Local Labour Leader announces war on flytipping after figures skyrocketed 76% across Northumberland since the Conservatives took control of the County Council in 2017.
This means more white goods, vehicle parts and discarded construction waste strewn across the streets of Northumberland.
At the same time, enforcement actions against waste criminals have plummeted. 24% fewer actions were taken in Northumberland, leaving waste criminals to go unpunished, and public money being spent to clear up the mess.
In light of these shocking statistics, Scott Dickinson MBE, the leader of the Labour group on Northumberland County Council, is calling for urgent action to clean up the streets of Northumberland.
“I want to make Northumberland one of the best places to grow up and grow old in, but fly-tipping is a major problem and has been ignored for too long by people who just don’t care.
Residents around here are sick of our streets being plagued by discarded rubbish and waste and it is a disgrace that the Conservatives have done nothing to tackle it. It’s gone unpunished for far too long.
I know from speaking to residents they want a council who can get the job done and deliver from day one.
That’s why I’m standing up for change and calling on the Labour government to crack down and punish waste cowboys, tackle the scourge of waste crime, and tell those who disrespect our area where to go.”
The Labour Government has taken swift action to tackle antisocial behaviour, including new Respect Orders for repeat adult offenders, through its Plan for Change.
