We have some positive news to talk about with regards future film production and we will hopefully be talking about it next few weeks. We will of course attempt to cast and crew with as many local people as possible so feel free to send CVs/Showreels to [email protected].
We have also been talking music for upcoming films and had some very interesting conversations. One that was particularly positive was with singer songwriter Vince Freeman. He has just released an album and every song feels like it could be from a Rom Com or an emotional drama. Give it a listen here.

We are looking for witches. The sound design of Macbeth is taking shape and although we have some brilliant actors who have already recorded the Witches dialogue, we want to enrich what we have and create an other worldly cacophony of sound. We have actors in London who are ready to do it, but we thought we would see if anyone in Northants would want to be part of it? We have no specification or age or gender and it would involve 30-60 minutes of your time in our office in Northampton. DM if interested.

Final day of Countdown to "The Operator" premiering at 8pm on Friday on Screen Northants Youtube Channel.

One of the things that attracted Becky and Paul (the films Producers) to Matts’ script was that not only was it a brilliantly written, character driven narrative, but it also had deeper message.

“The operator is an allegory for our relationship to the planet as we learn the extent and seriousness of the climate and ecological emergencies. Specifically exploring the notion of “climate grief” Matt Reilly.

This film was shot during lockdown and although we could not provide the same level of experience our academy young people usually get, we did manage to provide some innovative experiences.
One of which was live-streaming the set build, lighting set up and shoot.

Countdown continues. 3 days until the public premiere of "The Operator". Friday, 8pm on Screen Northants, Youtube channel. As you can see from the poster, the film won many fantastic awards. The film was selected to many more festivals and was shortlisted for awards in almost every category.

The Countdown Begins. This Friday at 8pm will be the public premiere of Screen Northants, multi award winning short film "The Operator". This is a brilliant debut by Writer/Director Matthew Riley, with an incredible lead performance by Graham Dickson and we are really excited for people to see it. Between now and Friday we will post more about the process but for now, here is the trailer to whet your appetite.

Macbeth was created as part of a BBC Children in Need project to provide oportunities and experience which enriches the lives of young people in Northamptonshire. In addition to working on a feature film, those young people also created short films supported by professionals. They made a series of films to try and raise support for the project which highlighted what could go wrong if we dont have enough budget. We absolutely them. We are gathering assets for the EPK now that Macbeth is FINALLY so close to completion. To give you all an idea how epic this journey has been, the first cut of Macbeth was 4 hours long!!!! I am going to add some of the pics and videos as I gather them. First up is one of the times ITV came to visit.

Screen Northants 48 Hour Film challenge Theme. There are 2 events currently happening that have inspired the theme for the Screen Northants 48 hour film challenge. Pride Month and Refugee Week are important events that we at Screen Northants fully support and the only way we know how to support anything is through film creation. This months theme is “Pride and Prejudice”. As will all themes, this is a jumping off point to get your creative juices flowing and you can respond and interpret all or parts of the theme to create the film you want to make. This month’s judge is Nick Allen, Executive Officer at the University of Northampton. Nick was born in Northampton and has worked for the University since 2004. He says, “as a member of the Northampton Pride Committee and Secretary of Northampton Town of Sanctuary (a group which supports asylum seekers and refugees in Northampton and surrounding areas), the topics of Pride and Prejudice are very dear to me. The experiences of members of the LGBT+, asylum seeking and refugee communities can be particularly harrowing – made the much worse when you belong to more than one of these communities at the same time. NFF Broadcast: Kerrie Cosh BBC Radio Presenter and NFF judge talks to us about Film

We excited to be speaking to judge Kerrie about her career and love of Film. Kerrie Cosh is a Presenter at BBC Radio Northampton – hosting the BBC Introducing show on Saturday nights – and can often be found sitting in for Jack Saunders on BBC Radio 1’s Future Artists. After starting out as a YouTube video editor whilst at University to make money on the side, she then made her first audio documentary called ‘The Men Forced to Marry’ in 2019 about male victims of forced marriages who live in the UK. Outside of radio, Kerrie hosts workshops to teach people how to shoot and edit films using only their smartphones.

NFF: Competition judge Callie Cooke on her acting career and all things film

Callie, who attended Campion School in Northants, graduated drama school in 2016. Her credits include: Firebird (Hampstead Theatre & Trafalgar Studios West End) which she was nominated for an ‘Emerging Talent’ Evening Standard award, Britannia (Sky), The Stranger (Netflix), Rules of the Game (BBC), Cheaters (BBC) and is currently shooting Wedding Season for Disney Plus. She is judge for 2022's Northampton Film Festival.

“MACBETH” (post-production) - a modern day urban Macbeth based in Northampton. Behind the Scenes Teaser. Behind the Scenes Crew.

“NENE” (post-production) - Behind The Scenes. Supported by BBC Children in Need and Heritage Lottery funded Nenescape, we have produced a feature film set along the River Nene involving young people from Northamptonshire. Exclusive preview screening of the film at Northampton Filmhouse on Sat 13th July!

“UN-NAMED PROJECT” - (in development, due for shooting late 2019 and early 2020)

“REVERBERATIONS” (2018) - Sci-fi drama for British Sign Language TV, shown on Film 4. In 2167, a fascist Government uses advances in gene therapy to wipe out Deafness and create a "perfect" society. A young Deaf time traveller is sent back to 2018 to find the inventor of the cure and change her mind before it's too late.

“NIGHT DEVIANT” - (in development) - British Sign Language horror film.

“GANG LIFE” - (post-production) - made with the support of BBC Children in Need and the Office of Northamptonshire Police and Crime Commissioner via Northamptonshire Community Foundation.

“ON-CALL FIREFIGHTER” (2019) - recruitment videos made for Northamptonshire Fire Service to promote on-call firefighter recruitment in Northamptonshire. 5 Videos created: “Do it for your community”, “ Do it for your pride”, “Do it for yourself”, “Do it for your prospects”, “Do it for your family”. We worked with young people from Bee Hive Northampton, a sixth form special educational needs school, to come up with the ideas, pitch to the fire service and shoot out on location in Northants. “WHY FILM IN NORTHAMPTONSHIRE” (2018) - take a look at what Northants has to offer the film industry. Dramatic shorts showing off some of our stellar locations!

“THESE STREETS” (2017) - Music Video for Canter Semper - supported by BBC Children in Need and Northampton Borough Council, keeping in with Screen Northants’ social enterprise model, young people star in the music video and were involved in the production.

“ONE GOOD DEED” (2016) - Short film created for Holocaust Memorial Day 2016 on that year's theme of Don't Stand By. The film was produced by Screen Northants in Northampton supported by Northampton Borough Council, School of Life and Northamptonshire Community Foundation. Screen Northants worked with Northampton residents of all ages to produce the film alongside film professionals.

“CURFEW” (2016) - A group of young people need to get back home before dark... Produced with the help of Northampton Borough Council, Growing Together and BBC Children in Need. A group of young people not in mainstream education from Rushmere Academy produced the short with the help of film professionals. See Behind the Scenes.

“TIMETABLE” (2015) - A man is met with suspicion when he wants to catch the lesser known weekly night train to the coast. The short was produced to discuss historical and contemporary issues of persecution. Made in connection with Holocaust Memorial Day 2015. Behind the Scenes.
