The Joneses

It is part of our great culture
To adapt in times of change
Especially when our surnames
Do not seem so strange
We keep up with the Joneses
Pioneers of all trends
But though they’re great in number
We have ways to make amends

We call them by another name
And attach to them a tag
This makes it so much easier

Defibrillator Fundraiser night ❤️‍🩹

Today we feature Kathleen Williams aka Katherine Jenkins who was a BGT Semi Finalist in 2016. She entered our Welsh Factor Talent Competition many years ago and from there invited to take part in BGT. With a standing ovation from all four judges she instantly made her mark in the entertainment industry. I went to see Jeff Jones in the Royal Glamorgan Hospital last night and is in pain but comfortable. He would like to thank everyone for their best wishes and kindness especially the people at Llantwit Fadre RFC who looked after him last Saturday night, Susan Bartlett and team. The reponse from Artistes to take part in our charity show on Thursday 26 September has been enormous and such is the dedication of this industry which I am proud to be a part of. Hopefully by tomorrow we will be able to publish the Entertainment programme for the charity show and officially launch the event. For the Artistes who may not make the bill, we will certainly call on your services for further projects and reward everyone in some form or another. Rest assured, your kind offers will not go unnoticed. Once again, thank you all for your kindness and overwhelming support

A lot of people may be wondering why we put the Welsh Factor on hold this year. My wife suffered a broken back while in holiday last year and is awaiting surgery. Anna Marie Thomas is also awaiting a procedure and I was diagnosed with prostrate cancer. I have just completed my radiotherapy treatment and the prognosis is excellent and I am in the road to full recovery because it was caught early. The medical staff in the NHS have been truly amazing and I would like to thank my daughter for driving me to the hospital every day for the last four weeks, my wife, for looking after me during this time and the support of friends and neighbours that has also been unwavering. I would also like to thank all my Christian friends who have prayed for me during this time. As a family we have a way to go but we are a strong team and will by the grace of God bounce back. I would like to thank you all for your understanding and may God richly blessed you all

THE FUTURE OF THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY
Part 4 What ails for the future

I have always regarded myself as a visionary and in business one has to reinvent themselves every day! I created a saying some time ago, “Anyone can book an act but who books the audience?”
In this day and age the people who can sell tickets are the ones who will lead and make the business successful. In every form of business it is sales that maintain a business and “ticket sales” in our business keeps it in existence. So what do venues need to develop and Artistes for the future? First Artistes of shows need to make a very exciting professional showreel of their act that must be gentle on the eye to attract attention and pleasing on the ear so attention must be paid to detail. People buy with their eyes and recommend with their words. We get asked time and time for showreels but quite frankly the quality of some showreels leave a lot to be desired. A professional will always dot the “i’s” and cross the “t’s” The days in this business where the attitude “anything will do” are long gone. People are seeking quality because quite frankly it’s the only thing that works and prevails.
The development of venues! The last few years of running the Welsh Factor we have employed the use of a large video screen where my daughter utilised to create graphics for all the acts appearing in the grand final so they would have something like a movie to play in the background while they performed their routine or song. They use these screens now on ships and holiday parks and the clever people in this business have seen their potential and are developing and improving them. Venues that are promoting live entertainment need this facility for the future because if you want to be successful you need to do what the big boys do! Follow them because they make money! This concept is will take your venue from Sunday School to Church! When I was young and went to the cinema with my friends to watch a film, in the interval there would always be a trailer to advertise the forthcoming attractions. These would comprise of exciting snip bits of the next film to show you what was coming next. This is what video walls and showreels combined can be used for in a venue to attract an audience! It is covert advertising and should be played as often as possible before the date of the next event. I see a lot of venues and acts booking direct and the business is slowly losing its structure because everyone is doing what is right in their own eyes. No one is investing and to be quite frank it is a short term fix. There are certainly talented people out there and we have started over 800 of them by providing a platform The Welsh Factor Talent Competition. Sadly though today, people who enter the industry have no form of professional training and lack of stage craft and preparation and lack of knowledge are working by default due to the demand. This in time will pull the business down. Fortunately and some good news is that we are offering training for new acts and improvement for professionals as well. The good book declares “A wise man will learn and increase in learning but fools will despise wisdom and correction!” We are always prepared to learn and develop new things, also to listen to others because the more you learn about any subject the more you realise what you don’t know. Once an act comes on our books permanently, they get a free photoshoot, a banner and eventually a professional showreel apart from other perks. We are on a quest to improve and turn around the fortunes of the music industry as best we can. Old things are gone in the past and new things are part of the future.
For venues, most have installed large screens around the premises but these must be utilised into advertising platforms for future attractions and especially for these shows that have a professional showreel. When you are promoting an act or show, during the interval run the trailer with the sound up to announce the forthcoming attractions. Eventually, your footfall will increase and business will prosper as a result.
