ROOTS FESTIVAL 2024

A selection of photographs from Roots Theatre Festival 2024, coordinated by Vivid Roots Collective.

Delighted to be able to support Laura, Sophie, Keira and the team again at the in-person part of the event, which took place at Inverness Creative Academy last Saturday.

The full festival programme included online workshops and discussions plus a day of in-person performances, creating opportunities for emerging and Highland theatre-makers to develop new skills, make new connections and showcase their work.

An absolute pleasure to support Nairn Show - Nairnshire Farming Society with aerial and on the ground photography and video at this year’s show.

A belter of a day - loads of sunshine and lots of happy faces.

Photos of Kirstie Simson’s astonishing, brave, funny, moving and incredibly powerful solo piece Subterranéa, performed at Universal Hall Promotions last weekend as part of Dance North Scotland's RISE 2024.

Text from the Dance North website:

This solo is the next step on Kirstie’s journey through dance and life.

Evolving from 45 years of dedicated dance practice, and wide renown as a leading light in the art of improvisation, Kirstie shares her story of dealing with a life-threatening health crisis: cancer, and its recurrence. Through her art, traversing movement and text, she conveys the underlying philosophies that have emerged through the embodied practices which have supported her to face, and engage with, life’s challenges.

Subterranéa explores our resilience in the face of adversity, how we make sense of life through telling our stories, and Kirstie’s experience of the intersection between her health crisis and the planetary crisis we are collectively facing.
