It's the Merry Merry Month of May!

We're making a right song and dance at Sherwood Forest this May Bank Holiday (5th and 6th May).

On Sunday 5th May, we'll have the Nottinghamshire Band of the Royal Engineers helping us to mark VE Day by performing in our amphitheatre from 12.30pm, ably supported by the U3A Record Group.

Then on Bank Holiday Monday, it's time to break out those dancing shoes with performances from traditional dance troupes Duke's Dandy, Feet First and Maltby Sword.

There will also be a song or two from none other than Maid Marian.

And there'll be Have A Go Archery at the Major Oak with The Sherwood Outlaws

Are you joining us for a little nostalgia this Sunday? Come along and view the work underway on a number of projects including the full refurbishment of our film star, the โ€˜Generalโ€™. Perhaps youโ€™d like to join us as a volunteer and assist with this and many other tasks.

We are open from 1000-1600 this Sunday. Free entry, free bus rides and some fantastic refreshments available too. Perhaps the largest model bus shop in the East Midlands boosted by a great selection of transport books and photographs (both road and rail) available to add to your collections.

A great venue for families with competitions for the children, colouring, tombolla and a fantastic model railway.

We look forward to seeing you on Sunday ๐Ÿ‘

Today is Earth Day and every April 22nd, millions of people across the globe gather on Earth Day to celebrate the environmental movement and our beautiful home, planet earth.

The event began in 1970 in the United States, and is now marked around the world.

The aim of Earth day is to highlight the importance of protecting the environment and ensuring it thrives for future generations.

How will you celebrate day?

๐ŸŒฑ Plant a tree.

๐ŸŒฑ Plant some wildflowers for our ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ

๐ŸŒฑ Walk to school with your family instead of driving ( distance dependent of course!)

๐ŸŒฑ With an adult, litter pick at a local park ( using protective gloves and a litter picker)

๐ŸŒฑ Pledge to reduce your use of single use plastics.

There are so many ways to celebrate, we would love to hear about some of your Earth Day celebrations.

This year there are changes to how you hand your postal vote in. ๐Ÿ“ฎ

โœ”๏ธ The easiest and safest way to return a postal vote is to post it in a Royal Mail post box.

From May, voters will not be allowed to hand in more than five postal ballot packs, in addition to their own, and they will now be required to fill in a form if they deliver it to the council offices or at a polling station.

Postal voters that wish to deliver packs by hand can do so at the customer service desk in the Civic Centre, or at a polling station on polling day. However, when dropping the vote off, a form must be completed declaring circumstances of delivery.

โŒAny postal packs that are dropped off without completion of a form will be rejected by law.

There will also be a new criminal offence to stop parties and campaigners handling postal votes for other voters who are not close relatives or someone for whom they provide regular care.

This week we have been reviewing plans for our ยฃ9.2million Hucknall Levelling Up Fund with partners and Councillors.

We originally submitted the bid back in July 2022, and we received the fantastic news that we had been successful in March 2024. The funding has to be spent by 2025/26, so we need to review which elements of the original plan we can deliver in the reduced timescale, before we can share the exact details with residents and businesses in Hucknall.

Our ambitious plan to drive economic regeneration in Hucknall is centred around three main themes โ€“ Skills and Economic Regeneration, Cultural and Heritage Gateway, and Access to Hucknall town centre. We will share the details of the plan as soon as we can.

Keep an eye on our website and social media for more details in the coming months ๐Ÿ‘€
