🍂 This autumn, get ready for Archive Stories Collective: INVISIBLE CABARET Exhibition at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre 18-30 Nov.
The exhibition is the culmination of an innovative Buckinghamshire Culture STORIES Project. Earlier this year poet Ellen Renton @ellen_ren was commissioned to create new writing and artwork inspired by Bucks' nationally significant disability archives and to work with artists connected to Buckinghamshire. The artists joining Ellen are: Arden Fitzroy, @the_guy_morris_project, @nooresehar and Jess Starns (@museums_art). Together the group have formed a collective and have created an exhibition following their investigations of the National Disability Arts Collection & Archive (NDACA) and National Paralympic Heritage Trust Archives (NHPT).
✨ As part of @bucks_culture wider STORIES initiative, Archive Stories underpins the core aim to galvanise the power of stories to inspire communities, audience, and artists to reflect, interpret and imagine what makes this county unique: its people, heritage, natural environment and histories. We couldn’t agree more.

When Bollywood met Bucks! 🎬🌟 Did you know that part of the iconic Bollywood film Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (‘Sometimes Happiness, Sometimes Sadness') was shot in our very own Buckinghamshire?
This beloved 2001 Hindi-spoken Bollywood blockbuster explores themes of family abandonment, loss and classism, and has links to the UK. While primarily filmed in India, scenes were shot at the stunning Grade I listed Waddesdon Manor, near Aylesbury, which served as the protagonist family’s ‘New Delhi’ home.
Additionally, the beautiful Stowe School in Buckingham made an appearance in the film.
Bucks is never far from filmmaking magic! 🎥✨
The Production Guild of Great Britain’s (PGGB) 2024 awards took place on 14 September – championing British talent within the film industry. 🎬
Barbie, Wonka and Paddington producer David Heyman was among the winners at the biennial PGGB awards, and we couldn’t agree more with his comments:
“In the next year, I think more productions will start up, more productions will come to the UK, because it’s the best place in the world to make films and TV shows.
“That said, we have to continue to nurture the next generation of people coming into the industry. We need education, schools and training programmes and we need those already working in the industry to support, train, mentor and ultimately employ young people. It is also vital that our sets are more diverse and reflect the society we live in. If we can do that, the future will truly be bright.” (Source @screendaily)
🌟Congratulations to all PGGB 2024 award winners – for your contributions to making British film and filmmakers some of the best in the world.

Burton, Bucks and Beetlejuice… a winning combination! 🎬👻
Familiar local landmark – West Wycombe Park and Estate – appears in Tim Burton’s recently released, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, showing that Bucks locations remain top destinations for world-leading filmmakers.
🎞️ Beetlejuice Beetlejuice hit UK cinemas on Friday 6 September – just in time for the spooky season! The highly anticipated sequel of the 1988 cult original, Beetlejuice (yes, we remember it), shot at several locations across England – including bringing some macabre to West Wycombe Estate – where the funeral scene took place. The Estate formed part of the production’s on-location trips while filming at Leavesden Studios last year.
West Wycombe Park’s previous TV and screen incarnations include Bridget Jones's Diary, Cranford, Sense and Sensibility, X-Men, Howards End, Downton Abbey and Midsomer Murders.
So, if you fancy a ‘dead’ funny film in the run up to Halloween, with glimpses of familiar backdrops to boot… just repeat after us ‘Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice…’

More than 80 years of investment, training and advocacy has put Buckinghamshire at the heart of filmmaking. 🎬✨
From classics like Brief Encounter (filmed at Denham Studios and Beaconsfield) that blazed the trail… to contemporary Oscar-winners, the county’s rich cinematic heritage continues to inspire.
Here a just a few Oscar-winning films helped be brought to life on the Big Screen by Buckinghamshire!:
- The Queen (2006): Starring Helen Mirren as Queen Elizabeth II. Mirren won the Oscar for Best Actress. Buckinghamshire filming locations include Halton House (RAF Halton), Halton; and Waddesdon Manor, Waddesdon.
- The Imitation Game (2014): The film took home the Academy Award for Best Writing, Adapted Screenplay (Graham Moore). The film was primarily shot at the historic Bletchley Park, where Turing and his team worked on breaking the Enigma code. Chesham was another Bucks location used.
- The Theory of Everything (2014): Eddie Redmayne won the Oscar for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role for his performance as Stephen Hawking in this biopic. While much of the film was shot in Cambridge, some scenes were filmed in Buckinghamshire, including at the Royal Standard of England pub in Forty Green, Beaconsfield.
