Do you sometimes find yourself staring at a blank screen, second-guessing every idea until you talk yourself out of posting? Yep I’ve been there.

But some of my best posts weren’t the ones I overthought, they were the ones I kept simple and just hit ‘share.’

If you’re feeling stuck, here are four content ideas to make posting easier:

✨ A question you’ve been asked recently - if one person is asking, others are probably wondering too.

✨ A personal experience or lesson - real stories create real connections.

✨ Repurpose an old post - put a fresh spin on it or just repost it. Most people won’t remember what you shared six months ago. If it was helpful then, it’s still helpful now.

✨ A small moment from your day - everyday experiences are often the most relatable content.

The more you simplify your content process, the easier it gets. Your audience doesn’t need perfect, they just want to hear from you.

Struggling to connect with your ideal clients on Instagram? These 5 shifts made all the difference for me.

I used to feel like I was doing everything right on Instagram - following the advice, staying consistent, trying to keep up.

But I still wasn’t seeing the results I wanted.

Looking back, I can see exactly what was holding me back. And I know I’m not the only one, many business owners have told me they’ve faced these same challenges, too

Here are 5 things I did that made Instagram harder than it needed to be:
❌ Trying to talk to everyone instead of getting clear on who I wanted to reach
❌ Focusing on follower count instead of real engagement and connection
❌ Avoiding showing up as myself because I worried about judgment
❌ Jumping on trends without a clear strategy
❌ Trying to follow all the advice instead of doing what worked for me

Once I shifted my approach and started focusing on what actually mattered - connection, intentional content, and a strategy that fit my energy - everything changed.

If Instagram feels frustrating, it’s not you, it’s just time for a different approach.

Swipe through to see these 5 mistakes in detail (so you don’t have to make them, too!).

And if you’re ready to simplify Instagram and make it work for you, I have space for 2 new clients this month.

Is Instagram taking over your life? Let’s talk about making it simpler.

Running a business is already a lot. Add Instagram to the mix, and it’s easy to feel stretched. Content creation, engagement, strategy... it’s a lot to manage when you’re already juggling so much.

If any of this feels familiar:

👉 You feel overwhelmed every time you think about Instagram.
👉 You’re overthinking every post, wondering if it’s “good enough.”
👉 Constant engagement feels exhausting...

It might be time to explore support.

Delegating doesn’t mean losing control. It means creating space to focus on what matters most to you, knowing your Instagram presence is handled with care and intention.

Here’s how I can support you:

✅ Instagram Management – I’ll handle the strategy, content creation, and posting, freeing up your time and energy.
✅ Instagram Jumpstart – A short-term solution with a full strategy, an audit, and 12 custom posts to help kickstart your Instagram presence.

✨ My clients have gained new leads, saved time, and felt more confident by handing off Instagram to someone they trust.

You don’t have to do everything on Instagram to grow your business. With a tailored approach, it can feel simpler, calmer, and more aligned with your goals.

You don’t have to do everything on Instagram to grow your business.

When I went live on Facebook once, someone left an unkind comment. Even though there were plenty of supportive messages, that one piece of criticism stuck with me. It knocked my confidence and made me question whether I should even be doing video content.

But I’ve learned that you can build a strong Instagram presence without doing it all.

✨ You don’t need to go live to build trust and connection.
✨ You can grow your business without following every trend.
✨ Boundaries allow you to protect your energy and stay consistent.

Now, I stick to content that feels manageable, short Reels, Stories, and pre-recorded videos. It’s made Instagram feel lighter and more sustainable.

Instagram isn’t about using every feature. It’s about choosing what works for your energy, strengths, and business goals.

Feeling like you’re repeating yourself on Instagram? That’s not a bad thing.

If you’ve ever thought, “I’ve already said this before…” I want you to know: your audience NEEDS to hear your message more than once.

Think about your favourite film, book, or song… you come back to it time and time again, not because it’s new, but because it’s familiar and it makes you feel something.

Your audience feels the same way about your content. They follow you for a reason - because they connect with your message and find value in what you share.

Repeating your message helps your audience:
✨ Feel supported and reassured.
✨ Remember what you stand for.
✨ Take action when they’re ready.

Instead of feeling like you need to say something new all the time, try:
✨ Sharing your message in different formats, like Reels or Stories.
✨ Highlighting real-life client experiences to reinforce your message.
✨ Repurposing valuable content your audience might have missed.

Consistency builds trust. Familiarity creates connection. Your message is always worth sharing.

Save this post as a reminder that your audience loves hearing from you.

Ever felt out of place at a networking event? I’ve been there.

I’ve attended a few networking events this week, and I couldn’t help but think back to my early days of running a business, when walking into a room full of people felt daunting.

I still remember one of my first experiences. Everyone started mingling after introductions, and I just sat there, unsure what to do.

For a moment, I thought about leaving.

But instead, I took a deep breath, stayed, and listened. Eventually, someone turned to include me in their conversation, and that small moment of kindness changed everything.

That experience reminded me of something important: connection doesn’t require you to be the loudest in the room or have all the perfect words ready to say. It’s about being present, taking small steps, and allowing yourself to connect, even if it feels a little uncomfortable at first.

And the same applies to Instagram:
✨ You don’t have to do everything or show up perfectly to connect with your audience.
✨ Small, intentional actions - like replying to a comment or sharing a quick story - can make a big difference.
✨ Giving yourself grace as you take small steps builds confidence over time.

Whether you’re at a networking event or showing up on Instagram, connection is about showing up with intention, one step at a time.

You never really know who’s watching… until one moment makes it all feel worth it.

So many business owners hesitate to put themselves out there, wondering if it really makes a difference.

I used to feel the same way, until one conversation shifted my perspective.

A few years ago, I was at an exercise class when someone came up to me and said, “I just wanted to say thank you.”

Because I had featured her business on my website, she had been offered an incredible opportunity- one that led to more visibility, income, and growth for her.

She knew who I was because I showed my face regularly online.

That moment reminded me that showing up isn’t just about posting for the sake of it. It’s about connection. It’s about being remembered. It’s about the ripple effect it creates for others.

When people see you, they recognise you. And when they recognise you, opportunities follow.

Showing up doesn’t have to mean being loud, polished, or constantly on camera.

✨ A simple post can make an impact.
✨ An Instagram Story can be a low-pressure way to start.
✨ A single piece of content can reach the exact person who needs to see it.

If I hadn’t shown up consistently, that in-person thank you wouldn’t have happened. And that’s something I’ll always hold onto.

If you’ve been holding back because it feels uncomfortable or overwhelming, I know how that feels. But the truth is that your audience can’t connect with you if they never see you.

If you would like to make showing up feel easy and natural, DM me “CLARITY” to book a free Clarity Call, and we’ll find a way to approach Instagram in a way that works for you.

A new year feels like the perfect time for a little reintroduction!

Hi 👋 I’m Rebecca, the face behind Softly Social. I help introverted business owners navigate Instagram in a way that feels calm, simple, and sustainable.

I live in Newbury with my husband, our two daughters, and two guinea pigs called Cookie and Crumble.

A few fun facts about me:
✨ My first job was in the office at my local House of Fraser.
✨ I studied Italian at university and spent a year in Verona.
✨ I’m left-handed - except when it comes to using scissors.
✨ I believe in quality over quantity (in many things, not just social media content!).
✨ I love coffee.
✨ If I get a quiet moment to myself, you’ll usually find me curled up with a good book.

If you’re looking for a calmer, more intentional approach to Instagram, you’re in the right place.

And if you’d like some free, no-pressure guidance, DM me “CLARITY” to book a 30-minute Clarity Call. It’s a friendly chat where we’ll go over any Instagram struggles you’re facing and map out a few simple steps to make things feel lighter and more manageable. Merry Christmas to everyone celebrating today! 🎄✨

For those who don’t celebrate, or who find this day a little more challenging, I’m thinking of you.

Whatever today looks like for you, I hope it brings rest and kindness ❤️

Not everything went to plan for me this year, but growth still happened.

It’s easy to focus on what didn’t happen: the goals still out of reach, the plans that didn’t work out, or the unexpected challenges.

But when I took a moment to reflect, I realised this year was full of meaningful progress, steps that felt small at the time but have added up to so much growth.

This year taught me to celebrate all kinds of wins:
✨ The big milestones that felt exciting and new
✨ The quieter moments of courage and connection
✨ The lessons learned along the way, even when things didn’t go to plan

Progress doesn’t have to be perfect or flashy to matter. It’s about showing up, trying, and moving forward, one step at a time.

If you’re reflecting on your year and feeling like you didn’t do ‘enough,’ I want to remind you of this: every small step you’ve taken counts. Growth is happening, even when it feels slow or uncertain.

🥂 What’s one win you’re celebrating from this year? Big or small, I’d love to hear about it, drop it in the comments 👇

Instagram isn’t just about the big moments; it’s about the small steps that move you forward.

When everyone’s sharing their big wins and highlight reels, it’s easy to feel like you’re not doing enough. But progress doesn’t have to be loud or flashy, it’s often found in the quiet, consistent steps you’ve taken along the way.

✨ It’s OK if you didn’t post as much as you hoped.
✨ It’s OK if your goals feel further away than you’d like.
✨ It’s OK to pause, reflect, and start again.

Because small progress is still progress.

Did you:
💡 Try a new feature like Reels, even if it felt a bit daunting?
💡 Share a post that led to a meaningful comment or DM?
💡 Take a moment to step back and give yourself some space to refocus?

If so that matters. Those small steps add up, and they deserve to be celebrated.

Growth isn’t about perfection or hitting every big milestone. It’s about showing up, learning as you go, and moving forward in a way that feels authentic to you.

What’s one step you took this year that you’re proud of? Share it below 👇 I’d love to celebrate with you.

Instagram used to drain me, until I changed the way I showed up.

For a long time, I thought success on Instagram meant following all the “rules”: post daily, use trending audio, and chase virality. It left me overwhelmed, stuck, and second-guessing everything I created.

Then I realised that Instagram isn’t about doing more. It’s about doing what works best for you.

I stopped forcing content that didn’t feel aligned and focused on creating with intention. I let go of “perfect” posts and trusted that showing up imperfectly but intentionally was enough.

Here’s what I learned:
✨ You don’t need to post every day to stay consistent.
✨ Trends come and go, but meaningful content builds trust.
✨ Connection matters more than going viral.

When I stopped chasing what everyone said I “should” do and started showing up in a way that felt right, Instagram became lighter, more manageable, and more impactful.

If Instagram feels overwhelming, ask yourself: what’s one “rule” you can let go of today? Focus on what feels simple, intentional, and sustainable for you.

Hashtags don’t have to be complicated.

When used properly, they can help the right people discover your content - but only if they’re relevant and intentional.

Here’s what works:

✅ Use hashtags your clients might search for. Think about what they’d type into Instagram’s search bar.

✅ Mix specific & broader hashtags to boost visibility. (E.g., ‘businesscoaching’ vs. ‘businesscoachformums’)

✅ Add location-based tags if your business is local. (E.g., ‘berkshirephotographer’)

What to avoid:

❌ Spammy hashtags like ‘followforfollow’. They attract bots, not clients.

❌ Using the same hashtags on every post. The algorithm notices and won’t reward you.

❌ Generic hashtags like ‘love’ or ‘business’. They’re too crowded and unlikely to help your content stand out.

❌ Irrelevant hashtags that don’t match your content. These confuse the algorithm and your audience.

✨ Pro tip: create a “go-to” list of 15-20 hashtags tailored to your business and rotate them between posts for the best results.

What if you focused less on getting seen, and more on being remembered?

It’s easy to get caught up chasing views, likes, and viral moments on Instagram, but those numbers alone won’t grow your business.

So what will?

Connecting with the right people—the ones who resonate with your message, value what you offer, and are excited to work with you.

Here’s how to focus on meaningful growth:

✨ Share content that helps or inspires your ideal clients.
✨ Start conversations in your comments, DMs, and Stories.
✨ Show up consistently as yourself.

You don’t need thousands of views. You just need the right people to notice.

This week I invite you to shift your focus from numbers to nurturing your community.

Share something helpful to your Stories, reply to a comment and start a conversation, or message someone who responds to one of your Story polls. Let me know how it goes!

Instagram Notes vs. Comments: What’s the difference? 🤔

If you’ve seen creators encouraging followers to leave Notes on Reels or posts for visibility, it might be confusing! Here’s a breakdown:

✨ Notes are limited to 60 characters, are only visible to followers you follow back, or your Close Friends list, and disappear after 3 days. When you create a Note, you choose who can see it, either followers you follow back or just your Close Friends. Notes are best for connecting with current followers but won’t attract new ones.

✨ Comments, on the other hand, are public, visible to everyone, and stay on the post, making them ideal for reaching a broader audience and engaging more followers.

To use Notes effectively:

✨ Connect with close followers: share quick updates, reminders, or specific content you want certain followers to see.

✨ Use Close Friends for select updates: choose this option for private messages that only your Close Friends will see.

✨ Avoid using Notes for growth: since they’re not public, Notes won’t expand your reach or bring in new followers.

Save this post for whenever you need a reminder the difference between Comments and Notes!
