🎉 VE Day 2025 - Street Parties 🎉
This year marks the 80th anniversary of VE Day, celebrating the end of WWII in Europe. Newport City Council is supporting local street parties on Bank Holiday Monday (5 May), just like we did for the Queen’s Jubilee and King’s Coronation.
🛣️ Applications for road closures will be considered based on safety and suitability. If approved, the council will cover the cost of essential traffic management measures.
📅 Deadline for applications: April 14, 2025.

ICYMI 👇

➡️ The biggest investment in Newport’s roads and pavements in more than a decade

➡️ Streetlights all over the city back on overnight

➡️ Cleaner, tidier streets across Newport with more money for street cleaning and grass cutting

Our budget proposals for Newport are all about those things that matter every day.

We can’t fix 14 years of damage caused by Tory austerity in one fell swoop, but thanks to the Labour government in Westminster and the Labour government in Cardiff, we can make a strong start in 2025.

📣BREAKING NEWS! 📣

Between July and December, crime across Newport reduced by 18% – don’t just take our word for it! This was announced by Superintendent White at full council just a few minutes ago.

These statistics include:

✅ A 47% reduction in shoplifting
✅ Anti-social behaviour down in the city centre, Alway, Pill, and Bettws since November
✅ A significant reduction in robberies
✅ Burglaries and commercial burglaries below average

We’re listening!

One of the things our councillors hear about most from residents is the need for more street cleansing and more grass cutting.

That’s why we’re proposing to increase the budget for these services by £370,000 in the next budget. With this money, we’ll set up a response squad to help keep the city tidier.

The consultation for the 2025/26 budget is open now. To have your voice heard, take part - comments left here (or anywhere else on socials)don’t get included.
