Hidden camera uncovers exploitation and pressure-selling
Today we expose the disgraceful inner workings of a direct sales firm in Cardiff whose workers go door to door trying to persuade people to set up direct debits to UK charities.
Wearing a hidden camera we gathered evidence of lies, pressure-selling and a network of linked offices around the UK which has left one of those charities appalled, an MP shocked, a fundraising firm describing the footage as “unbelievable” and a regulator saying it is assessing our evidence.
We uncovered:
🟠 Lies and pressure-selling on doorsteps to get people to sign up to direct debit payments to charities
🟠 A pensioner having to insist four times that she doesn’t want to sign up before a sales rep stops persisting
🟠 An attempt to sign up another elderly woman who is clearly confused and giving answers that do not correspond to the seller’s questions.
🟠 New recruits being told to “trick” people in doorstep pitches for charity sign-ups
🟠 Job adverts with empty promises of minimum salaries placed by a sales operation that falsely claims to have represented household-name firms
🟠 New starters being advised to spend less time with their families
🟠 An "appalled" charity will investigate every donation as a result of our footage.

This is a Newport girl’s priceless reaction when she visited the beach for the first time in a decade. 14-year-old Olivia Robinson was diagnosed with cerebral palsy as a toddler and is a full-time wheelchair user.
Ever since her diagnosis Olivia had been unable to go to a beach because her wheelchair couldn’t be pushed along the sand. But after thousands were raised through children's charity Children Today to buy her an all-terrain chair, Olivia has visited Porthcawl, the first beach she’s been to in well over ten years!
“As a child, Olivia always loved the beach, but as she got older it almost seemed unfair taking her to the seaside as she wanted to be able to go on the beach and enjoy playing like all the other children,” Olivia's dad Daniel said. "But anyone who’s ever tried to push a wheelchair over sand will know how hard it is.
“Now she can go right up to the water’s edge and she’s completely in control of herself, she doesn’t even need our help. I’ve lost count of how many times we’ve visited the coast since she’s had the new wheelchair. I honestly can’t tell you how much joy the sound of her giggling away as she whizzes along the beach brings me.” ❤️
