📚 Book of the Month: Do/ Story: How to Tell Your Story So the World Listens by Bobette Buster.

This is a practical guide to mastering the art of storytelling. Having worked as a story consultant (!) for the likes of Pixar, Disney, and Sony Animation, Buster shares her ten principles for how to nail a compelling narrative. And she does.

‘Stories possess a spark, a power: to comfort, connect, destroy, transform - and even to heal. Everyone has a story to tell. So, what’s your story?’

Driven by an ethos centred around ‘Human Conscious Design’, , set out to support specifiers in shaping more inclusive spaces - with a special focus on ADHD and autism, as well as dementia.

Before launching their newly developed Human Conscious Design Virtual Reality platform - which allows designers to see spaces through the eyes of someone who’s neurodivergent - they needed a thought leadership platform that would approach this sensitive topic in the right way. That’s where we came in.

Together, we were able to:

📚 Produce the ‘Human Conscious Design Principles Guide’, offering research-backed insights and realistic design guidance
đŸŽ„ Drive journalist and influencer footfall to Tarkett’s showroom for the launch of their revolutionary VR platform
đŸŽ€ Secure speaking slots at leading industry events
📰 Land thought leadership features in key media titles, including Autism Eye, Architecture Magazine (UK), and Premises & Facilities Management
💬 Host a roundtable with Mix Interiors, The Design Council, The National Autistic Society, and specifiers
🏆 Secure coverage in key trade titles, including Design Insider, Mix Interiors, and Hotel SPACE magazine.

Considering that Autism Awareness Week falls in April, we knew there’d be no better person to spotlight in our Book of the Month series than - the neurodivergent speaker, activist, and author of Unmasked: The Ultimate Guide to ADHD and Autism.

Having been diagnosed with both ADHD and Autism later on in life, Ellie speaks openly about her journey of self-discovery, combining lived experience with intensive research to create an easily digestible handbook designed with “busy brains” in mind.

Whether neurodivergent or neurotypical, Ellie’s practical tips and tricks for navigating everything from high school friendships to the workplace are already helping so many to remove the ‘mask’ and work with their brain, rather than against it.

Having personally felt that one simply wasn’t enough, we’re ecstatic to hear that Ellie will be publishing her second book baby on the 5th of September, and we can’t wait to add it to the shelf.

Science-based and purpose-driven, is a multi-award-winning climate-tech business committed to developing low-carbon, waste-combatting construction material alternatives.

Despite only being founded in 2019, their 14-strong team of young, passionate individuals are already cementing a greener future for the sector, having been recognised by the prestigious for their flagship product, OSTO.

Their determination and drive haven’t gone unnoticed by us either, and their commitment to transforming an industry that’s been slow on the sustainability uptake means that we’re featuring their inspiring story in our new Best-in-Class B2B edit.

Axter is ending the week on a real high, having been accredited as a Silver Carbon Literate Organisation by - and it’s a journey we’re proud to have supported them on. đŸ„ł

Last December, we delivered our Net Zero Masterclass to the entire team to optimise their understanding of carbon emissions and start the all-important, ongoing conversation about the role they play in combatting climate change.

As part of Axter’s mission to make an impact and hit their key sustainability goals, they now offer Carbon Literacy training to all of their staff to ensure they’re all “striving towards the same goal” - in the words of Managing Director, Phillip Wilcox-Moore.

“Axter has demonstrated its commitment to genuine low carbon action, environmental and economic impact, and the building of a low carbon future for us all” - says Dave Coleman, the Co-Founder and Managing Director of The Carbon Literacy Project.

What an achievement! 👏

In celebration of this year’s B Corp Awareness Month theme, we’ve been spotlighting the unsung heroes of the B2B world who are genuinely committed to ‘doing good’.

As a pioneer of the employee-ownership model, Scott Bader is another mention from our client portfolio who’s dedicated to making a social impact within its industry - a mission that continues the legacy of their founder, Ernest Bader. Ernest’s vision emphasised the importance of balancing commerciality with community, and Scott Bader continues to show us in every aspect of their ethos.

95 people, three groups, and two days worth of of Carbon Literacy training - phew!

We travelled down south to continue Bauder’s Carbon Literacy training programme so that the whole team can communicate the climate crisis with confidence.

With sustainability already engrained into their ethos, it’s no suprise that their team showed strong engagement and commitment to learning, and understanding their vital role in combating global warming.

Well done everyone. 👏

One of the main reasons why we chose to partner with , a global flooring manufacturer, was their commitment to developing conscious interior solutions that revolve around both people and planet.

They’re ambitious and already making significant strides towards their goal of slashing their greenhouse gas emissions by a whopping 30% across their entire value chain by 2030.

Their dedication to sustainability and championing circular practices has earned them recognition, being the only flooring manufacturer listed in the FT’s Top 500 European climate leaders in 2023, and the only one of their kind in Europe with the capability to transform post-use flooring into ‘next life’ surfaces.

With plenty to shout about, we had no choice but to feature them in our new Best-in-Class B2B edit: a source dedicated to shining a light on the businesses showing us in 2024.

Happy International Women’s Day, from the wonderful women who make Hattrick, Hattrick. đŸ«¶

As a female-owned, and female-run marketing agency, we’ve always been committed to a collaborative and fair working model. We know from lived experience that one of the greatest challenges for women to progress in the workplace is their disproportionate child- and broader caring responsibilities, and the lack of flexibility offered by businesses.

That’s why gender equality is one of our Sustainable Development Goals and part of our B Corp commitment to put people at the heart of the business alongside the planet - and profit. 💗

We are publishing our impact report in April where we will share our progress and targets going forward.

Fantastic to see our client, , featured in the latest issue. The Design Report edition emphasised the importance of celebrating enduring influences on design sustainably, rather than chasing fleeting trends.

One palette that has remained prominent is pastels, a timeless choice in design heralded for its associations with freshness and positivity. However, 2024 will see their evolution into a newer, hazier form - an aesthetic shift beautifully showcased by Johnson Tiles’ Prismatics tiles in Bluebell Gloss PRG33.

To find out more about the latest design trends, head to Johnson Tiles’ website.

“All marketers have this amazing, behaviour-changing superpower to capture hearts and minds. We just need to use our creative, strategic flair to reorient our focus to become forces for good.”

With a combined 50 year’s worth of industry expertise, marketing masterminds Paul Randle and Alexis Eyre have witnessed the sector’s response to sustainability (or lack of) firsthand.

A companion to their Sustainable Marketing Compass, Sustainable Marketing puts forward a new blueprint to enable today’s communicators to embed sustainability at the heart of everything they do - and feel empowered by the critical role they play in combatting climate change.

Randle and Eyre take you on a journey through time, pinpointing marketing’s beginning, past and present challenges and, most importantly, painting a more promising picture of how a better framework could rewrite its future.

Stay tuned for next month’s book!

You wouldn’t think that Tuesday would be the most important day of the week for us, but when coffee and cake is involved, what else would you expect? ☕

Fika is a Swedish tradition (and state of mind) that encourages making time for people amongst the hustle and bustle - be it friends, family, colleagues, or all of the above. And it’s perhaps why Sweden ranks 6th in the world for coffee drinking!

Brought to Manchester by our very own Swede, Malin, it allows us to not only judge each other’s baking skills but to catch up on our business strategy for the week. You’d be surprised at what a shedload of sugar can accomplish! 🍰

A Fika mentality, however, isn’t just limited to a Tuesday. We apply this ethos to everything we do, which means celebrating life’s little luxuries and holding teamwork at our core.

So, if this is your first time hearing about Fika, why not bring it to your office? 😋

What does the term “inclusive design” mean to you?

This is a concept explored in-depth by our client, , in their recently launched ‘Human Conscious Design Principles Guide’ that we worked alongside them to produce.

In a recent article, Tarkett’s Workplace Segment Marketing Manager, Harry Harris, emphasised the crucial role of the industry in implementing solutions that effectively accommodate neurodiverse individuals, particularly through sensory-conscious design.

We’ll be picking the winner at random at the end of the month.

Some incredible statistics from the ’s recent report, as they looked back at last year’s achievements - which are showing no signs of slowing in 2024.

CLAD was a busy day for us Hattrick-ers, as we proudly delivered face-to-face training with the help of Manchester and for 20 people across 12 different businesses. đŸ„ł

We wanted to say a massive ‘well done’ to everyone who’s committed to learning about the importance of sustainable marketing, both to our group, and the thousands of others who have been (and will be) certified.

📚BOOK OF THE MONTH: ‘Can Marketing Save the Planet?’ 📚

We’re kicking off 2024’s monthly book reviews with a shoutout to the wonderful Michelle Carvill and Gemma Butler on the highly anticipated release of “Can Marketing Save the Planet?”

Following on from the success of Michelle Carvill and Gemma Butler’s first book, ‘Sustainable Marketing: How to Drive Profits with Purpose’, we knew we’d be in for a real treat with this one - and we weren’t wrong.

Both practical and easily digestible, this toolkit features 101 ways that marketing professionals can use their skills for good. Each acts as a standalone chapter, making it a great read for those who like to dip in and out, and includes a list of helpful resources for additional research.

As a climate-focused lexicon merges into our regular vocabulary, this book is a godsend for making sense of sustainability.
