We’re listening!

One of the things our councillors hear about most from residents is the need for more street cleansing and more grass cutting.

That’s why we’re proposing to increase the budget for these services by £370,000 in the next budget. With this money, we’ll set up a response squad to help keep the city tidier.

The consultation for the 2025/26 budget is open now. To have your voice heard, take part - comments left here (or anywhere else on socials)don’t get included.

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board are currently starting to develop a 10-year plan for healthcare in Gwent. They write-

"We recognise we don’t have all the solutions to improve our healthcare system – and we need your help and input to understand what areas we need to focus on.
We want people to live as long as possible in good health, but sadly we know this isn’t the reality across all of Gwent. For example, the average healthy life expectancy of women living in Blaenau Gwent is just 55.3 years, whereas in Monmouthshire it is 69.3 years. This inequality, and the effects of the pandemic have made this worse for our population – but together we can change that.” go to https://abuhb.nhs.wales/about-us/10-year-plan/

Malpas councillors have had a lot of queries about grass cutting schedules for Claremont and Pilton Vale. The grass verges are scheduled for mowing/cutting this month. NCC doesn’t mow during May and when June comes the teams catch up on all of the outstanding areas. It takes a little while to follow this up across the whole of Newport but officers have confirmed that the verges are scheduled for mowing in the next two weeks, weather permitting.
We’ll be getting back to everyone who has queried this individually too.

There have also been concerns expressed around any potential development of these verges. There are no plans for this.
