HAVERFORDWEST came alive with light and colour on Saturday evening (Oct 26) as the townโs annual Lantern Parade captivated thousands. Organized by SPAN Arts, the event drew a crowd of around 2,000 spectators, all eager to experience the magic of this much-loved community tradition.
Beginning at 5:00pm in St. Thomasโs Square, the procession wound its way through Haverfordwestโs streets, led by an impressive giant illuminated boat lantern. Music from the Samba DOC band created a festive rhythm for the parade, while the local choir, Cรดr Pawb, filled Castle Square with harmonious choral performances.
The night concluded in spectacular fashion at the Skate Park, where PFS Entertainment UK delivered a high-energy circus-style performance and dazzling fire display. The finale left the crowd exhilarated, bringing a memorable close to the eveningโs festivities.
The parade featured approximately 500 lantern bearers, many carrying lanterns crafted during free community workshops held before the event. This collaborative effort highlighted Haverfordwestโs creative spirit, drawing participants and onlookers of all ages in a celebration of unity and artistry.
Thanks to careful planning, the event ran smoothly, with sections of Bush Row, Market Street, and High Street closed to facilitate the parade. SPAN Arts marshals were on hand to ensure safety, helping create a welcoming and well-organized atmosphere.

CONCERNS over ambulance services in Pembrokeshire have escalated, with local politician Paul Davies MS raising critical questions in the Senedd today, demanding urgent reassurances from the Welsh Government. The issue comes in the wake of several distressing incidents, including the recent death of a man after a nine-hour wait for an ambulance in Pembroke Dock.
Mr Davies has expressed his alarm following numerous complaints from local residents. He said: โIโve called for a statement from the Welsh Government on the delivery of ambulance services, following local concerns that Iโve received. Reassurances must be given that beds will not be removed from Withybush Hospital, as the removal of beds will only add further strain to the system. Support is also needed as a matter of urgency, as staff feel that theyโre facing more and more paperwork and targets.โ
The Conservative Senedd Member also highlighted that ambulance staff are increasingly struggling under heavy pressure, with added paperwork and challenging targets contributing to low morale. He raised the matter in the Senedd chamber, calling on the new Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care to make an urgent statement.
Addressing the Trefnydd, Mr Davies said: โAmbulance staff have raised concerns with me about services in Pembrokeshire, and I was alarmed to hear that 30 beds are to be removed from Withybush Hospital and Glangwili Hospital in due course. I was also alarmed to hear that ambulances despatched to Pembrokeshire are no longer ring-fenced to return, and the priority is to clear the backlog at Glangwili Hospital before any backlogs at Withybush Hospital
