NUTV - Newcastle’s Student TV station
Run by students for students.
NUTV first broadcast as Newcastle Union (Society) TV on the 3rd March 2007. They spent their first year loosely covering the student elections. After a couple of broadcasts in the next few years (including a news episode, coverage of society and sport events, food, and a video called ‘Solution’ which provides a fascinating insight into Mensbar pre-2010 renovations), NUTV briefly subsided before being reestablished as The Courier TV post-Union renovations in 2010.
TCTV continued to grow over the next few years, establishing its flagship show Bigg Market Banter, where presenters venture into the Toon during a night out and film the antics of student clubbing. After a couple of years of one-off productions, in 2012, under the leadership of Station Manager Steph Booth and Secretary Emma Oulton, TCTV begun to produce series, providing coverage of NUSU’s Take Me Out, sports show Swap the Sport, cook show The Unmastered Art of Baking and current affairs talk show Core.
TCTV also provided NUSU’s media coverage for Freshers’ Week, producing annual content showcasing the activities and events held every year. In 2016, under the production leadership of Haaris Qureshi, TCTV again made the next steps and moved into producing fully serialised content with each show having a dedicated executive producer and team. The station reestablished itself as NUTV once again, almost exactly ten years after it was first formed as such, and many more shows were formed, including regular Coffee House Sessions coverage, arts talk show T00nVision, student music showcase Student Sessions, topical affairs program Student Voice, a collaboration with the Fashion section of the Courier and multiple food programs.
