained Shane. In the gigs that he puts on, Shane strives to root out talent, quality and innovation at every step.
'Lift Off is a night of music from the fringes; including jazz, prog, space rock, psychedelia and other weirdness. Curated by instrumental power quartet Jacob Solstice and the Cosmic Order, it will feature a diverse range of local and national acts and have themed nights with exciting costumes and visuals. Prepare for lift off!'
Hubs Records will be bringing a new tipple to the Owl - The Thursday Quench. Your monthly serving will come in all sorts of flavours.. whether it be blues, soul, funk, hip hop, folk, Hubs will be selecting the finest local acts to provide those grooves. Vinyl downstairs and bands/artists upstairs including a live improvised Jam session.
The events will be a mixture of upstairs, downstairs, or both upstairs and downstairs. Entry will always be free however donations to an as yet unconfirmed charity would be appreciated, a bucket will get passed round."
