Thrilled to share that I’ve just published my first article on Substack! 🎉

Confessions of a Reformed Shopaholic is a new series where I dive into my evolving relationship with fashion—from a love of shopping sprees to embracing sustainable style. It’s been a transformative journey of learning to buy less, rent more, and make conscious choices, and I’m excited to bring you along for the ride.

Whether you’re a fashion lover, a sustainability advocate, or just curious, I’d love for you to join me in this new chapter.

How Deb Bee is Weaving Sustainability into Fashion: A Journey from Harrods to Bee & Sons 🌱♻️

I’m thrilled to share my latest conversation with the incredible Deborah Bee founder of Bee & Sons, in Threads of Change: Conversations in Sustainable Fashion. Deb and I first at Harrods many years ago, where she was one of my greatest champions, supporting my work in social media for the brand. Her passion for fashion and sustainability has always shone through.

In this interview, Deb shares how she’s creating change in the fashion world by championing circular fashion, using recycled and natural fibres, and partnering with local manufacturers. Bee & Sons is proof that even small brands can make a big impact on sustainability.

From her candid thoughts on fast fashion to how consumers can make smarter choices, Deb’s journey is an inspiring reminder of how we can all do better in the fashion industry.

When Emma Lightbown reached out to me on LinkedIn and invited me to be a guest on her brilliant ‘Off the Hanger' podcast, it was an immediate yes. One of the great things about the world of work today is that from a career perspective, you can be multi-dimensional. You can be as passionate about fashion as you are about social justice. I thoroughly enjoyed talking about all things fashion with Emma - from sustainability and fashion rentals to my favourite piece of clothing. Thank you Emma.

I've recently rediscovered the joys and rewards of using second-hand clothing apps to sell the clothes that I cannot rent and no longer wear. To my delight, I managed to turn a handsome profit of over £300 in just two weeks, thanks to Vinted!

My latest article focuses on the French government's "repair bonus" initiative, which launched earlier this month, and represents a significant move towards a more sustainable fashion industry. It offers citizens subsidies of 6 to 25 euros for repairs on clothing and shoes to encourage reuse over disposal, addressing the issue of the roughly 700,000 tonnes of garments discarded annually in France.

Aligned with the principles of a circular economy, this initiative aims to increase the repaired items from 16 million in 2019 to 21.6 million by 2028, emphasising resource efficiency, waste reduction, and sustainable consumption. It also seeks to shift consumer behaviour towards mindful practices and extends the lifespan of garments.

This approach aligns with the broader shift towards conscious, environmentally friendly practices in fashion, including rentals, which further reduce consumption and extend the lifecycle of clothing.

When I launched my first website a few weeks ago, I said that it was the first of a number of business ventures that I would be launching in the coming months. Well I’m delighted to announce that my second venture will be coming soon.

The STYLISA brand has its origins in fashion, as many years ago, I worked as a fashion stylist (hence the name - a fusion of ‘Stylist’ and ‘Lisa’), which is what led me into social media and marketing (I talked about this on a recent episode of the The Blair Project’s ‘See Me, Be Me’ podcast). Fast forward to present day, and the brand will be re-emerging with a focus on marketing and communications as well as something a little different - fashion and finance.
