Our birthday party is just around the corner! Party hats are in production, cake recipes laid out, speeches prepared — it's all go in Steam HQ. Thought it might be good to introduce an artist for the night as well?

Murder He Wrote played our first ever birthday back in 2021, so he's no stranger to a party hat and a sing song. Blending elements of garage, UK funky, broken beat & so much more into his own off-kilter take on club music, his playful and chest rattling productions and edits have been melting brains and subwoofers worldwide for the last decade.

Supported by the likes of Ben UFO, Jyoty, Giles Peterson, Jamz Supernova and Mary Anne Hobbs, with sick sets on Radio 1, Boiler Room, NTS, Rinse FM, Keep Hush and more, we can't wait for him to shell it on a massive rig in a tiny pub alongside , , and our very own steamy crew. It will be fun, you should come.

We think we're down to the last early bird on RA now, grab it quick before price goes up to £7 (still a steal let's be real).
Also be sure to check out the show Murder He Wrote did for us a couple of weeks back if you wanna get your appetite truly whetted, it's on our Mixcloud just waiting for you.

Introducing The Secondary Circuit, a new bi-monthly residency from .dewar_ . Tune in at 7pm to hear an hour of ambient, experimental and moody club-not-club music, evoking the scarred landscapes and oppressive structures of our ever changing environments.

“The purpose of the show will be to explore the relationship between nature and our ever-changing built environment. Moving through a mix of experimental, ambient and folky sounds to more club-adjacent styles, the show will aim to traverse the meditative, exhilarating and sometimes unsettling states that our surrounding environments can often induce.”

will be live in the studio from 3pm, a much welcomed return to the dials. Followed by and a live stream from the courtesy of later on - with a whole host of Manchester talent sandwiched in between.

The fundraiser festival is now just around the corner, and we're excited to reveal two new additions to Saturday's lineup! SHERI and Karcie both took part in our DJ and radio production course this year, so we're dead excited to have them on the bill. They are both sick DJs, and we can guarantee you'll be seeing a lot more of them on the city's lineups in coming months.

SHERI's goal is to take the crowd on a multi-genre sonic voyage by championing sounds from Africa and the global Diaspora, she plays a wide selection of underground sounds of percussion-heavy, dance-ready jubilant global club rhythms. Karcie meanwhile has been using the steam workshops to explore a mix of broken beat, techno and high energy sounds. She's newly integrated to manchester, but is sure to make an impact with her eclectic and dancefloor focused DJ and radio sets.

These two will be taking on warm-up duties on the new outdoor stage area (🌞 pray for sunshine 🌞), with Karcie playing midday til 1 and SHERI on 1-2. Get down early, stick about for a lovely selection of live music, spoken word and DJ sets.

Reminder also that steam residents , and are on closing duties on Saturday night, taking us through to 4am. We'll award full steam points and buy a crisp pint for anyone that makes it through the full open-til close session.

Big thanks again to and
for their support with the course!

Announcing the first part of our lineup contribution for the fundraiser weekend next week, raising money to secure the future of our spiritual (and physical) home! We're co-curating the Saturday late night party alongside the lovely .presents and , alongside a sprinkling of steam residents across the full weekend (more to come on that).

First up on the Saturday is , who usually hosts late night Friday shows here on Steam. Babs is a lover of music and takes inspiration from the people and world around her, expect to get fully lost in her set spanning through electro, Detroit techno, sultry house, acid, uk funky and kuduro.

We've then got an elusive b2b taking the reins as we head into the early hours! The Snakecharmer and The Grasshopper (we've heard rumours this may be and under alias? cannot be confirmed) reconcile for one evening of b2b chaos to celebrate and support the Taphouse. Anything could happen (but it'll sound great).

More announcements to come from us, and check out the poster for the full lineup release so far! So much good stuff across the full weekend, not to be missed.

STEAM team picks are back! We’ve put our collective noggins together and come up with five of our favourite shows from July. A tad belated but cast your ears back to last month and you’ll find some class shows - these were just the ones that stuck with us ☺️

Dish Selector: Video Game Special 26.07.24 (Tommy’s pick)

always delivers a great show. Going a tad off piste last month from their usual food related radio, Tom delves into their favourite tunes from games throughout the years. 👾

One6Wave 12.07.24 (Cathy’s pick)

Super dynamic - New music, great mixes, good chat and live MCs all packed into two hours.

The Mid Morning Snack Show w/ Tommy Cross (Ruairidh’s pick)

Tommy returns in style after a very contentious ‘malt-loaf’ related takeover of his slot. He also gave Ruairidh a cruffin and a scratchie and the music was good so that never hurts. Despite the clear bribery, the show was a corker with lots of mega tunes to ease you into your day.

Ones To Watch w/ Sez ft. Conduit 07.07.24 (Ollie’s pick)

Showcasing new and emerging talents from across the UK and Manchester ft. Conduit in the monthly ‘Spitting with Sez’ guest spot. It was the shiznits.

Scran for the Soul 12.07.24 (Harry’s pick)

This was a great show to sit in on - an eclectic mix of lovely tunes, silly chit-chat and even a sing-a-long for the keen-eared listener. Perfect daytime listening. 🌞

All the shows are in a ‘July 24 picks’ playlist on our Mixcloud. Go check it!

Saturday is set to be another stellar day of radio on STEAM! From 10-12 we’ll be broadcasting a one off morning show from Apricot Ballroom’s

Joi La Frique (Gabe) is an obsessive digger and collector of records and hi-fi kit, and is usually busy digging through dusty shelves, shops, and websites for rare/interesting pieces of both kinds.

Having hosted STEAM’s very own , we thought it only right to return the favour. Set your alarms for a warm-up show with plenty of funk, soul and a whole heap of styles from all around the world.
