The Podcast
One day, it was suggested by Rhys, from comedy Newport hip hop legends Goldie Lookin Chain, that his bandmate and Diverse Vinyl staff member Graham The Bear and friend/colleague/boss Matt Jarrett should make a podcast out of their love of music and rambling, easy going and sometimes odd conversations with one another.
It seemed like a great idea. They tried it and it seemed to go well. Twelve episodes were recorded before they all had holidays and stuff that meant they weren’t around. Now, they’re back and nobody has bothered working out how long it we can do it for this time!
The usual format is going over the week’s new vinyl releases in a pretty loose and lighthearted way. Sometimes we’ve had promos or a chance to listen to the albums so you’ll get a bit of actual insight, sometimes we haven’t so you’ll get guesswork or lies. There’ll almost certainly be mention of Bowie, Prince or Bush, partly because Graham loves all three and partly because they keep releasing things even though two of them are dead. Matt will shoehorn in some tuneful indie rock or emo, they’ll both talk about 80s pop music and usually Graham will randomly name the episode, often with a Cat in the title. Despite the fact that he owns the world’s smallest dog.
It’s all recorded in the Diverse Vinyl shop so there’s every possibility that customers will show up during recordings. Sometimes they just ignore the whole thing and buy stuff while the mics are on, sometimes they’re welcomed in as guests. It’s all good fun either way.
