We recently worked with Reform Radio as part of their ‘Skills Bootcamp - Video Production’ project in which we wrote a creative brief and invited a group of trainees to pitch their ideas then create a short film in response.
We asked the group, Yasser, Christopher and Hei, to come to @thesharpproject to film one of our SharpFutures Discover sessions in which a local Manchester school visit the site to find out more about careers in the creative digital sector, led by our Education Lead Thalaya and supported by #SharpFuturesPOD member Esther.
In advance of the shoot day Yasser, Christopher and Hei learnt about production techniques, storyboarding and kit set up with Nick Wood from Koolstof and the Reform Radio team.
At the initial pitch session we talked about the challenges of planning shoot days and how to best to prepare for the challenges of quick turnaround jobs to which the group responded by planning expertly, especially considering it was the first time they had worked on such a project.
On the day of the shoot the group arrived early and set up but did face a big challenge in that the school unfortunately had to cancel their visit at the last minute - Yasser, Christopher and Hei responded brilliantly by rearranging their shoot plan and being calm and collected under pressure.
The final video they completed, in just a few days after the shoot, is below and we think it is brilliant, featuring great interviews with Thalaya & Esther and some excellent shots of our education space and around The Sharp Project, plus a couple of stand in’s for the tour footage - thank you Fatima & Morgan!
Great work by the group and we really enjoyed being a part of the project. Yasser, Christopher and Hei are now applying for #SharpFuturesPOD and we look forward to working with them again in the future.
This training has been made possible thanks to Greater Manchester Combined Authority securing funding to deliver Skills Bootcamps, which form part of the Government’
