Plastics? They can't be THAT bad, right?
- An estimated 9% of plastics produced have been recycled.
- An estimated 12% of plastics produced are incinerated

So where's the rest?
The reality is that it's either been disposed of in landfills or released into the environment, including the oceans.

How can we reduce it?
Quite simple really! There are a variety of options that we can all choose to reduce our plastic consumption, including things like:

- Ditch single-use plastics! Get yourself reusable cups, bottles, bags, and cutlery.
- Choose alternatives to plastic packaging. In a supermarket, there is loose veg or one in a plastic bag? Choose the item without the packaging!
- Buy secondhand! With overconsumption contributing negatively to our landfills and waste pollution, think twice about whether you need to buy an item brand new or search a local marketplace for it! You might even save some money in the process.

No change is too small, and together we can all make a change.

Global efforts to tackle climate change are alarmingly off track, states the United Nations. New data shows that warming gases are accumulating faster than ever before.

Researchers are worried that forests are rapidly losing the ability to soak up carbon, likely contributing to the record levels of warming in the atmosphere. It becomes increasingly apparent that not enough is being done to tackle climate change and that the future is approaching red hot.

Finding where to start can be challenging and overwhelming. Our carbon literacy workshops and climate change elearning series include all the starting information you require to begin forming your strategy.

The time to make change is now. Implementing your strategy to tackle climate change today could be the first step in helping save the future of our world tomorrow. No change is too small to begin reducing your emissions. https://greenskills-training.co.uk/carbon-literacy/

Green sustainable practices are becoming more and more essential in company strategies, and we can all do our bit in adopting more sustainable practices but how does this work in the digital world?

Sustainable computer practice refers to the adoption of environmentally friendly and resource-efficient methods in the use and management of computer systems and digital technologies. As our reliance on technology continues to grow, the environmental impact of computing has come under scrutiny. This includes the energy consumption of data centers, electronic waste (e-waste), and the overall carbon footprint of digital activities.

So what can be done to achieve this?

- Adopting Green Software Practices: Developers can write code that is optimized for performance, which reduces the processing power required and, consequently, the energy consumption.

- Utilizing Renewable Energy: Data centers and businesses can shift towards using renewable energy sources, such as solar or wind, to power their operations.

- Implementing Sustainable IT Policies: Organizations can develop IT policies that prioritize sustainability, such as encouraging telecommuting, setting up recycling programs for e-waste, and implementing a culture of energy conservation.

- Educating Employees: Become Carbon Literate, Training staff on sustainable practices, such as proper device usage, recycling e-waste, and energy-saving techniques, can foster a culture of sustainability within an organization.

Is your business ready to take a step towards a more sustainable future? Take a look at our Carbon Literacy Training for more information.
