Don’t be too expectant with people, wanting them to solve your problems for you. All they can offer you is the room to choose what’s best for you.

That’s because people can suggest what’s best for you and the choice is yours to make.

Choices are very important and it’s yours to make.

Set yourself apart to do the things that you’ve always wanted to do and drift a little away from always doing the norm.

Let’s change the results by changing first how we’ve always done some things, so far as it’s a good thing.

Instead of worrying about what you cannot control, shift your energy to what you can create.

I cannot control how cold the weather gets and the sad mood that it creates by keeping everyone indoors but I can choose to not be inside and create some memories.

Yesterday was a fun time created by some Ghanaians living in Norwich, UK.

We had fun, ate some good local dishes from home that we missed a lot, created some good memories and bonded with other Ghanaians.

The Christmas ended with smiles on my face and I could see the same expression with my friends (Clinton Asare and Prince Boateng Amoah )

We met amazing people like Louisa Quarshie .

Life comes as a package with different other packages inside.

The most obvious package is either you have a good day or you have a bad day.

One thing too is, it’s not the package you get that matters but your reaction to what package you get is what matters.

Good days obviously bring good memories to us and makes us feel good. But what of those days where the unexpected happens.

I see them to be days of learning, experiences needed for something forthcoming.

Define the situations you find yourself in and motivate yourself to reach for higher levels.

Remember those walls you built.
When they’re tumbling down, will you stay quiet or put up a fight?

You believed in your abilities and so clear all doubts that keep knocking at your door. Be your own hero first then you can be for others.

Anytime you believe in yourself, it’s like you’ve been awakened from a nightmare that you were the hero in. Believing in yourself is always like a fight when there’s doubt.

Don’t ever feel like someone owes you something, embrace yourself and start a fight for you, for the things you believe in and want, nobody will do that for you.

Define yourself by how you fall, whether you stay down or you rise again when you fall.

Embrace what you are and what you have and never shut that smile that forms a halo around you that keeps other people too going.

“It’s never easy”, we say.
The more reason why quitting is not the option.

So far as there’s the option to quit, then there’s the option to keep fighting, keep moving.

There’s no result when you quit.
You only see how well you did when you don’t quit and keep working. That’s when you’re going to learn from the experiences on the journey.

The experiences helps you get better, tougher, get more experienced at what you do and the next attempt becomes easy to go through.

Don’t be so fixated on the problem.
Spend more time in trying to figure out what the solution will be.

Remember, quitting doesn’t produce results.

Everything doesn’t make sense at once, it takes time to see what lies ahead.

You might be in the right profession but you’re so much in a hurry to see what comes next that you sometimes miss the reason why you’re there in the first place.

In as much as the endpoint is important, the journey to the endpoint is equally important because without the journey, there is no destination.

Don’t be in a haste to see what you’re not ready to see for with patience and persistence, hurdles and problems seem to magically disappear.

MARK JAVE BAUTISTA was part of the first MSc cohort in The Sainsbury LaboratoryThe Sainsbury Laboratory.

After the MSc, he got the opportunity to do his PreDoc research in the lab. His love and passion for the course keeps him going.

“I love rice and I love pathogens”, he said. 😊

If you should ever meet the word opportunity in your journey of life, stop it and take it with you. They don’t come around more often.

Science is great and when you get close to the people who do it, it’s fun.

After The Sainsbury Laboratory Autumn symposium yesterday, dinner was served and my course mates and I had the privilege to sit on the same table with the executive director Nick Talbot.

Talks ranged from history to the future of TSL and its great scientific discoveries.

I am glad to be part of this laboratory and I’m sure my colleagues are too.

The best way to keep going is to stay positive, hopeful and focused.

Sometimes you can be a distraction to yourself by focusing on things that are not necessary for the journey.

A positive mindset is to always see the best side of things even if others see the worst.
