In addition to the established jobseeker ticketing and bike initiatives for jobseekers, we at Transport for Greater Manchester also offer a similar scheme for apprentices of any age. The project is joint funded by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority and ourselves and is aimed at alleviating the initial travel costs experienced by apprentices on a low wage as they commence their learning.

In brief, here’s what we presently offer…

· 28 days of free travel by bus and tram, recognised right across Greater Manchester, available to GM residents within the first six months of their apprenticeships

· A free reconditioned bike and safety equipment (helmet, lock, lights, high visibility vest, toolkit, puncture outfit) and the offer of free cycle training (from scratch, a refresher, or bike maintenance) if required, available to apprentices within their first year of training

· A personalised travel plan

This scheme is kindly administered for us by over 70 (and counting) apprenticeship providers in a fashion similar to how the jobseeker scheme is presently delivered by Jobcentres.
