Spreading joy on a Monday morning 🎶
Contemporary folk band, Amble, made an impromptu pitstop in Amble, Northumberland, and I think it’s fair to say the lucky locals were right behind them.

A magical journey through the Twelve Days of Christmas, it features five spectacular golden rings, plenty of lords a-leaping, graceful swans a-swimming, and even an appearance from the jolly man himself.

Pull on your wellies and grab a wheelbarrow, it’s PYO pumpkin season!
With rows upon rows of plump orange pumpkins – as well as carving competitions, family tractor rides, spooky trails and mulled cider stands – these are the best pumpkin patches to visit this month across the North East and Yorkshire.
🎃 Spilmans, Thirsk
Boasting a 10-acre patch and 125,000 pumpkins, Spilmans Pumpkin Festival is one of the biggest in the region. There’s marshmallow toasting, corn cannons and tractor rides, too.
🎃 Piglets Adventure Farm, York
Prepare for a spooktacular family day out at Piglets Adventure Farm, with a sprawling pumpkin patch, petrifying portraits pop-up, smoke-breathing dragon show and spooky craft tipi.
🎃 Brocksbushes Farm Shop, Northumberland
PYO Pumpkin is back at Brocksbushes. Grab a wheelbarrow, find your perfect pumpkin and get to work in the carving marquee (leaving all the mess behind).
🎃 Farmer Copley’s, Pontefract
With more than 250,000 pumpkins to choose from, it’s no wonder Farmer Copley’s Pumpkin Experience is so popular. There are tractor rides, daily fancy dress competitions and live music shows, too.
🎃 Birchfield Family Dairies, Harrogate
Grab your wellies and a wheelbarrow to explore Birchfield Farm’s Pumpkin Festival. Once you’ve chosen from the patch, let your imagination run wild in the carving barn (before feeding the pumpkin flesh to the hungry pigs in the farm yard!).
🎃 East Grange, Durham
With more than 50,000 pumpkins spread over 20 acres and mini wheelbarrows for little ones, this is the perfect autumnal day out for the whole family.
🎃 The Pumpkin Patch at Bewholme, East Yorkshire
Get into the autumn spirit at The Pumpkin Patch. Let them take care of the mess by booking a Pumpkin Carving Experience, taking home your masterpiece and a carving kit, too.

The Sandy Bottom Pumpkin Patch features a 1.5 acre ‘Amaize Maze’ and more than 75,000 pumpkin
Barter Books is one of the largest (and loveliest) second-hand bookstores in Britain. Located in the heart of Alnwick, Northumberland, this converted Victorian railway station first opened its doors in 1991.
As the name suggests, Barter Books offers bookworms the chance to exchange old books for store credit to buy new books. Inside, you’ll find cosy nooks for reading, crackling fires, a Station Room café serving tea and cake, and a model railway trundling over the shelves.
Did you know Barter Books is also famous for its role in rediscovering the “Keep Calm and Carry On” poster? In 2000, an original copy of the now-iconic World War II poster was found among a box of old books, and Barter Books went on to reprint and popularise the design.

Set in the heart of Cragside, Nelly’s Moss lakes walk is one of our favourite family-friendly walks in Northumberland.
Begin at Crozier Car Park (NE63 7XJ) and follow the blue waymarkers to complete the 2.4km trail. Along the way, you’ll experience the unspoilt beauty of the estate’s rich natural landscape, from dense woodland to clear, shimmering lakes, which were originally engineered by Lord Armstrong as part of his pioneering hydro-electricity system.
The path is easy to follow with gentle inclines, making it perfect for prams. Four-legged friends are welcome, but must be kept on leads to protect the native wildlife.
On return to the car park, there’s a nearby café serving everything from hot coffee to ice cream, plus an adventure play area for tiring out little ones.
