Nine Volt Leap is a professional recording studio and rehearsal rooms based in Melksham, Wiltshire with over 13 years of experience recording. Our aim is to make high quality recordings for a fair price. Our Approach.....

The biggest variable in recording is your performance. We always encourage bands to practice as much as possible leading up to a session, then maybe take the day before off. We

want you to be happy, that starts with our pricing. We would hate for you to be constantly watching the clock instead of focusing on a good performance. Amps of the day. with a THD cab using the .berlin u87 and 414. On the left we have the Klipp paired with the selmer cab and a MD421 SM57 and another 414. I also have a pair of Neumann KM184s in the hall for some natural ambience.

15 years ago me and my mate Keith got the keys to the unit that is Nine Volt Leap. At the start it was a labour of love as we both worked full time jobs so we spent evenings and weekends recording bands, building stuff and generally messing about. After a few years Keithy boy decided to set sail for a warmer, sunnier climate (weird decision for somebody that burns on a cloudy October morning). Since then I decided it was time to put more of my attention into the studio, so, I quit my 9-5 and took the plunge. It was probably one of the best decisions I’ve ever made and was lucky to be supported by family and friends along the way. The studio is now the busiest it has ever been with a constant flow of amazing musicians, bands and general noise making animals coming through. I’m very lucky to be able to do what I do and I could not do it with all you lot. So, here’s to another 15 years of bringing your music to other peoples ears. Love to you all baby!!!

Had a wonky drummer in who set his kit up well backwards and that. It enabled me to be able to pop this .berlin U87 facing the kit from the side like I wouldn’t normally be able to with a standard setup, it sounded amazing.

Bit of bass tramping through this punchy little Traynor, sounds great.

I’ve found blending a stereo pair of dynamics on the back of the piano with a pair of something on the front, condensers, ribbons, etc and a room mic is a super lovely combination. The new Bechstein records amazingly well.
