We're a group of writers who get together once a month to share our writing talents and experiences in (or out of!) publishing. We meet on the first Friday of every month at the Quaker Centre, 1 Oakley Gardens, Downhead Park, Milton Keynes MK15 9BH at 7.30 - 10.15pm. You're guaranteed a laugh and the company of like-minded creative types, all for the bargain entry fee of £5. This goes towards hiring the hall etc.

This is, of course, will follow government guidelines.

Well folks, it had to come...Speakeasy will not meet until all this stuff is over. Sorry, but we cannot take the risk. I would suggest that you still carry on writing and maybe seek inspiration from the list of suggestions I gave out in January.

We've had to change this one month due to other bookings at the Quaker Centre.

It is with sadness I have to announce the death of our former Treasurer Ron Bowker at the end of January. His funeral is on Tuesday 19 February 1.15 pm. at the Oak Chapel, Crownhill Crematoriam. Although not a writer as such, Ron edited his wife Margaret books and saw them to publication. He was our Treasurer for many years and Speakeasy would like send our condolences to Margaret.

Our January meeting got us off to a good start. So we look forward to our February meeting on Friday 7 February at the Quaker Centre, 1 Oakley Gardens, Downhead Park, Milton Keynes, MK15 9BH. It's a 7.30 pm start. Please bring some of your work you'd like to read to us, and don't forget your notebook and working pen. Hi Everyone,
Unfortunately there was a double booking at the Quaker Centre last Friday. So just 4 of us ended up at The Ship Ashore at Willen shops. Shame, but it was just one of those things.

Hello Everyone, sorry to say but I've just driven over to the Quaker Centre. Although the main roads are drivEable with care, the estate roads are quite dangerous. Sorry but THE MEETING TONIGHT IS CANCELLED. That is our meeting on Friday 2 March is cancelled. Our next meeting is on Friday 6 April, just after Easter.

Just a reminder for this Friday's meeting (4th August 2017) - The story line goes like this...Someone posts a valid Lotto ticket to you. It is correctly addressed and a post-it note is stuck to the ticket. It's written 'For you'. The draw takes place and you win £50 million.
Can you write the story? Bring it along on Friday.

For those who want some ideas as to what to write, here is our suggestions for each month. FEB: Someone finds a ticket. MAR; Golden APR; (NAME) double checked. Yes,it was correct. But why would someone put that much money into his/her bank account? MAY: 'Red sky at night - shepherd's delight'. Sophie was looking forward to tomorrow. JUN: "But I don't understand," said Brian,"can you say that again?" JUL: Cow AUG: The sand between his/her toes... SEP: Bountiful OCT: Turning colours... NOV: The dakrness closed in... DEC: The present.
The above suggestions should spark you off so whatever it is get writing. You will be amazed at what you can produce.

Several people have asked if Speakeasy is still active... YES! We meet on the first Friday of the month, except when it's a bank holiday (then it's a week later) 7.30 - 10.15 pm at the Quaker Centre, 1 Oakley Gardens, Downhead Park, Milton Keynes, MK15 9BH.
Why not drop in and meet other like minded folk who love writing and are just as mad as you ;-) Please bring something you'd like to read out if you wish, but there is no pressure to read if you don't want to. Also don't forget to bring your notebook/paper and a working pen. You never know when you want to write something down.
First and second visits are free but you will be asked to become a member on your third visit. Our year runs from 1 January to 31 December. Membership is £36 for waged and £24 for unwaged. If you join during the year the membership[ fees will be pro-rata.

At our next meeting - Friday 6th November, we have Milton Keynes Poet Laureate Mark Neil as Guest Speaker. Mark is a full-time poet! Yes, really! From television & national radio, clubs, pubs, halls and balls, Mark has done them all. Come along and be entertained by Mark. He will also be hosting a Q&A session if there is time. Just £5 entry. Our next meeting is on Friday 2 October. It is a writer night where we read out our latest work, swap notes, tips etc. Don't forget to bring your notebooks and a working pen - you never know when you may need them.

Just to get those writing juices flowing - can you come up with a plot for 'the perfect murder'? Or maybe you can write something using the words 'blind ignorance'? Or a poem using the words 'Spiders spin their gossamer threads...'? Or start something with the words "Who me? Why me?"
