The Schomberg Society was invited to have an Information Stand at a Veterans’ Roadshow which recently took place in Cookstown.

This was an excellent opportunity to engage with veterans, informing them of our various veterans outreach programmes and our many different Ulster-Scots activities and projects for veterans and their families to get involved in.

Well done to the new Veterans Commissioner and his team for organising a brilliant event - it was particularly pleasing to see those in attendance having such a great interest in Ulster-Scots! 👏

Thanks to our Highland Heathers Ladies Group for hosting a brilliant Ulster-Scots themed evening, which fitted in perfectly with our Rabbie Burns Festival! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

The ladies enjoyed coming together on Wednesday evening to create their own Ulster tweed brooch and also a Scottish tartan rose brooch! 🪡🧵

The group were even treated to some lovely scones and refreshments!

Thanks to The Highland Heathers for all of their efforts in organising fantastic events for local women! 👏

Our recently established Schomberg Boxing Club has today launched its Crowdfunder Campaign to help us raise much needed funds!

As a newly established Club which currently trains in Kilkeel High School, we are fundraising to purchase essential equipment and to support us with our new Boxing outreach programmes which will be delivered to local schools and within our local community! 🥊

This is an exciting new initiative which offers both adults and children an opportunity to engage in sport through the form of Boxing, helping improve both physical fitness and health and wellbeing.

Thanks to Sport NI who have kindly agreed to match every pound raised on our Crowdfunder campaign, up to £5,000! Your support is therefore crucial in helping develop our new Schomberg Boxing Club to meet the demand for our Boxing programmes!

During our Festivals this year, we’re very much looking forward to introducing Ulster-Scots music and dance to new places, and helping to bring our rich and vibrant culture to new people along the way!

Our Hairtlan Men’s Shed had an excellent Burns Supper yesterday afternoon in our Hairtlan Hub! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

It was great to work along with our Hairtlan Men’s Shed to include them for the first time in our Rabbie Burns Festival, which is taking place this week to celebrate the life and works of the great Scottish Bard, Robert Burns!

Thanks to Top Nosh for providing the meal for the men, who all had a most enjoyable time! 👏

As part of our Rabbie Burns Festival, we currently have a ‘Scottish Clans & Tartans’ Exhibition on display in the Gallery in Newcastle Library! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

The Exhibition is on display until Friday 31st January 2025 and is available for folk to view during the Library’s opening hours.

If your about Newcastle, make sure to take a wee skite in and check it out, and don’t forget to lift some of our Ulster-Scots Literature when your in!

We had a super time at our Ulster-Scots Arts and Crafts event for Weans this afternoon in our Hairtlan Hub! 🙌

The boys and girls enjoyed learning a wee bit about Rabbie Burns, the Ulster-Scots Language and also enjoying some Arts and Crafts! 🎨

Thanks to Diane from Top Nosh for coming along and making sure all of the children were well fed, and to Sarah for organising the Arts and Crafts activity! 👏

What an amazing night and a wonderful celebration of Rabbie Burns!

It was fantastic to see the Kilmorey Arms Hotel function room packed to capacity last night for our Annual Burns Night Celebrations! 🤩

The guests were treated to a showcase of the best of Ulster-Scots music, dance and culture!

The Schomberg Society is very proud of our own groups who were certainly the stars of the night! The crowd were treated to performances by our own Schomberg Academy Pipe Band, Schomberg Fife & Drum Band, Schomberg Fife & Lambeg Drumming Club, Kirknarra School of Dance, Singer Rachel Hutchinson, our young poets and of course our own Chairperson Gareth Crozier with his legendary ‘Address to the Haggis’!

Also included in the line-up were fantastic performers Singers Paul Elliott and Clara Wilson and of course Stonewall Folk Group to finish off the night! 🎶

The Schomberg Society would like to thank everyone who came along and supported us at our Burns Night, the Kilmorey Arms Hotel for their hospitality, The Highland Heathers Ladies Group for decorating the tables and all of our volunteers for helping make the night possible! 👏

It really is terrific to see the age-old tradition of celebrating Burns Night and our strong collections to Scottish culture remaining very much alive and vibrant here in the Kingdom of Mourne! 💪

We’re all set and ready to go for our big Burns Night event taking place tonight in the Kilmorey Arms Hotel, Kilkeel! 🙌

Can we please remind all guests that doors will be open from 6.30pm, all guests are to be seated for 7.15pm, with the event commencing at 7.30pm sharp.

Please remember, there will be a fundraiser during the night in aid of the newly formed Schomberg Boxing Club, if you would like to bring some money with you to donate! All support is greatly appreciated!

Please note, this event is admission strictly by ticket only.

It was great to have recently provided a music tuition programme in both Piping and Snare Drumming in Spa Primary School, just outside Ballynahinch.

Well done to all involved, it’s always fantastic to see children enjoying learning new musical skills in the field of Ulster-Scots! 🎶

Due to the red weather warning issued for tomorrow, we have taken the decision to cancel tomorrow’s After School Club Session that was due to take place in our Hairtlan Hub, Kilkeel.

The After School Club will be back on as normal from Friday 31st January! ✅

It was fantastic to see a ‘Celebration of Robert Burns & Ulster-Scots’ taking place today in the Great Hall, Stormont, which was hosted by The Speaker.

A special mention to the pupils of Derryboy Primary School for their fantastic renditions of Ulster-Scots Rhymes, Poetry and Song! 👏

The Schomberg Society looks forward to continuing to work with Derryboy Primary School to provide Ulster-Scots Music Tuition for their pupils in the coming weeks and months!

This will be taking place on Monday 27th January 2025 after school from 3.15pm-4.15pm in Tha Hairtlan Hub, Harbour Road, Kilkeel.

The event is for children Primary School age and a Hot Meal will be provided for all weans taking part.

This is a 𝗙𝗥𝗘𝗘 event, however, there is now only a limited number of spaces, which must be booked.
