Sideways Saloon is the record label imprint and long running live music night founded in the formative years of Manchester 5-piece, The Travelling Band and their friends. A ethos of self sufficiency, friendship, community and togetherness resulted in the labels first physical release, 2007's 'If this is a gag, i'm in' EP. d CD-R's were encased in envelopes painted with coffee with the track titles hand drawn individually by the band and their buddies. These were then wax sealed and packaged in hand sewn embroidered corduroy pouches. It was as D.I.Y as it got for the time and Piccadilly Records loved them so much they made the EP record of the week on release and it sold out instantly. The imprint went onto release TTB's second EP 'The Redemption of Mr Tom’ and then the bands debut album 'Under the Pavement' (2008) on a UK wide release before successfully licensing 2011's 'Screaming is Something" LP to Cooking Vinyl Records. That same year, the label released the charity album 'ten' - 'Manchester Music for Kosovo', which featured bands such as Elbow, Cherry Ghost, Doves,, Jim Noir, Josephine, Liam Frost and Nine Black Alps. The project included several events to promote the release at venues including Union Chapel and the Eden Project, raising over £15,000 for the charity from events alone that year. Following the EP release of now defunct 'Letters to Fiesta', 2014 saw Sideways Saloon team up with Republic of Music as a their worldwide distribution partner for the release of TTB's 'The Big Defreeze', an album which drew acclaim from both sides of the Atlantic with 4* reviews in R2 and Uncut. The long running 'Sideways Saloon' and 'Shut the far Cupboard" live club nights became a staple of the grass roots music scene in Manchester and underground touring bands and artists from both sides of the Atlantic. Hundreds of bands have been through the Saloon doors, where the shows were always free entry and served to a loyal captive audience who respect and support independent live music. Now focusing on releasing music in conjunction with Pinhole Sound Studio, Sideways Saloon embark on 2016 with the new signing of Canadian songwriter A. His album is out April 29th on LP / CD / DOWNLOAD / PHOTO BOOK.
