I have just been called by the assistant Director (A Mr Chikuwa) at fraud and CYBER CRIMES section at Police headquarters in Lusaka in relation to a statement I made over the attack on Mr Sean Tembo who was attacked at the police station in front of officer YUYI by UPND cadres led by Trevor Mwinde.

It must be noted that self defence is provided for in our Laws and the law dictates that the force you use in self defence must be equal to the force used by the aggressor.As a law abiding citizen I will make myself available tommorow to learn what the police have made out of this issue.

THE NEW DAWN GOVERNMENT BOOSTS FREE EDUCATION IN ZAMBIA WITH 700 MILLION KWACHA DISBURSEMENT

In a significant step towards sustaining its free education initiative, the Zambian government has allocated over 700 million Kwacha to over 13,000 schools nationwide.

This strategic funding, released last week, underscores the government's commitment to improving access to quality education and reducing financial burdens on families.

According to Ministry of Education spokesperson K***a Mando, the funds will benefit more than 10,000 primary schools and 3,000 secondary schools.

β€œThis funding ensures the smooth operation of Zambia’s free education system, covering costs that were traditionally borne by parents, including tuition and exam fees,” Mando stated during a press briefing.

BREAKDOWN OF THE FUNDING

SECONDARY SCHOOLS: 300 million Kwacha

PRIMARY SCHOOLS: 200 million Kwacha

PROVINCIAL EDUCATION OFFICES AND COLLEGES OF EDUCATION: 200 million Kwacha

The allocation is designed to support schools in maintaining operational independence while adhering to the government’s free education policy.

In addition to financial support, the Ministry has expanded the school feeding program, which now benefits students in 106 districts, up from 80 previously.

The program provides nutritious meals, including soybeans and groundnuts, aiming to reduce absenteeism and enhance academic performance.

β€œWhen children are well-fed, their ability to concentrate improves, which directly impacts their educational outcomes,” Mando emphasized.

The Ministry has upgraded health facilities in schools across five provinces. These health rooms, staffed by teachers trained in basic medical care, provide immediate attention to students with health concerns. For more severe cases, schools coordinate fast-tracked treatment at nearby hospitals.

Recognizing the financial challenges faced by some families, the Ministry has introduced a social protection program to provide essential school supplies such as uniforms and shoes. This initiative ensures that financial constraints do not hinder any child’s right to education.

These combined efforts highlight Zambia’s dedication to fostering an inclusive and supportive educational environment.

From financial aid to health and social protection programs, the government continues to address barriers to education, ensuring that all children, regardless of socio-economic background, can thrive academically.

This comprehensive approach reaffirms Zambia’s commitment to its Education for All policy, paving the way for a brighter and more equitable future

PRIVATE SCHOOLS INSTRUCTED TO ADHERE TO GOVERNEMNT’S POLICY GUIDELINES. The Ministry of Education has reiterated that opening day for Early Childhood Education, Grade 1 and Form One is 10th February 2025 but the rest of the Grades will open on 13th January. Education Minister Douglas Syakalima has said the deferred opening date for ECE, Grade 1 and Form one is due to the commencement of the new school curriculum. And Ministry of Education Permanent Secretary- Education Services, Mr. Jeol Kamoko has said both Public and Private Schools should adhere to the directive given by the Minister on the two opening dates. β€œIn Zambia we have one curriculum; unless a private school is running examinations from other bodies with permission from Government. We do not expect contradictions on what has been pronounced by government.” Mr. Kamoko said. He also warned that the Ministry of Education through the directorate of Standards, Assessments and Evaluation working with Provincial Education Officers will not hesitate to sanction schools that do not adhere to directives given by the Ministry.
