Yesterday morning I borrowed my daughter’s guinea pig Christmas jumper and reindeer antlers for The Athena Network’s Festive Nifty Networking 🎄

It was such a good 2 hours - fast paced breakout rooms, lots of chances to practise our one minute pitch, a festive networking quiz and some really useful business tips.

My favourite tips:

✨ choose 5 people you can follow up with properly
✨ think about a small festive offer you can share
✨ treat networking as a way to build real relationships, not just swap details

I’ve spoken to many business owners who feel overwhelmed by everything they’ve seen about Instagram Reels.

I often hear things like, “Do I need to do all that fancy editing?” or “I can’t keep up with these trends.” And I get it. A lot of the content out there makes Reels look far more complicated and time-consuming than they really need to be.

For introverts especially, that kind of pressure creates a barrier straight away. If the process feels too technical or too performance-led, it’s natural to put it off.

Reels become easier when you have a simple process and a clear purpose for each one. You don’t need fancy edits or to keep up with trends, you just need a way of making Reels that fits how you like to work.

If you’ve been wanting to feel more visible on Instagram but all the usual advice doesn’t fit your personality or how you work, here’s what I say to my clients who felt the same way.

You don’t need high-energy videos.

You don’t have to be front and centre in every post.

And you definitely don’t need to share things that feel too personal.

Visibility can grow from simple, manageable steps.

It can fit around your personality and your pace.

It can build from choices that make sense for you rather than pressure from the platform.

Your voice is still your voice, even if you prefer a quieter approach.

And people notice when you share in a way that feels natural to you.

Things began to get easier when I started asking:

“How can I do this in a way that feels comfortable for me?”

This took the pressure off and allowed me to share Reels in a way that aligned with my energy and values.

If Reels feel overwhelming or uncomfortable, it doesn’t mean you’re not ready or that you’re doing them wrong.

It often just means the approach you’ve been shown wasn’t built with you in mind.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been paying closer attention to the Reels I see when I’m scrolling Instagram.

And a few things keep standing out.

So many business owners are doing the hard part - they’re creating. Some are speaking on camera (which I know can take a lot of courage for some people), while others are using simple clips from their day or that represent their work.

It is lovely to see people putting themselves and their work out there - I love seeing the faces behind the businesses!

And most of the Reels I come across have a strong idea and message behind them.

But they're missing a few small details that mean the message doesn’t land as clearly as it could:

→ no on-screen hook to capture attention or guide the viewer
→ text placed outside the 'safe-zones' that gets cut off
→ captions that repeat what’s already on the video

Thes are just small adjustments that would help the right people notice them more easily.

Because the Reels are good. These tweaks just help them work even better.

For a long time, I kept putting off Reels without fully understanding why.

I thought I needed to feel more confident or look a certain way.

But the real issue wasn’t confidence, it was the process.

I was trying to create Reels in ways that didn’t suit me. Approaches that felt rushed and performative, or built for someone with a completely different personality.

And because it didn’t feel natural, it felt uncomfortable. So I avoided it.

Things changed when I stopped trying to create Reels in a way that didn’t feel natural, and focused on a calmer process instead.

✨ Shorter, simpler clips.

✨ Ideas that felt natural.

✨ A clear purpose behind each one.

Now Reels feel easier, and they support my business instead of adding pressure.

When I first started using Instagram for my business, I thought being consistent meant posting every day.

If I hadn’t shared something by the evening, I’d rush to put a post together, just so I had posted something.

Now, consistency looks completely different.

It’s not about how often I post, it’s about having a clear focus.

Knowing what I’m sharing, why it matters and how it connects back to my offers.

When your content has a clear purpose, you don’t need to be online every day for it to work.

You can create less, but connect more.

You can post calmly and still see results.

That’s what having direction gives you - confidence, ease and a way of showing up that actually fits how you work.
