My Hospital Experience in the UK 🇬🇧

So guys, like I always say, I will keep sharing my experiences in this country, both good and unpleasant ones, so you have an idea of what to expect and tips on how to navigate as a new immigrant.

Since coming to the UK, I’ve had to visit the emergency department multiple times.

First time was when I was just 2 months pregnant. I fell down the stairs at home and started bleeding 🩸. I couldn’t even feel any pregnancy symptoms again! I rushed myself to A&E, and thankfully, they attended to me almost immediately. After an ultrasound and some checks, they confirmed my baby was fine and sent me home.

Second time was at 7 months pregnant. A service user I was caring for suddenly hit me directly on my belly 😳. I blacked out immediately! Ambulance was called, my husband was called, my company coordinator came around, and I was rushed to A&E. They wasted no time and took me straight to the maternity ward for observation.

Third time was just 14 days postpartum. My C-section wound got infected, and the pain was unbearable 😫. Ambulance picked me up again, and I was quickly transferred to the maternity ward for treatment.

Now yesterday was my fourth visit, and omo! This one was DIFFERENT! 🤦🏽‍♀️

I had passed out at home, was in severe pain, shivering like crazy, yet feeling so hot at the same time. My husband rushed me to A&E, explaining everything to them. But guess what, they said “The waiting time is at least 2 hours” 😭😭😭. My husband even begged that I was in severe pain, but they said since I was still conscious and breathing, I had to wait till it was my turn! According to them they are giving priority to those with life threatening conditions.

Well, we had no choice than to wait, 2 hours turned into 4 whole hours!😩

Another surprising thing was that the doctor said my condition was due to a viral infection (flu). I asked for antibiotics, and they said NO, that antibiotics are only for bacterial infections and that I should just take paracetamol. I literally shouted Paracetamol again?? 😩 he said yes, and that I should take it and rest and within 1–7 days, I’d be fine.

But on a more serious note, Why is the wait so long in A&E? Are they understaffed? Is it because the NHS is free? 🤔 honestly, Whatever the reason, I think it is unfair for someone in pain to wait that long in an EMERGENCY department!

Today, a family friend told my husband that next time (God forbid 🙏🏽), we should first go to a walk-in centre. Apparently, once the walk in centre refer you to A&E, you get attended to faster. But if you go straight to A&E on your own and you’re still breathing, you will wait however long they say. 🤦🏽‍♀️

Anyway, my people, this is another side of the UK healthcare system you need to be aware of. My prayer is that you don’t fall sick, but if you do, try a walk-in centre first to reduce your waiting time.

For those coming here for school or any other reason, abeg, carry malaria medicine and antibiotics with you o! Because here, na so so paracetamol them go give you for almost everything! 😅

To my fellow UK people, Has anyone else experienced long A&E wait times? How long did it take before they attended to you? Also, for those in Nigeria, does this kind of delay happen in government hospitals too? I have always used private hospital in Nigeria and I have never waited this long to be seen by a doctor.

Let’s talk!

This life nothing Dey inside o, no carry person for mind, as much as you can do good to every man, do not discriminate, life is too short, one moment someone is healthy the next minute the person is lieing down in the hospital.

This was how I ended up sleeping in the hospital yesterday. I feel good and then next I see I am on the ground, unconscious, ThankGod Honeyberry was at home, the ambulance was immediately called and long story short I found myself in the emergency department.

It was not funny, apparently it was stress couple with the fact that I have a viral infection which according to the doctor is a contagious flu. My temperature was over the roof, about 39.60 which probably what led to me collapsing.

I am just grateful to God that he save me, most time we might think we are so strong and healthy but sometime just visit the hospital or your GP for a routine check up, and always listen to your body, no do pass yourself.

Me that don’t even do over time and only work 4 days, I am having stress not to talk of people who week by week don’t even have anytime for themselves. Please in as much as you are looking for money always listen to your body. Life na jeje.

I am on bed rest for atleast 72 hours and watch myself and now I am away from my children as I would not want to infect them with the flu, I am practically putting nose mask at home.

I pray for quick recovery, this post is intended to remind you to observe your body and visit the doctor for a routine checkup, don’t take your health for granted.

Bad experience in the UK Number 2 😩😜😫

So Before moving to the UK we were staying in a 3 bedroom apartment all en-suit with a very spacious kitchen in Nigeria, it was very comfortable and then fast forward to when we moved to the UK and started looking for a house.

The first house viewing we went, we had to pass through the kitchen before going to the toilet 😳, we did not even waste much time I just said no we can’t take the house😁😆 little did I know that almost 70% of the houses are built that way, we finally settled for one of the houses like that😟☹️ and till today no one has been able to explain to me the reason why they built their house this way.

Another thing I still can’t understand is that fact that they install bedroom doors without any inside lock, like you can’t lock the bedroom door either from inside or outside, only the main entrance door to the house has a lock and maybe the toilet.

I mean what if I want to do Mama and Papa something and my child just badge into the room🤣🤣🤣 I mean that’s how our daughter enters our room😂😂, she will just opens the door and enter without knocking. Is not funny o,

Please my UK people anyone with answers to why bedroom doors don’t have lock from inside should educate us because I still don’t know why their houses are built this way.

Whenever I think of the UK house structure, it makes me miss Nigeria houses, honestly we have better houses in Nija, in Nija you will see big houses, spacious kitchen and big bedrooms which are mostly en-suite with visitor toilet, the reverse is the case here in the UK.

Small bedroom everywhere which are very expensive. The one I still can not understand is why they will make the rooms very small and the garden will be so spacious and I am wondering 🤔 why make garden spacious and the rooms this tiny.

This is one unpleasant experience I have experienced since moving to the UK, although this experience is not enough to make me say the UK is bad or to move back to my home country but it would be nice for anyone with answer or who can throw more light to why the houses are built in this manner, as it will help to educate us, because I am sure I can not be the only one who has been wondering about this🤷🤷

No Jobs in the UK, how true is that🙄😧😧 let’s find out👇👇👇

Guys there are jobs in the UK, base on personal experience I can tell you that there are jobs, again it all depends on the job you are looking for.

One major reason why some people in the UK are telling that they can’t find jobs are as follows:

1. Depend on the type of visa they currently hold, so some people come over here with visit visa and expect to get a job, anty and uncle no body will hire you, is called a visit visa for a reason, there are some who still decides to jama the thing and for some reason things are not going as planned then they come and say no job for UK.

2. If you decide to come here with a care visa where the company sponsoring you don’t have work for you but just for you to come in with the intention of looking for another job that will change your visa for you, hmmm anty and uncle I laugh you in Swahili 🤣😂🤣😜🤪 infact frustrate go be your second name because imagine being in the UK without a job and you have bills to pay, these set of people will also come out and say job no Dey. See most employers find it difficult to employ anyone who is already on a sponsorship visa. Some people do succeed in changing the visa but after much shege, ask those who came through this route they will tell you, some could not continue the shege and went back home. I know a few of this set of people

3. Those looking for job with sponsorship, example are student looking to change their visa to a work visa after school or those who change to post study and are now looking to change to a work visa. Now this is one serious challenge we can all agree that a majority of immigrants are facing, also it depends on the kind of job you are looking for, is actually a bit easier to get a care job with sponsorship compared to to getting a professional career job with sponsorship, again this is the one major reason why you see people deciding to be a support or care assistant because is a bit easy to get, most don’t really enjoy doing it because it comes with some challenges.

Me particularly I have applied for several jobs relating to Business analyst but when I get to interview and if they ask if I need sponsorship and I say yes they tell me that they can’t offer at the moment and most are not even ready to take you as part time.

So the narrative of no job in the UK is not ENTIRELY correct, because I can bet you that if you want to look for a job without needing sponsorship is just a matter of time, working on your licence if needed and looking for other method of gaining industry experience, then you will get it.

Now this is not to say everyone does care job no, there are people who were lucky to get career jobs with sponsorship, but if you don’t fall into that category like me, anty and uncle dust your high heel and keep moving, let’s do our care job together after 5 years we go start from where we stop.

To me I don’t think this is much of a sacrifice to do for your family and most importantly for your children’s future. 5 years is no joke I know, that’s why I say come to the UK with an open mind. Not with ridiculous expectations.

I will explain more better on how some people are navigating, the mistakes some are making and with the help of God and the right positive attitude you won’t struggle much to adjust.

Oya o my fellow Nigerians in the UK na true be this Abi na lie? Make Una talk now o, Una want me to share, I don share, Oya make Una try answer yes or no.

UK NO GOOD, YET PEOPLE DEY BUY HOUSE UP AND DOWN! 🤪😂

My people, let’s be real—this UK is not for everybody. Some people back home are making millions, living comfortably with their own houses, staff, and no safety worries. If they leave all that luxury to come here, adjusting will be REAL STRUGGLE because here, na you go do everything yourself!

Life is about adjustment! You can’t move to a new country and expect things to be the same as back home. Even in Nigeria, how many years did it take to build your career? How long from university to NYSC before you got a job (if you were even lucky to get one)? Some graduates back home are still job hunting, struggling for three square meals, yet some of you privileged to be here still say UK no good?

Let’s face facts: Life is hard everywhere, but you must make it work! Nigerians in the UK are buying houses, those who aren’t are bringing family over, and setting up investments back home— is rhat not PROGRESS enough! 🙄🙄 Many who arrived just 3-4 years ago—students, couples—have either bought a house, are in the process of buying one, or are saving for one. So please tell me, how is the UK bad when people are moving forward positively?

Even cleaners and support workers dey buy house here. It’s all about planning and financial discipline. A mortgage needs at least a 10% deposit—for example, in Newcastle, a 3-bedroom house might cost £200,000, meaning you need £20,000 upfront. Many people who came just 3-4 years ago have already sorted this while still paying their bills monthly. And those yet to buy? They are handling other priorities, not that they can’t afford it.

Meanwhile, back home, ask a cleaner or teacher if they can buy a decent house. Even if they can, how many years will it take? Some top-degree holders in Nigeria earn ₦250k or less, teachers earn ₦100k or less, and for many, owning a home is not even a thought—it’s survival first! But here, with proper planning, even as a cleaner, support worker, or teaching assistant, you can own a home within a few years!

I still love this country regardless of what anyone says because, despite the struggles, they make life easier for residents. My advice? In your first five years, drop high expectations and embrace reality. Some people land professional jobs early, but if that’s not you, start somewhere! Plan well, and within five years, you’ll have direction.

Bottom line: If you want to move, do so with an open mind. UK may not be perfect, but it is better than where I came from. Hope you get my point! 🚀

Una good afternoon o😁😍😉

This is the face I am using to look at all those Nigerians based in UK that are in my post saying tell them the truth about the unpleasant experiences too, those saying UK is not as I am painting it to be.

Anty and uncle come closer let me ask you a question, if UK is very bad, and life here is so miserable then what are you still doing in this the same UK that you want me to say is bad.

Brother and sister if the UK is so bad why have you not gone back to your home country, I mean there is no place like home Abi is it not so?🙄😉

My people please do not let anyone deceive you oo, if you want to come, carry your bag start to come, the fact that some people experience some bad stuff does not mean everybody must experience it.

Uk is good I say it with my full chest.

I enjoy more peace of mind, I can comfortably help my family back home and support hugely without fear of where the next meal will come from.

If the place too bad abeg comot make others enter, is very simple

Title: UK Sweet But Na Childcare Spoil Am 😜😩😫🤪

I read a post about a lady in Canada who relocated back to Nigeria because of childcare stress, and I thought to share my own schedule so people understand how childcare in the UK is no joke. Yes, the UK is sweet, but childcare can frustrate you to the point of giving up.

Both my husband and I work full-time. For those saying one person should work part-time, it’s only feasible if the full-time earner makes over £4,000 monthly and expenses stay under £2,000. Between bills, savings, and mortgage, that’s rare.

My schedule is 4 days a week, often from 6:45am to 9pm. My husband works 6:30pm to 5am and sometimes gets home by 7am if he doesn’t drive. That’s why we bought a second car—so he gets home by 6:30am, allowing me to leave for work on time. After his night shift, he’ll rest for just an hour, then wake our 6-year-old, bathe, feed, and take her to school. He also drops off our 1-year-old at daycare by 8:40am, which isn’t cheap.

Some say he should stay home with the baby to save money, but let’s be real—after working all night, he needs rest. A baby will disturb him, and by 6pm, he’s back to work. The only option is daycare. He picks up our daughter from school at 3:20pm, feeds her, then drops her at the childminder before work. I pick them up after I close at 9pm.

To reduce costs, he stays home 2 days a week while I work, so the kids only go to the childminder twice a week. Even with that, it’s still stressful and expensive. For sanity, we both stick to 4 workdays, no overtime, to focus on ourselves and the family.

Childcare here is draining, and that’s why many British people choose not to have kids. It can cause stress in marriages if not handled well. My point isn’t to discourage anyone but to prepare you, especially parents. Bringing your mum might help, but after 6 months, she must leave, and you’re back to square one.

My advise will be for you to Push through—this childcare issue won’t last forever. Like I said, UK sweet, but na childcare spoil am 🤩🤣🤪.

19/02/2025

So today I had something doing for my friend who intend coming for her studies over here and I visited the school on her behalf. And yes I graduated from this same university- Northumbria University Newcastle 🤩🤩🤩

The last time I was here was during my graduation and I was heavy pregnant 🤰 then, I decided to roam around a little and see if anything has change, I did some videos and I will upload them later so you have a view of what the university looks like for those who are considering coming over this summer for studies 😁😍

Trust me you will love this school 🤪🤣😂 that’s for those who like book well well oo😂🤣😂

Anyway this pics was taken by a random stranger I just saw them walking 🚶‍♀️ and I politely ask if them can take me some pics which they happily did, there was no fear of any kind if they will run with my phone 😜🤩😂 that’s another peak of living in the UK.

I also did a TikTok video somewhere in the school and no body even send my papa🤣🤩🤣 them just they give me space, minding their business and going their way 🤪🤣😂

That’s another thing I need to tell you guys about oo, in this country the mind of business too much, I have lived in my house for over 2 years and I don’t even know the name of my neighbour in fact I don’t know where they are from some are black and some are light skin infact if I see them for road I will pass them not knowing we are neighbours 🤣😂😂 so if you don’t know how to mind your business and you intend coming over here, start now begin learn to mind your business oo, because you will really need it.

Anyway make I stop here for now, Una good afternoon o.

So I see that my tips are really adding value to some people as such I will continue dropping them for you guys 😁😃😀

someone asked on my previous post if one can use international license to drive once they come to the UK and here is my answer, I am making it as a post so that everyone can benefit, these are tips that will help you navigate the UK when you get here.

Once you come into the UK you are allowed to drive in the country with your International license pending when you get your Full UK driving licence.

The expired licence on this picture is mine, so we came into the UK September 2022 and I started driving February 2023 using my international driving license and this license is acceptable in the UK, even if the police stops you and you show them your international license provided is still within one year of you being in the UK they won’t do anything.

I actually forgot to get my international driving license from Nigeria before travelling to the UK as such when I got to the UK I applied online via the international driving license website for mine, it took less than 2 weeks to get to my address, but you must have your driving license from your home country before you can apply. On the 3rd slide you will see the price tag for applying for it depending on how many years you want the license to be valid for. As for me I only apply for one year validity because I only can use it legally for only one year so no need to waste money on more than one year and I did both the digital printout.

However those who applied for their international license from Nigeria before coming did not even do it for more than 25,000 Naira so you can see the difference.

Is very stressful moving around with children especially in the winter where you have to stand outside waiting for bus or if you are in domicilary care and you have to walk althrough hmm na very suffer be that so to ease my movement I already planed on driving immediately I get to the UK, which was why I did it. Don’t ask me how I started driving nearly 5 months of coming to the uk 😂😅😁 that one na another story I will tell you how I did it so that someone who has mind 😜🤪 can follow my footstep.

Anyway let me stop here, hope you get one or two from here, if you want me to gist you about any tips just comment below and I go gist you sharp sharp 😜🤪😂 tips like this helps new immigrants and intending immigrants to navigate with out much stress, so if you have a tip to add just comment below 👇

18/02/2025

So I will be sharing some things that made me love this Country, just to keep giving someone a reason to start planning their japa journey 😁😊😉

One major win that everyone literally celebrate in the UK is having a Full UK driving licence, a UK full driving licence is like another certificate everyone literally fights to add to their portfolio 😅

But to get this licence is no joke, you have to intentionally prepare to pass the theory test and then get properly trained to pass the practical. Even with proper preparation people spend months attempting the theory or practical and failing severally😫😫 as for me I register for the theory 3 different time and the practical 4 different times before passing 😁😄😃

Honestly, We literally celebrate anyone who pass and get their driving licence, compare to my country of Origin, most people I know of don’t even attend driving school and the next thing they are on the road driving, most don’t even have a license but they still drive on the road.

Getting a car over here is not an issue but getting the license to drive is the major issue, because with as little as £1500 you can get a car but na license to drive be the main issue 😂😄

Over here in the UK you dare not drive on the road when you don’t have a driving license in fact, is a criminal offence which could tarnish one’s DBS and prevent you from getting certain jobs in the future.

Over here you hardly see police stopping driver unnecessarily but once you you mistakenly drive anyhow the next minute police will stop you to check if you have your license or just to enquire to know exactly why you drove the way you did.

Another thing you dare not do is to drink alcohol and drive, that one is straight criminal offence and your licence can even be revoked and you also pay some fine, no one will want to take such risk.

If you are caught driving without a licence you get some point on the license you don’t have yet😂😂 and also get a fine, even if you have a provisional license and you are caught driving alone without someone who has a full licence hmm first thing is your car get emband and you also get some point for driving without a license as such is just better not to even take those risks.

Over here if you hit a car or someone hit yours, the both of you will immediately call the police and exchange details so whoever car is hit will call the insurance company of the other and the insurance takes care of the damage. Is as easy as that no too much stress.

We all have stories to tell on how we successfully pass and got our license, ask anyone in the UK they will tell you is not an easy achievement. So people, lets share how easy it is to get a driving license in your area so we learn together😁☺️

Meanwhile this pics was when I and Honeyberry passed and got our Full UK driving license, the joy was obvious 🤩😁😄😃

17/02/2025

One of the best decisions we ever made as a family was to relocate to the UK.

This single decision was an escape for us, things became a lot easier, we tend to worry less over things as normal things that could make one worry unnecessarily was no longer there.

We worry less over money, the truth is that we have never been the type that look for too much money 😜🤪 so provided we have enough to sustain our daily lives and support our families back home we are okay.

No much stress of thinking of how to get money for school fees every 3 months or getting worried over hospital bills when your child falls sick.

Over here school fees and hospitals bills issue is being taken care of by the government. I don’t even worry about lunch for my child because she gets her lunch from the school during break.

As for work, as long as you are not lazy you will get something to do, even if is not professional (as in your career job ) but you will definitely get something doing. The good thing about their job is that they pay you per hour even if is cleaning job or care job you get paid per hour and with proper planning you can live a very comfortable life, buy house, buy car, assist family back home without much stress-and could literally do whatever you want to do.

Since we came over here nothing like up Nepa because their electricity has never gone off by mistake before except you decide to off your light 🤓🤩.

Lastly is their security system, I swear you can’t commit any crime and go free, you will be caught, like you can literally move around even at night and be rest assured that you will be safe.

As for their road 🛣️ is so well planned no much pot holes 😜🤪 and if your family member is travelling it won’t necessarily turn to prayer point for safe travel against robbers or bandits or boko haram. Trust me when you are in a country some prayers becomes unnecessary. You channel the time to pray for something else.

Well my main point of this write up is that if you have an opportunity to travel especially if things are not working too well for you in your home country please don’t think two times about it, jump on that opportunity, that single act could be the saving grace of your family at large.

As for me and my family we are living our best lives over here, and this is just the beginning of greater things God will use us to accomplish in this country, we are still trying to get our feet but we are not doing badly either and I am sure we will get there soon.

This weight loss journey is not for the week o, so I have been on mounjaro today making it 2 weeks and so far I have only lost about 5kg which is not too bad.

However I wanted to be more intentional about it so I went to buy food scale so I can be measuring the amount of food I take in daily as I have to be on calorie deficit

Anyway my people today is Monday the start of my third week of mounjaro and I will be taking measurements of my food.

This is my first meal for today and together with my protein is 337g 😋😋

God should help all the people on weight loss journey because is not easy at all😎

So today Adesuwa said she wanted to have a family movie night 🥰😍😘 it felt so sweet to hear her say such, something I was not even thinking of, so Immediately I called Honeyberry and we set out to get some popcorns and soda for our movie night.

Trust me the feeling of being locked in your home with your family to bond and have some fun is indescribable, you laugh and smile while seeing the movie, these are lovely memories you and your children will keep cherishing for years to come.

Instead of going out as a man to spend time drinking outside almost all the time, try doing this with your family, and the good thing is that you don’t spend much to do this at home, this will help you bond with your spouse and children.

Let’s all learn to create our own fun, there is nothing wrong in going out, but make sure you incorporate home time fun, like movie night, game time, this helps to make your home a haven for your spouse and children, your home should be a place of peace and fun 🤩.

As for us we have decided to be having movie night like this every Sunday or Saturday.

Meanwhile the title of the movie we watched is Shreek 1 & 2

Happy Sunday my people, I say let me greet you guys, hope you are going to church
